I think the issue is just that, when people find themselves feeling lukewarm towards a popular entry, it's easy for them to rationalise it away with 'this is only popular because someone else did it beforehand, and I just don't like it because I've realised that'. Last year alone, we heard about Mans 'plagiarising' the song from David Guetta and the backdrop from a YouTube video, Loic's 'copy' of Lorde's Royals, Italy just being 'a cheap copy of Il Divo', Russia reusing their song from the last few years, and so on and so forth. Now, some of these claims do have merit to an extent, but all the acts were both competent and recognisable in doing their own thing, and it feels like people just kept making exaggerated comparisons to justify their lack of interest in the song. If Iceland gets to be one of the big, hyped entries for the year, I can imagine we'll be seeing the same complaints rehashed this time around as well.
I'm not saying that all accusations about songs being rip-offs are invalid - personally, I still think the chorus in Germany's 2013 entry was too similar to Euphoria to be a coincidence - but for the most part, it just feels like people enjoy drumming up drama around acts they don't like.
