......No matter how much you hate it, they have increased interest of Eurovision in Ireland massively....
They're a talking point alright - but in much the same way as Dustin The Turkey : novelty acts that can't sing,so put them in a song contest for car crash tv. If Dustin or Jedward could sing, there wouldn't be half as much fuss made about them,by the press. Jedward might be 'fun',and have 'energy',but if they looked like Louis Walsh ,their teen/tween fans wouldn't support them at all.Their support seems to be based on finding them ''well fit''.
I find the chart listings interesting, but they're no guide to how a song will do in the contest.
There were high hopes for Sinead Mulvey, her sound being compared to Avril Lavigne & P!nk,with everyone saying that she was ''fresh'' and had the most ''modern'' song in the Irish selection (much like Team Jedward keep saying about the twins),yet the voters of Europe didn't go for it.
Still, well done to Jedward on getting to #2.It can't be too hard to have a hit in Ireland - Dustin the turkey has had seven top ten hits, including five number one singles !
Donna & Joe ('Love?') was the last Irish entry to peak at #2 on the singles chart - that didn't manage to translate into a decent position at Eurovision, stranded at the semi.
Brian Kennedy ('Every Song Is A Cry For Love') reached #4 on the chart, but made the final,Dustin The Turkey (Irelande Douze Points) reached #5,and Sinead Mulvey/Black Daisy (Etcetera) got to #6,Niamh Kavanagh ('It's For You') got to #8.
At least they all went top 10 in the chart. All those top ten chart acts ,yet there was only one finalist at the ESC,with a top ten finish (just): Brian Kennedy (and I think it was voice that got him there, rather than the song) !
