Re: ICELAND 2012 - Gréta Salóme & Jónsi - Mundu eftir mér

So Greta (and Jonsí)... it's up to you now! Icelandic or sell-out?

Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia all thought about going with English versions of their songs to ESC, but they listened to fan reactions and stayed true to their chosen songs and decided to stick with native languages afterall.

Will you follow in their foot-steps? You certainly have one of those entries that was meant to stay in original language and you WILL stand out considering the majority of entries this year will be in English anyways and there is no language even close to Icelandic in this. You have so little pride in your own language?

So how's it gonna be? Will you atleast give fans a fair choice?

It would be the first entry in Icelandic since 1997! And considering this is the first Icelandic song with an ethnic touch, that would be the only right thing to do. Coincidence alot of people liking your song? No thought about that the whole structure (including language) has something to do with the popularity? Translating this song and it WILL loose its atmosphere. It may still be good, but it certainly won't be the same.

C'mon, do the honest and right choice for your entry! Stop calculating so much about its chances and your ideas about international careers. If the entry is already good, why risk it? If you're doing a good job, it won't matter if you sing it in Icelandic or not.

Bottom-line = Keep it in Icelandic!

Re: ICELAND 2012 - Gréta Salóme & Jónsi - Mundu eftir mér

Greta posted posted on her facebook

the video and final version of the Icelandic ESC song will be premiered on Monday!!! First at Vodafone center in Skútuvogur at 12:00 and then a TV premiere at RÚV at 19:35 pm

So we still don't know about the language. All we know is that they will only use English lyrics if they truly feel they're better than the Icelandic ones.

The argument could be pointless, the biggest concern is over the remix. ESC remixes rarely produce better outcomes than the original. If ever a song needed to be completely left alone, it is this one. It stays top of my list for now, but I have concerns as to where it will be after Monday night.

Probably because it's going to end up in English :( Otherwise they would have said something by now, but she's probably aware of the general fan-view on the subject and don't want to be confronted before the deadline.

Oh well... it's a major pity, out of all entries, this was the one I really hoped the most would stay in original language :(

interesting article on escnorge

http://escnorge.net/index.php/wivs-...ideo-to-premier-on-ruv-and-escnorge-on-monday

They seem to have information on the video itself. ;) Also mentioned that there seems to be a video with both icelandic and english version of the song and that it still hasn't been decided which one will be performed in Baku. So if that is true, that could be the reason Greta hasn't answered her fans yet, the group probably haven't decided yet.:)

Oh ok, well one step in the right direction then (I was afraid they already decided for English and didn't even bother in revamping or making a video for the Icelandic version).

Hopefully they'll follow the foot-steps of the rest who decided between original language and English then and just use the English one for promo, but the Icelandic one for ESC.

I guess there's a lil' hope afterall ;)

Hmm too bad they didn't do Zejko... release the video's and wait for reactions and decide ;)
Now they don't have time for this.
Good thing that Islandic is still in the game! :D

Yeah, that'd be the fairest thing to do to the fans and supporters of this entry.

But atleast it seems there's a little chance for Icelandic still!!

Not a bad song, but I'm still reserved on my opinion until the final version comes out on Monday.

Okay, while we're all waiting here for (I HOPE!!!) "Mundu eftir mér", why not listen to Jónsi back in 2004? ;)
I'm a little surprised it wasn't posted here before :)
While the live version is not... impressive, I found myself loving the studio one of this ballad.

I have to say I never really liked "Heaven", it's ok but a little cheesy and boring though.

He should have won Icelandic selection in 2007 though with this amazing song however (could only find LQ of the studio version on YT :():

I seriously can't wait till tomorrow!!! Will they listen to the fans and public demand and stay true to this entry? (= keep it in Icelandic) or will they not? (= send an English version to ESC).

I'm really afraid, I have a bad feeling about this one. I just hope they came to their senses and go with Icelandic version.

Re: ICELAND 2012 - Gréta Salóme & Jónsi - Mundu eftir mér

Hmmm... she's very cryptic in this video whether it'll be in Icelandic or English. I have to say though, my apologize to Greta, she did come across as kinda arrogant in some of the quotes posted on here, but seeing her talk on video I take some of what I said all back. She seems like a sweet person. xkiss

However I still hope she decided for Icelandic nevertheless, and I honestly truly don't think English could benefit the song, I just can't see it and when she says that, I don't mean she lies, but it's probably more like wishful thinking on her behalf. I think maybe she hears it differently because she's a native speaker, but she has to see it from a perspective of non- Icelandic speakers (the voters) that will appreciate the mystics and beauty of this language (that sounds like nothing else in this contest) that fits the song so well... so really Greta... if you considered English, re-consider once more thank you!

However, looking at her answer about the language in this video, I'm afraid it will in fact be English :(

For some reason I think it will be English too. It's written English all over her face. (would be cool if I'm wrong  )
But I'm really looking forward to see the video with amazing places around Iceland.

Yeah it does, doesn't it? :(

Real pity I think. They even talk about it being "soo Icelandic" and then to go and do it in English? Seriously I'd feel tricked.
