Oh man, I am kind of frustrated right now. We were so close. That was a really decent national final.
One outstanding song and performance, five songs that were at least "ok", and, well...there was Linus Bruhn.
One of the OK songs became the winner in the end, but we all know this could end somewhere between Elaiza and Ann Sophie: Not really hated, but no one really cares enough to vote for it at the ESC.
2018 was soooo good after all those miserable years before, and after hearing "Surprise" I thought: that's it, we have another top 10 candidate.
So disappointing in the end...

well sure, I may have sound harsh in my post. But the biggest difference is (at least for me) that Michael sang about his dead father. He sang about grief and how that feels. I have two brothers and I understand what the girls sing about, but for me losing my own father about 9 years ago is something I will never forget. I think it is a stronger feeling, at least it is for me, than the love for ones siblings (though the loss of a sibling may be as hard as losing a parent). I also think that grief is a feeling that most people go through several times in life and that makes that kinds of songs to better than many other (I also add in Hungarys qualification last year, to this even if it didn't go as well in the final). Also I think Michaels song was delicately made, while this song is for me a little sloppy, but that can of course change in the months to come.

I appreciate your taste, we just don't agree this time.. :)

I've just realized as well that this is at least probably my favourite German entry in many, many years. I think I let Germany slide a little as I always come away with a handful of songs from their NFs each year that I adore. I can't remember the last German entry I loved though.

I'm at least happy that Mauve has finally got another entry she enjoys at this years contest. Her own country too! Even better. I'm jelly:mrgreen:

xyesxyes I never thought that it would be my own Country giving me ESC-vibes that I missed so far. Can't even believe it is on the top of my list now! xheat If Things go Right, Conan and Hatari will also win! And when Conan wins, you will also have your ESC-year! xkiss

I can't really understand what was the appeal fo Sister to the public. It's not really a bad song, but that was true for "Black Smoke", "Ghost" and that song of the blond girl I completely forgot.... like this one. The only thing that I remember was, that I found the staging quite uninspired and boring on the verge of cringe.
The positive surprise of the evening for me was Linus who really sold his song well, that I didn't like in the beginning. But he can connect with the public and it was one of my favorites to win.
"Wear your love" grew on me also and the staging was phenomenal. I would have loved to have it in Tel Aviv.
This is also true for Makedas song. Very emotional!

What is happening this year. So many clear favorites are beaten in the end by songs nobody had on the ticket before.

I'm also disappointed because I had a clear favorite. But the thing is: they won both the international jury vote AND the public vote - doesn't that alone mean that they can't do that bad in Eurovision? I mean, it'd be something else if the had failed miserably in one of the voting but being first in both says something. I doubt this will get anywhere near the left hand side of the scoreboard but predicting nil points or last place is ridiculous.

No, I don't think that's too indicative of how the entry will do. Entries like Germany 2016 and Romania 2018 won their respective televotes, but neither did well in the contest whatsoever (which can be attributed to the country having different taste than internationally.) And, looking at France 2018, they did substantially better with juries in Eurovision proper than they had during Destination Eurovision, so I don't think you can extrapolate how the'd do in ESC based on the results here.

When the eurovision bubble finally gets over the lame basic Wear Your Love and the incredibly pretentious Surprise, then they can finally appreciate this song.
This obviously won't do as well as Schulte, but this song has a lovely melody and the girls are selling this song so well. And it's nowhere near as bland as their 2016, 2017 entries. This song has charm. I'm expecting at least 100 points from the televoters.

That does not mean anything honestly.. The juries and the public aren't the same in Eurovision.

You have a point and I was thinking about it too but I lost any faith in the international jury this year for obvious reasons and that the german public is not the smartest we already know. I like to be proven wrong but I am not optimistic. Sisters won because they had the pimp spot and they were more sympathic than the two frontrunners Lily and Aly. Their advantage is that there are a lot of bad vanilla songs chosen so far. Thats also the reason why I think France would be top 10 for now - lack of competition obviously.

Just watching their performance again and again … just love it. What a connection between the two on stage! Gives me really goosebumps. Love it to bits. Never thought I would say that! I have no idea how they'll do in May, they could flop, but they could also fly high.Being realistic, both ways possible. But I have finally an entry I can burn for!

I feel the same: This might be the first time for years that the entry of my own country is my favourite.

Last year's Finnish entry, Monsters, was both televoting amd jury favourite and got the honpur of being second last.

I don't think we can rely on how well an entry did with both jury and televote in its NF.

I think it's too early for daring predictions anyway, I actually get annoyed everytime I read such predictions at this stage when we don't even know half of the participant entries.

Jüri Pootsmann's Play (last in semi) was also the (narrow) jury and televote favorite in 2016.

True so. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. But that's the problem. I think we missed out big by not sending Ally or Lilly. We'll, that's the way it is

I am very disappointed with the result. Sister is a boring song sorry..
Aly was not so good live but would be better.
Lilly was by far the best one in the show! xheart It was a magical performance.
