Bibiane has the only okay song. I am really really furious - why on earth are they doing IWZE when all we get are the same radio-friendly songs where we are safe at the bottom again??? We could have spared that. It's kindergarden. Really. My "Wildcard Ranking" [snippets]:
A huge pile of radio-friendly "mehs" and a few Italian screams.
Bibiane Z
Anne Im
Luca M. Wefes
Floryan

It's absolutely tragic - especially since NDR didn't let artists like Versengold compete (#1 album!).
At first, I was quite surprised since none of these songs were or rejects but we basically just got "The Voice season 11" style songs - very formulaic and lazily-written. "Massenware" if you ask me.
Bibiane Z is on par with most of our national final songs, though - but nothing to write home about.
If NDR wanted to give those artists a platform, it is okay - but the most interesting among them didn't make it to the final: Paul, Apollson or Beranger. They could have submitted something different, well - different than what NDR wanted apparently. It's absolutely tragic - especially since NDR didn't let artists like Versengold compete (#1 album!).

Well, LoTL were also on #1, didn´t help them either in the end.
popularity =/= success at Eurovision
but at least, you create some buzz in Germany.
Personally, I prefer well-established acts and/or artists with authentic material instead of radio-friendly, formulaic tracks.
IF one of the most successful artists want to compete in your NF, you just give people the chance to vote for them - and don't come up with a wildcard round in which all four songs are bottom 5 material.
The artist(s) at Eurovision still "represent" us.

Besides, Lord Of The Lost got the HIGHEST televoting points for Germany since 2018. Just saying
Well, did LoTL really create buzz outside of the bubble?? I´m not sure about that.

Yes, they did - I have posted several articles from alternative, metal, rock magazines, news outlets in last year's thread (tons of magazines, forums, web sites which usually don't cover and report on Eurovision at all).
Even the largest festivals in Germany like Wacken and Mera Luna posted about them and the national final.
Their album even re-entered the album charts at #2 after their Eurovision performance + re-release.
Lord of the Lost even met King Charles - This was not a Jendrik, Sister, Jamie-Lee scenario.
It was nice for a change to see our entry getting more recognition outside the ESC bubble and NDR/ARD.
You're one of usThey very much did in the scene they're from. As a rock/metal/gothic person myself, there was actual talk about ESC/our NF that I normally never see. (It's also why I knew they'd kill the televote lol).
If you really want to comapare "buzz" with the the two Lena years, we will be doomed.
We will probably not get something like this for another decade or two.
Fantastic to hear that! I am older, but grew up with Metal/Rock!They very much did in the scene they're from. As a rock/metal/gothic person myself, there was actual talk about ESC/our NF that I normally never see. (It's also why I knew they'd kill the televote lol).

I think it takes a very rare phenomenon like Lena or an A-lister like Sarah Connor, Helene Fischer to create buzz amongst ordinary people but the amount of support and reports Lord of the Lost and the National Final/Eurovision got from people who never care about it or even watch it was INSANE last year.
I was shocked when Metal Hammer, Sonic Seducer (biggest media outlets of metal/rock) and even the official accounts of Wacken and Mera Luna posted about it.
