An acoustic version :
Think I'm just stating the obvious here, but why not just do this at Eurovision? I mean, his vocals are clearly meant for this 'dude-with-a-guitar'-type of music. I really dislike stuff like that, but at least this is coherent. This version also highlights the problem that arises after the second chorus. That whole thing there just doesn't work, I know they want to add some effect without going for bombast, but it's not pretty.

Agree to disagree. To me, Micheal wasn't charming at all. In fact, he came across pretty amateurish. I am sure Tom Leeb should do fine stage wise, but the song itself is dire. No matter how much revamp they put into this song, it's not going to save it. I still can't believe we are still getting such songs in ESC. Hello, it's 2020 already. Can someone please put a ban on allowing countries accepting John Lundvik's "creations".

Edit: Now I realized Amir is part of the writing team for this song. What went WRONG???

Amir basically isn't responsible for this horrible mess. G:son, Boström and Lundvik wrote this dead-upon-arrival entry and when the French delegation picked the entry which made them forget about everything else they came to Amir to translate a few phrases into French to please the French fans.

This is another example they everything is so freaking desperate and lame: The French delegation took the first Eurovision connected songwriters they could find and asked the first former French contestant they could think of to come up with 4 lines in French.

Seriously, this level of basicness and laziness makes me soooo angry!

That's what I thought so. But then isn't Tom also French? Surely he is able to come out with basic lines in French. The fact that having 5 of them co-written the song and this is the best they came out with is abysmal.

The acoustic version is definitely better, but it's not going to save the song. What they need to do is scrap it and find a better song. I just refuse to believe over 100 songs were submitted and this is the best one they have decided on. The French delegation is in need of a reality check.

I agree, Tom is also French BUT he has ZERO input and throw away all artistic integrity, authenticity and dignity. He's just a puppet who got to sing a lifeless song which has got winning potential according to delusional people in charge.
Even Tom's French sounds off in the studio version, he's not familiar with coming up with the right French words/diction whilst composing and singing maybe?
They should just give him his guitar and let him sing an honest song in English, instead.

This whole entry is so forced (The Lipsync For Your Life Eiffel Tower performance included)!

The only chance for France to avoid bottom 5 is to have a really impactful staging like Bilal last year or like Ireland 2018 for example. A killer staging can give France a midtable result at best. We have already seen a lot of times bad or unpopular songs being improved by a very good staging

It's too early to say that he will come dead last or bottom 5. ESC community clearly hates it but it can work outside the community, to the rest of televoting who does not care if the song is dated. There have been some entries in the past that got a lot of hate before but managed to do well.
On the other hand there are way to many negative reactions to ingore them. Maybe they are the first sign of a very bad result.

Are we seriously even comparing this to "Roi" and "Together"? At least "Roi" has an authentic backstory to back it. As for "Together", the song itself was meh and people expected it to be "men" because Ireland hasn't been giving us quality entries. But France? They have been on the right track ever since 2016 but choosing this over the supposed 100 odd entries submitted has destroyed what they have been building up. The only thing they have done right is select a competent singer who is very easy on the eyes.

I don't know if this could be the best solution.
I wouldnt expect things like this from a country like France, with such a beautiful music heritage.
Internal selections are always too risky for me. Up and downs.
DE was a good option and some good results were coming. It was only a matter of time.
Here in Italy nobody cared and cares about Esc but lately things are changing. Rai has done a good job in this direction. Before nobody wanted to go to esc but mow, after the good European exposure of Gualazzi Mengoni IL volo, most of them want to go to esc just to encrease their public.
Mahmood Marco Mengoni Il Volo and Raphael Gualazzi have organized tours in Europe. So going to ESC sn opportunity.
For this reason France should create a system to bring near the big names or the talented ones and convince them that ESC could be an opportunity to be known and heard even outside country

Believe me or not im 100% sure the HoD choosed the song alone and asked to other members of the delegation to accept the decision even if they dont agree with. I can't believe this song was accepted by all the delegation. And now because of that we have to wait 1 year to get "perhaps" a great entry again. Can they stop doing jokes and send Eugénie to the next edition of Eurovision please ? She is such a gem in french music industry.

Eugénie, Marina Kaye, Jain , Slimane, Maelle, Philippine, Suzanne, Hoshi, Hyphen Hyphen(but perhaps not them as they are very popular), If we want a big name : GIMS, Indila . We have a very big music industry with so much talented newcomers and confirmed names but we take the worst names.

Maëlle would be also great. So much talented artists in France but with the upcoming potential bad result we will get, will they try Eurovision ? after all the criticism about Tom song

I can also imagine the standard "yes yes, we all agree with you boss, this is absolutely the best entry that we all love [because you are the boss and seem to like it]". But we shall never know the truth. All that's left is hoping for a better song next year.

(Honestly, how must any semi competent songwriter who tried his luck this year with France feel by now? )

@RainyWoods @AshleyWright

We should stan this comment so France will better buy this song instead. Also after refund from Gson they will probably be able to afford these amazing dancers

Many people agree with this statement, me included. It's more in tune with his style and thus, more authentic
And actually in this version I liked the French parts more than the English ones, even if he still need to work on his pronunciation.
But well, there is no need to get our hopes up.

I would love to see someone like her in Eurovision. She hasn't released a song of her own since 2018 but from what she said on instagram something is coming 2020 !

Personnally I want Maëlle for next year, then Carla in 2022.😍
Even if I'm not a fan of the idea of former talent show contestants ending as our representative one year after another, Maëlle would be a good idea too. I like her voice tone.
