Re: GEORGIA 2019 - Oto Nemsadze - Sul Tsin Iare

I think opinions on this entry will change for the better once we receive a studio version of it, complete with a music video (I don't think the winter coat + man bun fantasy is helping anyone here really at the moment apart from me and about five other people). You couldn't point me to a more powerful (whilst being tuneful) vocalist this year. The song might not be to everyone's tastes, but I think people are sleeping on Oto. His song I feel would benefit from strengthening of its ethnic elements particularly in the verses. At the moment it sounds like a song that's just won Festivali i kenges. That's my thing to a tee, but I can understand why others wouldn't be feeling it as much. I hope they have enough time for some touch ups as this so has the strength in it to reach the final. People are underestimating the force of just Oto's voice alone here. He's earth-shatteringly good. And whilst half the artists this year are on Nytol tablets, something big and epic surely has the power to count for something.

I'm so happy this will be at the contest. I'm actually starting to think Oto could finish the year as my ultimate favourite. I haven't been able to stop myself from listening to this entry since it was selected. Vaarada varada, varada rada hee. Vaarada varada, varada rada heexheat

I love reading your posts as they are often comprehensive without being exhausting at the same time and with a spark of something funny to boot. And from time to time I can learn something new as far as my English is concerned :geek:  I had to double check what does ''to a tee'' mean. I only knew "to a T" but in a slightly different context.

I don't see myself as "Anglophilian". I'm indifferent most of the time. In 27 national finals, i had 14 winners who sang in a national language and 13 winners who sang in a foreign language. I know that a lot of countrues didn't gave me much choice to begin with, so that's not that accurate, but still.. fun fact :D

No I never meant you were one of "them", just that it seems almost as a universal opinion regardless of where one stands on the language issue in ESC that Azerbaijan should send something authentic for change :)

I'm glad to hear it! I'd be careful though with using me for learning new phrases. I might write a lot but it's usually about 5% senseful, 15% gibberish, 80% claptrap.

Well if you say so. Your flag though tells me you're a native speaker though, so who should I trust while enriching my English then?

I listened to this on Monday and for some reason literally my first thought was how RainyWoods probably loves it, so I went back on the thread to not only see that being the case, but a couple of other people expressing the same thought. I'm not quite sure what this little collective psychic moment is, but pretty cool I guess. xthink:lol:

Anyways, my second thought was "intriguing", this is amazing. xheart And I normally wouldn't even expect myself to like this sort of song I guess, but something about it is so magical and captivating that I keep replaying it. I'm honestly perplexed it isn't a more liked entry, because I almost see no reason for it to not be. Its passion, authentic emotion and power is really refreshing in this year's line-up imo and his voice definitely is something else. I also love the structure of the song, because it's very build-up heavy/not very standard, yet it pays off stunningly. This is creeping into my top 5 and perhaps even my top 3, it just somewhy feels so real, more so than most of the other entries.

He competed back in 2017 Georgian selection with Dear God and finished 10th out of 25.

So that's why he was familiar! I hadn't made the connection before but I was one of only about two people who actually supported that song in Georgia's NF a couple years back. Glad he's made it to Eurovision now.

Vaarada varada, varada rada hee. Vaarada varada, varada rada heexheat

Seriously though, why is this bit getting stuck in my head so much? The song is just about the opposite of what I'd describe as "catchy" yet multiple times a day I find vaarada varada popping up in my mind and refusing to leave. It's probably a good sign. The song is slowly growing on me, I think, so I'll finally score it (with a 7 for now, though that could go anywhere from now on).

P.S. I'm proud to join you in the roughly-six-person group appreciating the "winter coat + man bun fantasy".

Exactly the same for me...xbow
He's my number one for now and high chance it will stay...
I even love the outfit from the NF! :D

And it is so good to again love Georgian entry with you here like we did for our dear Mariko! xheart

That's exactly what I am thinking. Especially can't understand the people who gave this entry a zero. But then again, it's taste. This song is such an usual ballad and I love it to bits. :D

You worked me out wellxheat

I don't understand the general reaction towards this entry either. It's kind of perplexing. I'm used to having favourites other fans don't enjoy but I at least can understand why usually. This entry having more 0s than anything else is sad. The song is all those things you described it as being. I do think opinions will change for the better once we hear the studio version, but then again, the live version we have now is fricking amazing and shows Oto means business. The buildup as you say as well is perfect and leads to a very stunning payoff. His voice is so mysteriously deep and rich during the verses, and then explosive when the song heats up. He's such a charismatic performer. Urhh I love this entry so much. It's an arousing song and performance. I completely ignored this selection until the final because an Idol format for selecting Eurovision entries is quite possibly my least favourite thing. I'm stunned though how such a format has given us Oto with a song like this.

It's cause it's a hook and a half! Just presented differently to how we're used to. It's stuck in my head too. His fashion of course is everything too.
