She probably doesn't even give us a honest choice, because I feel they only revamped it for an English version, but left the Icelandic one as it was, only to present it like "Oh look here, it does sound so much better in English". But that's just because they made the music "better" only for the English version. We'll see if that's the case, but wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.
And I highly doubt it'll end up better in English since part of what makes this song special in the first place it's in fact ICELANDIC! You don't just change a language when changing a song's language, you change the whole song aswell. Even if the melody is the same, it'll not be the same song.
It's her choice, and obviously she's not obliged to anything, but then again if she wants fans or not that's up to her.
I don't think she genuinely thinks the song will benefit of English in musical terms (because it won't), she probably thinks about the potential success in ESC and the desperate idea people have that English collects more votes. Many artists have this deluded idea that ESC will make them cross-over to the European/International market and believe that singing in English will help them accomplish this easier, while in fact almost no one becomes an international name after entering ESC, so why not just stay true to your song and respect the opinion of the majority of the song's fans?
This song is not made for English period. I now feel sorry I didn't support the boyband or "Hugarro" instead, because as a fan of this song I feel fooled, those would have at least made some sense in English.
