The new broadcaster will be on air until end of August.

That's great!
Plenty of time to organize next year's entry.
Now let's just hope that the new executives will be Eurovision-friendly. xcrossed

The name of it will be NERIT (new greek radio internet & television).

But what will happen with the name when this new broadcaster become old :D
ERT was good enough and I can't find actually the reason for all this. They could do reforms in the old broadcaster. For example BNT before some years was with 4 500 people, now they have around 1 200 and every year they cut down the staff but without losing so many people at once. I doubt that the Greek government will spare a lot of money with this move.

Nothing will happen. ERT had 5 channels. ET1 (Greek television 1), NET (this used to be ET2 but then it became NET, it's been like this for TOO MANY years and it means "new greek tv"), ET3, ERT HD and ERT World. So it won't change when it gets old.

Mad tv is not a member of ebu,
and besides of this,
some months ago the president of Mad tv went to prison.

Prison? What did he do?

But surely they must have some vice-president no?

Well, MAD TV should apply for EBU membership then :)

If nothing changes, then what's the point?

Maybe they should make just one channel out of all those?

I said the name didn't change and NERIT's name won't change because of the "new" in it.

The plan is to make one or two channels. ;)

Aha, I understand...

I thought you meant that nothing will actually change, and they'd simply re-start the same amount of channels again... which would have been sorta pointless then imo

No no I was talking about the channel's name. :) They didn't remove the "new" after so many years.

MAD TV is not eligible for EBU membership as only public broadcasters could be members.

^ So is Sweden's TV4 a public broadcaster? Coz TV4 is an EBU member.

EBU President Jean-Paul Philippot today condemned the Greek government’s overnight shutdown of its national broadcaster ERT as an act of violence and “the worst kind of censorship”.

In a statement to Belgian TV station RTBF, Mr Philippot said the voice of democracy was being brutally silenced in Greece “because the Greek government has sent in the police to cut off a broadcaster and stop journalists from doing their job”.

A private owned channel could be also public broadcaster but this broadcaster should again gain some money from the public budget and in return of those money to have some obligations to broadcast particular type of programs. But not all private channel have the right to be EBU members - only those, who have public service obligations as well.

Premier Samaras looks forced to move back about his plans to shut-down EPT, right now.

I'm so happy about that. It could be a big victory against IMF, that recently admitted its mistakes about Greek crisis. ***** off b*tch Lagarde.

Nope, it´s a commercial channel, they joined EBU because of JESC first and then EDC, they jumped of JESC when EDC was brought up, when EDC was dead, they returned one year to JESC but they didn´t even broadcast the show live, instead they showed it the following morning at 6 AM, SVT bourght back the rights the year after
