Why? Why? And Greta said they chose the one that fit the song not the one that will get them more votes.

Me too, when she said that, I thought it was a hint that she chose the Icelandic version. :(

Oh, I knew she wanted English all the way. I'm so disappointed. She clearly doesn't care about "what's the best for the song" and obviously not public opinion.

So, congratulations Iceland for ruin the song and officially being the biggest let-down this year, hope you're happy now and that English will bring you the points you so desperately crave, because the song sure doesn't benefit from it. Hope it's all worth it in the end, sadly one could wish you cared about the music and public opinion aswell.

On to the next thread, this is idiotic. First ever ethnic Icelandic entry and this is how you treat it? It's not some freaking ethno-pop.

Whatever you Eurovisionfans that can stand a country that wants to win because they change the language of the songs says, I HEREBY DECLARE ICELAND AS ONE OF THE FAVES TO WIN EUROVISION SONG CONTEST!

The english version is really cool and really brings meaning, understanding and a beautiful feeling. I am sure that this will get a lot of votes if this works well on stage on Baku. Great job Iceland, you are among my top faves finally! ;)

Well, no surprise a Swede is applauding deleting trace of your nation in the song.

Sorry you can't appreciate beauty in something other than English.

And now I even don't care for the beautiful video :(
It's not that I didn't expect it to be English but I got some hopes because of what she said. Now I feel cheated x2: first for the change itself, second for false hopes.

Yeah, I feel cheated!!

I want "Hugarro" for Iceland!!! I soo rooted for this entry because of the overall Icelandic touch, but now I feel they chose the wrong song.

I would've prefered a 50/50 English/Icelandic solution, but I must say: this is not bad at all. Probably one of the least invasive changes I've heard so far.

It's 'only' a loss of originality of language, that's 'all'. But the musicality has been maintained and that is very important.

I've seen worse englifications, take for example our (Dutch) entry of last year: Never alone which lost many of the good stuff that Je vecht nooit alleen had; it fell completely flat with the English lyrics (beside the additional instruments/arrangements)

It's the first ever Icelandic entry with ethnic motives, the first of its kind in this contest, obviously it's not just "loss of original language", it's a loss of a whole concept.

Has it been confirmed they will sing English version in Baku? If so, I'm not sure the song suffers that much. It just sounds very different having got used to Icelandic version. Pretty sure they can create the same drama on stage. Would not give up hope on this song. People on this forum are coming from angle of having heard the song many times in Icelandic and loving it for that. For the ESC audience, they will have a fresher take on it, so the different language may not be so significant, and the song will still retain its quality.

This is a lost opportunity, I feel cheated and let-down.

I want that damn boyband or the rocker for Iceland, couldn't care less about this song any longer as it's not the song I rooted for.

A-Lister, if you remember, we have had this discussion in a number of country threads, so what you say is a huge lie.
I don't say that english always is the best, for example this year, I think that Finland, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Estonia, Portugal and so on, should stay in their own language. It all depends on the song. I didn't like the icelandic version that much, mainly cause it didn't catch me at all. Now this english version, with some new arrengements, really worked for me and that is what I think Europe will like. Icelandic is a beautiful language and I hope we get to hear it in ESC some time, but this song needs english, cause face it, IT IS A COMPETETION, and it is the juries and people at home that will vote.

The english is at least perfectly done and fits well. It has not turned out bad at all. I understand why you are not happy though A-lister. I prefer it when countries stick to their own languages. They should just use english for promotional purposes.

If we won't get Icelandic this year with this type of entry we will never get.

And I congrats them for fooling the public, since they only released the new version of it in English and can claim that "oh look... it's better in English!"... compared to what? The old version in Icelandic? Yeah that's fair...

It's a competition alright, but not just that.

Yeah, but the difference is it's not some ethnic entry and that'd be OK. This however, waste of time and space to even release such an entry just to translate it.

Seriously, EBU needs to step in soon!

If an entry is chosen in a particular language, it shouldn't be allowed to change the language for ESC! People vote for an entry for different reasons, language is one of those.
