Nu is the debut single (released back in late August 2013) by Swedish newcomer; 18-year old Elin Överfjord. Elin has yet to achieve her commercially breakthrough, so only time will tell where this young singer will end up. This catchy, dancy Pop tune in Swedish could very well have been a hot contender for Melodifestivalen, maybe we'll see Elin on there in a year or two?
LYRICS:
[Verse 1]
Vi flammar upp
tankesätt, ett plus ett
älskade stund
lever nu
Kärlek så ung
du min gäst, ingen stress
älskade dröm
lever nu
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Vi bygger något vackert
I det, finns du och jag
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Vi drömmer oss en helt ny dag
Och lever här och
NU...
Lever här och
NU...
[Verse 2]
Känslan är störst
Ändå så fjäderlätt
Framtidens kurs
Lever nu
Skrivet i tusch
Våra namn, som blev ett
Klart att vi törs
Leva nu
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Vi bygger något vackert
I det, finns du och jag
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Vi drömmer oss en helt ny dag
Och lever här och
NU...
Lever här och
NU...
[Middle 8]
För den känslan är du
Och den andas här och nu
Ingenting har ett slut
Om vi lever här och nu
nu - nu – nu - nu...
[Final Chorus]
NU...
den andas här och nu
NU...
lever här och nu
Och lever här och
NU...
Lever här och
NU...
[Coda]
För den känslan är du
Och den andas här och nu
Ingenting har ett slut
Om vi lever här och nu
LYRICS (ENGLISH TRANSLATION):
[Verse 1]
We're going up in flames
mindset, one plus one
beloved moment
living now
Love so young
you are my guest, no stress
beloved dream
living now
[Bridge]
He whispers through my body
You know that I want to do everything for us
I glide a parachute jump
He catches me at the emotional peak
[Chorus]
Oh- oh -oh- oh
We build something beautiful
In it, there's you and me
Oh- oh -oh- oh
We dream ourselves a brand new day
And living here and
NOW...
Living here and
NOW...
[Verse 2]
The feeling is greatest
Yet so light as a feather
The future course
living now
Written in ink
Our names, which became one
Of course we dare
live now
[Bridge]
He whispers through my body
You know that I want to do everything for us
I glide a parachute jump
He catches me at the emotional peak
[Chorus]
Oh- oh -oh- oh
We build something beautiful
In it, there's you and me
Oh- oh -oh- oh
We dream ourselves a brand new day
And living here and
NOW...
Living here and
NOW...
[Middle 8]
For that feeling is you
And it breathes here and now
Nothing has an end
If we're living here and now
Now - now - now - now...
[Final Chorus]
NOW...
it breathes here and now
NOW...
living here and now
And living here and
NOW...
Living here and
NOW...
[Coda]
For that feeling is you
And it breathes here and now
Nothing has an end
If we're living here and now
Yeah, she was your suggestion right? I picked her first single though and not the one you suggested (I find this one a bit stronger), however there might be a chance the other one will be picked later on but this one had to be chosen first anyways due to the release date rules.
This is the second time I pick a suggested act (not song though).
For April 2014, Sweden is returning with the act Panda Da Panda (June 2013, #22), and the track Vår värld, taken from Panda Da Panda's debut album Flaoua Paoua (released in June 2013). Vår värld is a mysterious indie-dance-pop track sung in the Scanian dialect of Southern Sweden. To read more about the act (and the former FSC entry) click here.
LYRICS:
[Verse 1] Min måne, min sol. Skuggan skrämmer inte bort min ro.
Mitt varma, mitt kall.
LYRICS (ENGLISH TRANSLATION):
[Verse 1] My moon, my sun. The shadow does not scare away my peace.
My warm, my vocation. I dare close my eyes in my own fall.
[Chorus] No one reaches our world, it is everyone's but only we there.
Looking around me, then I'm becoming blind and don't feel anything.
My moon, my sun. My moon, my sun.
[Verse 2] Our earth, our forest. Feeling the breeze through the skin where we live.
We can believe that our facade is built from made up calm.
[Chorus] No one reaches our world, it is everyone's but only we there.
Looking around me, then I'm becoming blind and don't feel anything.
My moon, my sun. My moon, my sun. My moon, my sun. My moon, my sun.
No one reaches our world, it is everyone's but only we there.
Looking around me, then I'm becoming blind and don't feel anything.
He's actually not very known in Sweden, he's more of a hipster/indie type of act, but somehow I've fallen for his quirky indie-pop-dance so I just had to give him another shot.
A bit late with the thank you's this time around, anyhow... yet another pretty disappointing (yet expected) result for Sweden. "The Panda" didn't manage much better this time around, in fact the results ended up almost identical as the first time we sent Panda Da Panda. Nevertheless... still...
A very big thank you to everyone that supported the Swedish entry for FSC#62 April 2014!
For May 2014, Sweden is sending another newcomer on the Swedish Pop scene. 26-year-old Tove "Lo" Nilsson started out as part of a band called Tremblebee, and has also been collaborating with famous and successful Swedish songwriter/composer/producer Max Martin in his songwriting team. Tove Lo debuted her first solo single Love Ballad, back in 2012, and released her debut EP titled; Truth Serum, in March 2014. Except for Out of Mind, the EP also includes the single Habits (Stay High), which is currently enjoying some UK success, having ended up in the top. 10 on the official UK Singles Charts recently in its remix version simply titled Stay High.
