Owlmother
Papa Said No

2mry2iv.jpg

Owlmother is the musical alias of 33-year-old indie-electro-pop singer/songwriter Lina Stina Wedin. Wedin released her self-produced solo debut album "Ugglemor" (Owlmother) back in 2010 and her follow-up "Räddhare" (Frightened hare) in 2012. Wedin is currently working on her third album due this year (or 2015), and the Swedish entry for July 2014; Papa Said No (originally premiered back in October 2013), is most probably the first single release and teaser of that upcoming album. Some of Wedin's previous songs have been featured as theme songs in a documentary aired on SVT, however she has yet to have any commercial or mainstream break and is currently unknown to most Swedes.

The first time I heard Papa Said No, I simply fell in love with the song and I find it a hidden gem ready to be exposed to more people and FSC is a good way of doing just that. It's a heavy 80's influenced indie-pop track which is both uplifting, nostalgic yet melancholic at the same time. I hope you'll enjoy this song as much as I do!

So, yet another bad result for Sweden :( I must say FSC is becoming a bit too predictable results-wise. Oh well :/

A very big thank you to everyone that did support the Swedish entry for FSC#65 July 2014 atleast! xhug

I'm quite glad that you enjoyed both the Indonesian and the Malaysian entries xyaay. I was expecting you to like Hungary more though! ;)

I guess I should like Hungary more, atleast on paper, but somehow it wasn't quite there for me xshrug

Asia, as a continent, did really good in the Swedish votes this month. My top. 3 + 2-pointer were Asian entries (yes Turkey, you included ;)), the only one left out this month was :ph: (but atleast they got points from me two months in a row the previous editions).

Lykke Li
Gunshot

2dmgjyu.jpg

For the August (#66) edition, Sweden is sending one of its currently biggest international names in music; the 28-year old singer-songwriter Li Lykke Svensson Zachrisson or just Lykke Li. The entry; Gunshot, is her second single taken from her third album; I Never Learn, released in May 2014. Lykke Li debuted back in 2007 and released her debut album the following year, however it wasn't until her critically acclaimed follow-up album Wounded Rhymes (2011) and its lead-single I Follow Rivers, that she would reach her mainstream and international breakthrough.

Gunshot is a lyrically clever and musically dark indie-pop affair with a great hook and beautiful verses about a lost love and broken heart, hope you will all enjoy it!

After a rather struggling 2014 in FSC so far, Sweden is finally back in the top and it's the second Swedish win since I've joined (the last Swedish win was May 2013 - 15 months ago!)...

A very big thank you to everyone that supported the Swedish entry for FSC#66 - August and made "my" second win possible! xhug

Albin feat. Kristin Amparo
Din soldat

f0ubrm.jpg

After 15 months, FSC is finally back in Sweden!

For September 2014, the 67th edition of FSC, to round up the summer of 2014, Sweden is sending the biggest hit of summer 2014 in Sweden; Din soldat (Your Soldier), performed by rapper Albin Johnsén and singer Kristin Amparo. This entry marks a comeback for Amparo in FSC, who was featured on the Swedish FSC entry for July 2013; Dance Our Tears Away, which ended at a respectable #5. Din soldat marks Amparo's second mainstream hit in Sweden, and is the breakthrough single for 24-year old Johnsén.

So put on your dancing shoes and let's have a good time to this catchy Swedish uptempo Pop-HipHop track.

I sure hope the Queen of the Clouds will make an appearance sooner or later. :)

We'll see... ;) There's a good bunch on that album, unfortunately the best song imo is too old, her second best single has already been used (it's not even on the album for some odd reason :/).

Linnea Henriksson
Cecilia

4ptret.jpg

For this month, Sweden is sending (the soon to be) 28-year old Linnea Henriksson. Henriksson finished fourth in the Swedish Idol 2010, but is the only one from that edition of Swedish Idol that has crossed over to get a somewhat healthy career in music afterwards. Henriksson released her debut single Väldigt kär/Obegripligt ensam (Very 'in love'/Incomprehensible alone) back in 2011, but it wasn't until the release of the single Lyckligare nu (Happier Now), the following year, that she scored her first hit-single in Sweden with a top. 3 position on the Official Swedish Singles Charts. Both of these tracks are taken from Henriksson's debut album Till mina älskade och älskare (To my loved ones and lovers), also released in 2012.

Cecilia, this month's Swedish entry for FSC, is taken from Henriksson's follow-up album Du söker bråk, jag kräver dans (You're looking for brawl, I demand dance). The song was served to Swedish radio in summer of 2014 disguised as a club version which was remixed by former FSC entrant John De Sohn, but the version chosen for FSC is the more acoustic based, slowly-built-up, charming and light, yet mysterious and deep, album version of the song. The song has also been covered by former FSC-winner Petra September Marklund.

Album version (and FSC entry):

Official Radio Mix version mixed by John De Sohn (#5 in FSC#53):

Linnea Henriksson - Cecilia (John De Sohn Remix)
