Please keep discussion in this thread specific to Eden Golan and her song, Israel's (potential) participation in Eurovision 2024 and discussions or remarks from other countries and organisations about Israel's participation.

Any further discussion of a political or humanitarian nature not relating to specifically Israel in Eurovision 2024 needs to go into the politics sub-forum. Thank you!

Will we see another drugged ESC edition? Overwhelming political victory and fight for second place for co-hosting?
Eurovision would not come back from a 2024 Israeli win, there isn't the solidarity that there was for Ukraine in 2022 so I don't see the point in worrying about a theoretical Israeli win although It would be terrible for the contest

I don't believe in an Israeli victory at all. But non-victory would give strength to Hamas. The European people, deep down, would appear to be pro-Palestinian, partially in agreement with the recognition of Israeli abuses and consequently anti-Semitic (in contrast to the governments of our states which offer full support to Israel and have allowed for decades a hunting scenario to anti-Semitic witches - weak European fragmented states that do not represent their people as they should). The issue here is much more delicate than Ukraine 2022. However, if Ukraine won 2 times due to politics (when politics is banned by ESC regulation) the Israeli non-victory is unfair. If politics is to win, it must always win. No distinction can be made between massacre and massacre. Not letting Israel win is also unfair, I take 2022 as an example, for the UK and Spain who were robbed of a chance of victory. But maybe I'm the one asking myself too many questions. Pass me my beer. Better that I follow the show while having fun.

I really wouldn't be surprised by an Israeli victory, given the voting in 2022 was politically motivated (for all the right reasons for a change!) and the fact that there is significant support for Israel across Europe, whether you like that fact or not. It's also a vote to win, not to come last.

I think if that does happen though there will be serious questions raised.

Why the fuck is Israel competing this year? This is gonna cause all kinds of fuckery, drama, and tomfoolery this year.

Written by a person that is not supportive of any national, religious, or political agenda, only supportive of innocent people caught up in war and bombs, by the way.

BTW, I updated the calendar on this forum today but I can't find any Israel dates for the final?
Due to the limited coverage on and maybe because of what's going on, it feels like rounds get announced on the same day/without notice... does anyone have some schedule or dates I could include?

According to Eurovisionfun, the entry will be chosen internally.

So basically they are going back to their 2015-2019 selection route. I guess it's for the best.

How will the safety of the Israeli delegation be guaranteed at Eurovision and indeed any other global event under the current circumstances? There will be next to no media appearances I imagine, no pre-parties, perhaps no turquoise carpet appearance… which leads me to think, is there much point?

The security bill in Malmö will be sky high and I’d like to think no one else other than Israel would be footing the bill, but we all know the cash cows that are the Big 5 will be…

Song submissions until February 11th. I'm guessing they already have something picked out but are leaving a short window to receive songs just in case they get something better.

I hope they just go with something in full Hebrew (a traditional ballad preferably) and not the usual crowd-pleaser. I mean no matter what they are going to release, they are going to get backlash for you-know-what, so may well take this opportunity to do something totally different and risky.

The EBU officially confirmed to Aftonbladet (Sweden) once again that Israel can normally take part in Eurovision since "broadcasters and not governments" participate and they also highlighted the "apolitical" nature of the event.

This is laughable I wonder what the EBU thought the reason Armenia withdrew in 2021 was

Something should be done to make EBU's rules more clear.

Such as: A country can't participate if 1.) the majority of the European states are imposing sanctions on the country, or 2.) the country's government has implemented laws that are incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Or something like that. I'm just not a fan of participation being decided by the "gut feeling" of individual TV stations or artists.

It has been discussed in here before - the difference can be spotted clearly (but it got deleted for being too political).

To cut a long story short (the Russian and Belarusian broadcasters broke EBU rules, e.g. interviews of beaten-up ppl, no freedom of speech; the Russian broadcasters officially withdrew from the EBU).
Broadcasters from :ua: and :ch: have allowed (soldier) uniforms in national finals before and the EBU allowed Russia to come up with a f'cking military choir fully dressed in army uniforms to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009.