LYRICS:
[Verse 1:] Lovers
Into friends
Move on
To strangers
Let go
No more us
Move on
I'm trying
Denying
Saying 'Time will heal'
Keep lying
To make me feel
I'm OK
So you believe
I'd forget you
Seriously?
Are you kidding me?
[Chorus:] You're out of your... mind
To think that I...
You're out of your... mind
To think that I...
To think that I could keep you
Out of mine.
[Verse 2:] Happy
Used to be
Together
You and Me
Things die
Drift apart
Wait for
A new start
Denying
Think you'll fade away
Keep lying
I can hear you say
You're in touch with reality
Baby, I'd say
Are you kidding me?
[Chorus:] You're out of your... mind
To think that I...
You're out of your... mind
To think that I...
To think that I could keep you
Out of mine.
[Middle 8:] How can you say I'll be alright?
What makes you think that I'll be fine?
Baby you have to be completely out of your mind,
To think that I could keep you out of mine.
[Chorus:] You're out of your... mind
To think that I...
You're out of your... mind
To think that I...
To think that I could keep you
Out of mine...
For June 2014, Sweden is returning to FSC for a third time with one of our most successful contemporary female artists; Veronica Maggio. On the Swedish entry for June; Hela Huset, Veronica is teaming up with one of Sweden's most successful male artists of the past 1,5 decade; Håkan Hellström. The now 40-year old Hellström debuted back in 2000 with the single and album Känn ingen sorg för mig Göteborg(Don't feel any sorrow for me Gothenburg), and has to date released seven studio albums which have all ended up at number one at the official Swedish album chart aswell as reaching atleast Gold status in Sweden.
Hela huset, a indie-contemporary-folk-poppy track which can be compared to the style of The Lumineers and Of Monsters And Men mixed with Maggio's Swedish vispop and Swedish indie-pop in general, is the second single from Maggio's fourth album Handen i fickan fast jag bryr mig, released in October 2013. The track is co-written by Maggio aswell as Salem Al-Fakir (2nd place in Melodifestivalen 2010) and Vincent Pontare. The latter two also worked on Avicii's debut album aswell as the previous Maggio entry for FSC Sergels torg.
Is it going to be the third time the charm for Maggio? You decide!
LYRICS:
I gräset sover någon än, ser ganska obekvämt ut men
LYRICS (ENGLISH TRANSLATION):
[Verse 1:] My pale cheek is black by make-up
Hear the whole house sleeping heavily
There's nothing I need that is somewhere else
I could die now, with the cheek against your neck
I rise from our bed, leaving you sleeping my friend
I'm sneaking across the floor, watching the sun rise
At that moment, I know that everything has an end
[Chorus:] Everything is too good now
Walking around in t-shirt and am tired
Sitting at the piano between bottles, glasses and cigarette butts
Closing my eyes until I glimpse the happiness and I know that everything is too good now
Everything is good now
[Verse 2:] The party has died long ago
The couch has become a bed
I borrow someone's boots in size 45
Walking out the door and there is the summer
In the grass someone is still sleeping, looking quite uncomfortable but
I snap a few pictures and laugh to myself
At that moment, I know that everything has an end
[Chorus:] Everything is too good now
Walking around in t-shirt and am tired
Sitting at the piano between bottles, glasses and cigarette butts
Closing my eyes until I glimpse the happiness and I know that everything is too good now
Everything is good now
Everything is too good now
Walking around in t-shirt and am tired
Sitting at the piano between bottles, glasses and cigarette butts
Closing my eyes until I glimpse the happiness...
Everything is too good now
Walking around in t-shirt and am tired
Sitting at the piano between bottles, glasses and cigarette butts
Closing my eyes until I glimpse the happiness and I know that
Everything is too good now
Everything is good now
So back to another mediocre result for Sweden in June unfortunately. I must say I expected something better for this entry tbh.
My goal since joining FSC has been to make up for the rather mediocre results Sweden generally got previously in FSC by sending (imo) stronger entries, also to emphasize more on the use of the Swedish language than previous Swedish jurors did (I try to make it somewhat 50/50 atleast) aswell as mix styles (but still stay true to my own taste since I'm the sole juror thus far and I wouldn't pick entries I dislike only to reach success). Unfortunately, it seems that the English language Swedish entries continue to be generally more successful than the Swedish language ones which I find a bit of a pity in a sense. Oh well, hopefully next month will be more lucky for us again.
Anyhow...
A very big thank you to everyone that supported the Swedish entry for FSC#64 June 2014!
Owlmother is the musical alias of 33-year-old indie-electro-pop singer/songwriter Lina Stina Wedin. Wedin released her self-produced solo debut album "Ugglemor" (Owlmother) back in 2010 and her follow-up "Räddhare" (Frightened hare) in 2012. Wedin is currently working on her third album due this year (or 2015), and the Swedish entry for July 2014; Papa Said No (originally premiered back in October 2013), is most probably the first single release and teaser of that upcoming album. Some of Wedin's previous songs have been featured as theme songs in a documentary aired on SVT, however she has yet to have any commercial or mainstream break and is currently unknown to most Swedes.
The first time I heard Papa Said No, I simply fell in love with the song and I find it a hidden gem ready to be exposed to more people and FSC is a good way of doing just that. It's a heavy 80's influenced indie-pop track which is both uplifting, nostalgic yet melancholic at the same time. I hope you'll enjoy this song as much as I do!
