Ryk applied in the same year as Electric Callboy in 2022 and was rejected with this song:

Well, it simply wasn't radio-frinedly enough. ;)
Your broadcaster seriously needs a kick up the backside with this whole “it has to be radio friendly” BS approach…

I root for the German Schlager bop tbh, at least it's actually German and represents part of what is popular on the German music scene (regardless if people like the genre or not, that's just factual).

A clichéd Eurovision ballad in English is perhaps the most stereotype of Eurovision one could send. It is so out of touch of any European music scene of 2024 and it's basically only alive in Eurovision as some odd relic of God knows what era of music, 90's?

Praying for Germany to pick the Helene Fischer substitute it's a damn shame that part of Germany's music scene hasn't been represented yet

I ignored he tried Eurovision with this one, but it doesn't surprise me, it sounded like a Eurovision top 5 anyway.
Germany, you waste your potential more than France did before 2016. Seriously.

I mean, in a certain way, it is impressive how 2022 can still continue to look worse 🥴

Anyway, I love how much Ryk loves ESC, and it sounds to me like he has a good plan for the staging. I didn't like his 2018 staging all that much, and it's interesting that he had quite different ideas too. And that he'll be more firm about his Vision this time. "Oh boy" needs it IMO, because it'll 100% live (or not) from the feelings he'll manage to convey.

I'm also excited for Bodine. I don't care much for "Tears like rain", but she seems to be a really good live singer and she's so charismatic and instantly likeable to me (her NDR Interview is pure sunshine). And I'm curious how Galant will stage "Katze". Most people don't seem to like it, but I think it's fun =D

Agree on Ryk. As for Bodine, "Tears like Rain" is my 2nd favorite entry in this section. The song is okay, but I fear that the staging won't do justice. It probably will be something like in the video - will that be enough? I hope Bodine can convey her charisma onstage.

I think I bims knows that. He meant IF it had been a "normal" year, Ryk would have had a chance. ;)

Eh, song is fine, but I just can't bring myself to like his voice and his way of singing. Too much vibrato, too whiny. And I hope he quit that annoying habit of quivering with his chin so much, you don't need to do that to create a vibrato, it's just for show and so off-putting

No idea how to really stage "Tears like rain" either, but I think relying completely on Bodine's charisma and joy on stage would be the best choice. It's worked for others before.

I feel similarily about "Always on the run". Isaak's voice is amazing, the song is fine, but I can't think of anything that could lead to an "elevated on stage" moment like I can with "Oh Boy" or "Katze", "Undream You" or even "Naiv" (tho I'm worried about Marie's vocals, but we'll see). On the other hand, I'm sure "Forever strong" is dead on arrival to me no matter the staging 'xD

Agree with everything you said here. I am also interested to see Katze's staging. I think Marie's live vocals will be very shaky (at least from what I saw from a few live videos). I just hope that the Juries don't pay much attention to Max Mutzke, it would be a waste since the song is just terribly boring.

Time for the German songs:

1. GALANT - Katze
2. Ryk - Oh Boy
3. NinetyNine - Love on a Budget
4. Bondine Monet - Tears Like Rain
5. ISAAK - Always on the Run
6. Max Mutzke - Forever Strong
7. Marie Reim - Naiv
8. Leona - Undream You

A clear step up from previous years, but still not a strong NF enough. I'm obsessed with Katze, I think with a good staging it could be a mysterious and captivating entry, plus it is sung in German. On the other hand, Ryk's voice is stunning and would also be a great choice, but far safer. The rest of them I do not care much about them...

It's in the category of Gjon's Tears and Duncan Lawrence - just a couple of years later and not as melodic. The style of music is a bit too artsy fartsy to me, and if the organizers want to present songs from the genre of pop, then this song might seem a little out of place in the middle of it all. However, if the selection is diverse in terms of genres, I would regard the song as a good choice.

In exactly a week we will get the 9th candidate (plus song) for the NF. Will be between Anne, Luca (Team Conchita), Bibiane or Florian (Team Rea).
