Lisa Miskovsky
Wild Winds

For the 58th edition of the FSC, Sweden is sending the second official single of singer-songwriter Lisa Miskovsky's fifth studio album Umeå (released in September of 2013) entitled Wild Winds. The song is the follow-up single to Miskovsky's 2012 (and so far only) bet to the Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (Melodifestivalen); Why Start a Fire?, which qualified directly to the grand final back in late February of 2012. Miskovsky, a former participant of the Swedish national snowboard team, debuted on the Swedish music scene back in 2001 with the single Driving One of Your Cars, which earned her her first top. 20 single in Sweden, followed up by her self-titled debut album released in the same year. In 2003, she would enjoy her commercially most successful era to date with her follow-up album Fallingwater, earning her her first and so far only #1 charting album and Platinum-seller, aswell as her so far only top. 10 single on the official Swedish Singles Chart with the album's lead-single Lady Stardust.

The track Wild Winds, this month's FSC entry, is a melodic soft mid-tempo adult contemporary-alternative Pop song, with the echoes of Nordic melancholy and calmness. Originally released back in May 2013, it's probably more fit for the autumn and winter, and therefor a perfect pick for a December edition of FSC.

2013 marked the comeback for Sweden in FSC, after a half year of absence from the contest. Sweden re-joined as a jury in March 2013, and sent its first entry in 7 months back in April 2013. It's been a pretty successful year for Sweden in FSC, with 7 top. 10 positions and its second win in the FSC.

I'm very happy that I was persuaded to join this forum contest, it's been lots of fun and a great opportunity to get a bit closer to other forum members aswell but most of all a great way to share and explore music from our countries.

I wish you all a Happy New Year 2014, and looking forward to a new year of FSC and lots of new great music! xcheer

Happy you liked it! As for Duvchi's song, I simply fell in love with it and had to bring it to the FSC when I joined! :)

And yes rjb99, that's what I really like about this contest aswell... I've got to know alot of great music this year thanks to the other "FSC'ers" that I would probably have never heard of if it weren't for this contest.

Agnetha Fältskog
I Was a Flower

2uidua1.jpg

ENTRY:

For the 60th edition of FSC, we're slowing down the tempo with a proper ballad. Now 63-year old Agnetha Fältskog, debuted on the Swedish music scene in 1967 with the self-penned single Jag var så kär (I was so in love), which was later followed up by her self-titled debut album in 1968.

In 1968 Agnetha would also meet her future husband, the singer and songwriter Björn Ulvaeus, for the first time. The couple married in 1971 and in 1972 Agnetha (that already had released four solo albums at that time), would join the formation of the new group named ABBA, consisting of herself, her husband Björn, Benny Andersson and fellow singer and friend of Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

ABBA entered the Swedish selection for Eurovision Song Contest, Melodifestivalen, in 1973 with their entry Ring Ring, which earned them a third place in the competition. The group would once again try their luck in 1974's Melodifestivalen with the entry Waterloo, which won the Swedish selection and then went on to win Eurovision Song Contest of that year. The Eurovision success would also mark the international breakthrough for Agnetha and ABBA, which would become the most successful Pop group of all time. Agnetha and Björn divorced in 1979, and ABBA would break-up as a group a couple of years later in 1983.

Agnetha's solo-career re-started in 1983 after the ABBA break-up, but after releasing three English-language albums during the 1980's, Agnetha left the music-scene and wouldn't return again until as lat as 2004, when she released her first studio album in 17 years consisting of covers from her 1960's favorite songs. In 2013, Agnetha returned to the music scene once more with her fifth English-language and ninth studio album with original material entitled A.

I Was a Flower is a bittersweet, timeless and melodious ballad, with beautiful lyrics that many people could rely to about lost love and a broken heart. The song is picked from the album A.

Elin Överfjord
Nu

elinheader2_940x470.jpg

Nu is the debut single (released back in late August 2013) by Swedish newcomer; 18-year old Elin Överfjord. Elin has yet to achieve her commercially breakthrough, so only time will tell where this young singer will end up. This catchy, dancy Pop tune in Swedish could very well have been a hot contender for Melodifestivalen, maybe we'll see Elin on there in a year or two?
