Do children in the 10-15 age group particularly like ballads? I'd assume pop would be more popular with children of that age, perhaps with rap at the upper age of that demographic. I'm not sure the EBU will be able to aim at teenage viewers if the contest becomes too ballad driven, but that might just be me!

The last two winners are ballads so it's a strategy that's working

The song from Ukraine is at least ok imo. But I like Sweden´s entry more.

So tommorow we'll know full list of participants? I hope that at least 1 or 2 more countries will confirm.

I was thinking something similar... Ukraine's song is ok, nothing special, a bit bland.
But I like Sweden's song, its a lot better than Ukraine

I don't think the Ukrainian girls sound all that great actually. Especially in English. I don't like either songs though. Sweden's sounds like a right mess.

The JESC facebook page has announced they are extending the deadline to participate to September, so we won't get a final list of participants till then.

They say: "It's summer and August is by far the most popular month to take a nice relaxing holiday in Europe.....which is why several countries have asked us to extend the deadline for them to finalise their JESC entries. This means that all of the important staff, decision-makers and talent are back and ready to get organised. Due to the huge interest this year, we want to make sure that everyone gets the opportunity to be part of JESC, so an announcement on the participants will occur in September."

The initial date was September anyway when I spoke to them a while back
