Re: ICELAND 2012 - Gréta Salóme & Jónsi - Mundu eftir mér

^Agree! I personally prefer it to stay in Icelandic 100%. But Europe's audience prefers songs in English (just have a look at the winners in the past years, only Molitva was not in English, and most of the top10 songs were in English too). I don't know if this song would sound good in English, though! In Icelandic it stands out a lot! Very special song!

Europe does not prefer songs in English only, but when they almost only have English to chose from then logically that will be result, but I don't think it proves anything really. Also we can't just look at the winners for voting clues, it's not fair and it doesn't make sense. Let's look at overall voting patterns.

Also, this song has ethnic motives, and it's not an uptempo song, and slower songs with ethnic elements almost NEVER benefits by English. Just imagine Molitva and others in English, pure awfulness I'd say!

Sometimes English translations can make sense, but very seldom in cases like these.

Nobody's heard this in English, nobody knows how it will sound in English. Personally I think English would also suit it very well, but I say keep as it is because it sounding fine yesterday night.

It's not a song meant for English. As an English speaker, aren't you interested at all in hearing the other national languages? I just wonder. The native languages are such a big part of what makes us unique.

I am, which is why I said keep it as it is because it sounded just fine. But I also dont like when English is made out to be disgusting like it'll dirty the song or something, which some of the comments I've read insinuate (not just here, but in other places too). It's my language and just because it's the 'universal' language doesnt mean I dont care about it and Im not proud of it.
Traditional Celtic music (not too different from this sound) in these islands is often sung in English and it sounds perfectly good.

I don't think people mean English is "disgusting" or anything (atleast that's not my point).

I personally think that there's a time and place for everything though, and in this very contest I prefer for songs to actually represent the countries (which includes the languages). I don't think that means another language is "better than the other" or anything like that, I like to see it as being more open to diversity if anything.

Most of the music I listen to normally are in English and my favorite acts are more or less all English speaking ones, but Eurovision is something else.

It could be interpreted the other way aswell. Alot of people want only English, and that can be seen as thinking English somehow is more worthy than all the local languages just because it happens to be more universal. I don't think however that's your point, but it can come across both ways.

Wow, I heard 3 songs from the NF and liked all of them. This is a very powerful and mystical piece, quite enjoy it. Would be nice if we FINALLY hear Icelandic in ESC again (hasn't happened since 1997 :(). 10 points

The Icelandic language is made for songs like this. Everything sounds epic when sung in Icelandic and this is a pure viking song. When sung in English, it will lose a lot of that power.

For me this trumps the previous entries (even Yohanna's song). I can only imagine how epic the stage performance will be like in Baku (well because the staging in the NF isn't really epic, very simple but good). I think this song has a potential to have a very "out there" and staging; dramatic lighting alone could do wonders to the performance of this song

I mentioned before that this wasn't my favorite in the NF but I am more than happy with it going to Baku :D It's a great song, and each time I listen to it it grows on me more and more. Currently my third favorite so far.

I printed and framed this comment cause I don't think we'll ever hear that again from you ;)

Preferring songs in English in MF and liking the juries in Iceland...has he been brainwashed?

Great to see the jury saving such a great song. Even if my favourite song from the NF was Regina Osk, I'm sure that Greta and Jonsi will put on the most spectacular show in Baku. And for a change, I'd actually prefer the entry to remain in it's native language for Eurovision. :)

I agree, and I hope they don't change the language. It would totally kill the spirit of the entry.
