It is indeed "old fashioned style", but in a good way. Brings back memories of Eurovision from the 1990's! Exactly the opposite of the Maltese song!

If that's the case they're really stupid and deserve non-qualification imo. I don't think destroying a whole concept should be praised. English in this song makes no sense to me, it's not your random pop entry.
I wrote about this in the "future ESC" section, I think there is big need for new rules. If an entry is chosen in a particular language I think it has to stay in that language, I don't think translations should be allowed any longer.

I was told there had been a rule in the contest before - each song had had to be sung in the official language of the country. (have never checked if it was true, though)
So, anyway, I give plus for the songs that are sung in the official country's language.
Icelandic is quite cool language, I personally wouldn't like seeing it sung in English.

Between 1956-1965 there was actually no language restriction, however the vast majority of entries were still presented in native languages back then and a restriction was put as the result of one entry (Swedish of course haha) that was sung in English instead.
Between 1966-1972 there was a language restriction, which was lifted again 1973 (ABBA won in 1974 with English for instance). In 1977 the restriction was back and wasn't lifted until 1999 again and there has yet to be some restrictions put back in force since then.
I am divided, I would love for the "full" restriction to comeback, but I'm trying to be pragmatic. However I do think that if an entry has been chosen in a particular language it should not be allowed to change the language for ESC and I also think juries should have in their guidelines to encourage the use of native languages.
There are ways to make room for more use of native languages without forcing it, however I have a feeling EBU and the current people in force wants the complete opposite, they are universalists and have an anti-national agenda (basically they are the entertainment arm of the EU more or less).

I think that countries should be allowed to use English in ESC if they want to, but if they originally plump for their own native language then it's kinda lame to change to English. So basically I agree that there should be a restriction on that basis, but I'm up for free choice of language.

So basically you do agree with my point then? I am not pro a full restriction, however I believe that if a song has been chosen in a particular language it shouldn't be allowed to be translated to another for use in Eurovision.

Yup, especially since I believe all Icelandic NF participants are obliged to sing in Icelandic during the show, right? In which case it seems strange that RÚV would allow them to change it into English for Eurovision. There's not really much point imposing such a restriction in your own national final if you're gonna lift it for the main contest :?
Albania's also a big culprit when it comes to this sort of thing...
Anyway, I'm still not entirely sold on Mundu eftir mér as it's not really my taste, but I can objectively appreciate the fact it's in Icelandic which adds an extra dimension to it. If they changed it to plain ol' English it'd lose that :/

To use language restriction in your own selection, but then translate it to ESC anyways, it makes no sense imo. If a country has chosen an entry in their own (or whatever language) with or without a national language restriction, they should simply stick to that choice!

^ A-lister I love that rule! I wish we could have it someday! I always said that if you choose a song in your language then keep it that way but I never thought that could be set as a rule? How do we send suggestions like this to EBU?

I mean it's as we say in Swedish "Köpa grisen i säcken", if you vote for one entry you vote for everything that comes with that entry (including the language of it), it's unfair to all the voters to translate it and partly make a new song out of that. For instance I just LOVE "Det gör ont" and I think it's one of our best entries ever, but I can't stand the English version though and I feel cheated of my vote and support basically because what we send to ESC was actually something else.
