It's time for Iceland to WIN, it's the only scandinavian country that remains without a single victory, if Finland could win, it hasn't to be a big deal for Iceland to win Eurovision.
The question for me is if Iceland is ready for organize such a big contest like Eurovision ( for me is already the winner ), and has quite a big place for making a show for a live audience of around 10.000 people.I know the existence of Harpa Concert Hall, but the biggest hall has a capacity of around 2.000-3.000 people, so I don't know if a proper bigger place exists in Iceland, because is the time to celebrate Eurovision in Reykjavik next year, is the perfect excuse for the whole world to visit the island and increase the profile of the country as a "must see" turistic destination.Go Iceland !!!! 12 points !!!!
It would be awesome if Iceland won - if only given how crazy they are for Eurovision as a nation!
The major issue would be finding a venue big enough… and getting tickets as a fan would be really tough! …Harpa is a great venue but too small - it’s biggest seated capacity is only 1800!
The biggest indoor venues in Iceland - both in Reykjavík - are Laugardalshöll with a capacity of about 11,000 and Egilshöll which can fit up to 18,000 (but this appears to be standing only and would be quite a bit less seated).
The national sports stadium Laugardalsvöllur - also in Reykjavík - seats 9,800 and could easily be extended - but this is because it is open-air… the only solution would be some sort of temporary cover… you couldn’t rely on good weather in Iceland!
Other options would be for RÚV to host or co-host somewhere else… or get really creative and use multiple venues like with the annual Iceland Airwaves festival… half the acts in Laugardalsvöllur, half in Egilshöll… alternative between the two and then quickly bus all the performers to the same green room? …but I doubt something that ambitious would happen based on the complicated logistics!
