Re: Iceland 2011 - Sjonni Brink's friends - Aftur heim

Well, neither should Brink, since his entries the year before were in English as well and there is little doubt that he would have performed Aftur Heim in English had he won in happier circumstances. It probably will be Back Home in DDorf, anyway.

I do hope you realised when you were calling Johanna an "anglophone bitch" that you, yourself were posting in English on an "anglophone" forum. Perhaps, this forum is not for you, either. We would not want you to lose your identity.

Unfortunately, for us to understand each other, we have to use this language. I'd so prefer French to it but can't change the world on my won...

She didn't win but if you can listen to the english version of Yohanna's song HERE
The English version is great (way better than "Is it true"). I think she probably didn't win, because maybe the Icelandic version didn't flow (lyric-wise) to the Icelanders?? And she wasn't even second place.

Why were they even allowed to compete? After all, they were not the original performer. Usually, when a performer cannot perform their entry, be it for whatever reason, that entry is disqualified. RUV lost a lot of credibility there.

Not true. Eurovision SONG contest. Not SINGER. Plenty of precendents - including from your country. Remember Siw Malmquist's fit of the giggles?

By the way, it's Ukraine, not the Ukraine any more than it is the Sweden or the Iceland and Ruslana sang her winning entry partly in Ukrainian, which seems to have escaped you.

It will almost certainly be in English if this report in the Icelandic press after the final is anything to go by

The key line is the underlined link that says "The English lyrics have already been completed". I doubt that anyone would mention this if the intention was not to perform it in English in Germany. It was already known that Sjonni intended to sing it in English if he won.

Good song, well performed. I'm noticing a trend away from over-produced, studio pop. There seem to be more acoustic songs this year. Or perhaps it's my imagination. I really like this one and would hope they'd keep it in Icelandic which is such a beautiful language.

I didn't particularly care for the studio version I heard before the final, but having just watched the final version, I really like it. Yes, it's quite old fashioned, but I find it quite uplifting and cheerful.

EDIT: Also, I like the presentation on stage. Having them all close together, gives it a communal, celebratory feel.

The Icelandic song will be performed in its original version with English lyrics. The title will be "Coming home".
