Alina Devecerski
Armé

vdl288.jpg

For this edition, the tempo and attitude is being raised again when Sweden is sending Alina Devecerski's single; Armé (Army), as its November entry. The entry is the lead-single of the 31-year-old singer-songwriter's second album Gnista + Gas (Spark + Gas) (released earlier this autumn).

Devecerski (the surname stems from her Serbian father), got her breakthrough with her 2012 debut hit single Flytta på dig, which topped the charts in all of the Scandinavian back in the summer of 2012. With Armé and her second album release, Alina is taking her sound and image to a somewhat darker and more raw direction while getting more political in her messages. Armé can be described as a fusion between Swedish contemporary indie-pop mixed and Swedish 1970's prog-punk music with influences of Eastern-European (mainly Russian) kind of cold, industrial-dance-Pop that can be heard in acts like t.A.T.u. for instance.

So unfortunately yet another mediocre mid-score result for Sweden (November 2014 edition). Again, I didn't expect any wonders, but I hoped for better. Nevertheless...

Tove Lo
Talking Body

25fipfn.jpg

For the 70th anniversary of FSC, and the last FSC for 2014, Sweden is coming back with its May 2014 participant Tove Lo (read more about her here). Tove has, since then, come a long way with her breakthrough single Habits (Stay High) becoming a top. 3 hit in USA, Canada, France and Australia (amongst others), making Tove one of the most internationally successful Swedish acts of late.

The entry for December 2014; Talking Body, is taken from Tove Lo's debut album Queen of the Clouds, released in the end of September 2014. The song is co-written by Tove herself and is a catchy and well-produced Pop song with a strong hook and quirky tongue-in-cheek lyrics (which have become a part of Tove's trademark).

Who cares if they like it? A bit of bribery and "gentle persuasion" doesn't hurt anyone. xshifty

Dolly Dolores
På måndag börjar jag igen

5ups4.jpg

Sweden is starting up the new year of 2015 by sending newcomer 24-year old "Dolly" Dolores Huremovic' breakthrough single; På måndag börjar jag igen (On Monday I'm starting again), which first premiered in May 2014, but just recently found its way to the general public. Dolores entered the Swedish Idol selections at the age of 17 back in 2008, passed the auditions, however never made it to the top. 10. Huremovic did release singles both in Swedish and English since 2010, all in jazzy or retro-influenced style, however this is her first mainstream breakthrough.

På måndag börjar jag igen is an uplifting retro-styled Swedish indie-pop song sung in the Scanian dialect (the dialect of the most southern region of Sweden).

iamamiwhoami
blue blue

2j1la9e.jpg

For February 2014, celebrating Sweden's 50th entry in FSC, Sweden is sending internationally critically acclaimed electro-indie-dream-pop act iamamiwhoami to FSC with the track "blue blue", picked from the act's third album release entitled "BLUE", which was released back in November 2014.

iamamiwhoami, fronted by singer-songwriter Jonna Lee accompanied by producer Claes Björklund, started out as a audiovisual musical project back in 2009, when the act posted random anonymous musical short clips on YouTube, starting speculations around musical forums and blogs about who could possible be hiding behind these clips. Eventually the act would present itself as a brand new musical act named iamamiwhoami. Part of iamamiwhoami's image and approach lays in the visual aspect where each new project gets pretended by various music videos, and also a deep connection to the internet sphere using it more as an integrated part of the project rather than just simple promo. One could call this an interactive musical project rather than your everyday musical act.

Musically, iamamiwhoami can be compared to Goldfrapp, The Knife, Björk, Kate Bush and even Kylie Minogue. The entry for this month's FSC, "blue blue", is a somewhat more lighter and poppier song compared to songs from former releases. It's a well-produced, dreamy and slightly melancholic electro-pop song which is both warm and distant at the same time.

Good to see iamamiwhoami here, though I personally like her previous albums more than the latest.

Glad to see someone liking them! Honestly "BLUE" was the first album of them I really got into... so I'm planning to try to go back to their future works as this one truly opened my eyes for them (although I've known about them for some time already).
