Please keep discussion in this thread specific to Eden Golan and her song, Israel's (potential) participation in Eurovision 2024 and discussions or remarks from other countries and organisations about Israel's participation.

Any further discussion of a political or humanitarian nature not relating to specifically Israel in Eurovision 2024 needs to go into the politics sub-forum. Thank you!

The shitstorm is more than real. 4 000 comments on Instagram in 30 minutes.
There are a lot of Israeli people who support her tho, kudos to them.

They can’t guarantee safety In Malmö… surely? The backlash is insane. These Israeli fans won’t all be there to support her and to counteract the condemnation…

The Israeli delegation had to have security in malmo eleven years ago so God knows what they'll have to do in May as malmo has changed since then

So far, it's more about trolls, ppl who don't follow Eurovision (they keep on asking why "Israel is in Europe when it's Asia) and some naive gay fans who claim that "they don't care about Israel in Eurovision and want them to be banned" - booing will definitely be happening in the arena but we also survived the booing of Russian artists who turned out to be fascist... Eden - apparently - has condemned the ruZZian war in Ukraine.

If ppl hate on her for just being Israeli/Jewish (without knowing her stance on the conflict), I think that's even more worrying than "safety issues in Malmö". It's giving real 1930's vibes.

I think that :il: will pull off an :au: 2021 and take part with a "live-on-tape" performance.

Poor Eden but apparently that's the status quo right now because people can't differentiate anymore.

After the judges and the audience at home voted, Eden was the winner with the majority of the votes. Or Cohen finished second, Mika Moshe came in third, and earlier in the evening, Dor Shimon finished in fourth place.

On winning, Eden said: 'This year, more than ever, I am excited to represent my country on the biggest stage in Europe. I promise to do my best and bring the 2025 Eurovision contest to Israel.'

Eden Golan is 20 years old and comes from Tel Aviv. She started performing on stage from childhood as an artistic dancer, but at the age of 9 she discovered that she could also sing and the rest is history.

The singer draws her musical inspiration from diverse styles, and her real dream is to sing with Beyoncé, but first she's off to Malmö.

The song that Eden will take to Malmö will be revealed in the coming weeks.

I don't have anything against her but girl should be prepared to a Polina Gagarina kind of reaction from audience

She's spent most of her life in Russia as if this couldn't get more heated
She also performed in occupied Crimea, on a fest organized by Russian state broadcaster when she was 13. She wasn't even an adult so I blame her parents. But selecting someone with such upbringing was a choice. If she's going to be all proud about her work with Russian media, even if she delivers the best song in the world, many people here (including me) won't vote for her xshrug

It’s like they want to make things worse for themselves by selecting someone who not only lives in Russia but has performed on state TV and as mentioned, in occupied Crimea. And that’s all without me even mentioning Palestine and any alleged genocides and/or war crimes (which I recognise are yet to be proven in a court of law). But this is turning uglier by the hour and tbh I’m not here for it.

I will just wait for her song like any other artist. She's for sure not responsible for what her government does and the killing of innocents. She's certainly proud to be Israeli and want to represent Israel as a country and culture only, but not a country + his corrupted/evil government. The nature of the song will say a lot about that but at the moment, she has the benefit of the doubt.
But right now I personnally refuse to participate to this savage cyber-bashing. Eurovision must remain a music event only.

Unlike Polina Gagarina, Sergey Lazarev or Eva Rivas, she was 13 years old and hasn't openly supported Putin and his imperial war.
And yet her "Ukrainian" mother took her to pro-putin fest in occupied Crimea, if she still has it in her bio then it's not ok. I will wait and observe her actions.

On escunited.com's FB's post, a Ukrainian follower already called her a "Russian wh*re".
I personally think it's better for her to not hide the fact Rhayader she had participated in such Festival.
Impinge her deleting traces of it now and some ESC "fans" finding out about it and calling her out or making others believe she'd hide it because she secretly wants Crimea and other parts to be Russian?

It's better this way. It was part od her past when she was a kid and it's part of her path to become a professional single (even though it's a stain in her bio).

But she's not trying to hand in forged documents or neglecting anything .... I think telling the truth is much wiser this time...especially since she'll get so much hate for simply taking part in May anyway.

But then it has come to light and it's already a mess, so it's not a good situation in any case.
I've just found out that her "Ukrainian" mother made her a band member with 2 other girls, a daughter of super ukrophobic singer and a daughter of a businessman who owns Russian army's football club. One hell of environment I must say. I'm happy that she left them when she became 16 (y) But I'll be naturally suspicious xexcuseme
ps. I will gag  if she's going to co-work with Ukrainian team like Noa, but imo it will be all-Israeli team this time.

I couldn't care less about her stance on the shitstorms going on. I just hope she's mentally strong and that Israel or any other country doesn't withdraw. And of course I'll rank her based on personal taste only.

The cyberbulling against Eden is horrible, and I hope she has a good support System.

I'll be honest: I don't think selecting Eden now was smart. Israel is rightfully under critic for their actions in Gaza (I don't want to get too political, the Israeli-Palestinensa conflict is old, bloody & complex, but IMO the Israeli governement definitely deserves critic; albeit it's not as clear cut as Russia invading Ukraine). So it was already clear that their participation would cause conflict. The contest is held in Sweden, a not so Israeli friendly country anyway. And then they go and select a singer with ties to Russia. I don't mean to say the hate against Eden is fair or right, it is 200% not, but it was hella predicteable. And IMO, some times you have to accept some "limitations" so you don't give further ground for escalation. And this is not it. I can get the "now more then ever" mindset about wanting to participate, but man just go with a different singer. This feels very unneccessary. I'd be happy at this point if name calling was the worst of what might happen to her, but sadly I think there is a real chance that it won't :(
