He sounds awful while singing it live, out of the tune for the most of time. I guess nothing can help him. Plus, song is middle of the road.

Honestly he improved vocally, there's just the first part of the chorus and that last note that still sounds very awful.

I hope the revamp will elevate the song even more. I really enjoy the song and thought it's actually good. It's currently in my top 10.
As for his 'live' performance, I know there are certain parts where he sort of struggled to hit the notes (I would say it's more shaky).
But I think with the right amount of rehearsals, he could hit them. With the right staging and hitting all the notes, I can see this doing quite well.
Maybe another top 10-15 placing for France.

His voice isn't the problem, it's not too bad actually (but, like I said, room for improvement, that's for sure!). What kinda annoys me is the "And I know-oh-oh-ow, even though-oh-oh-oh You try to take me down, you cannot break me, nah, nah" part and his hands' movements. The song is actually at #4 in my top 41 but that part is still cringeworthy.

At the moment, I still feel like a "Mercy" kind of fate awaits us this year. Despite the schizophrenic attitude the international "experts" have had towards "Roi" in Destination Eurovision, I could imagine ESC juries potentially rank us 10th-13th because the "politically-correct message + inoffensive pop music" combo is something they usually gravitate towards (see Israel 2016). I said "potentially" because I wouldn't be surprised if we bombed in their ranking eventually.

Televoting-wise, I fail to see us going anywhere tbh: every element of our package will be outdone by someone else in May.

I really wanted Bilal to sing a bitchy uptempo song (like the material that will be on his debut album) and put on a wild performance: it would have been more entertaining, fresher coming from us, and less calculated (at least to all appearances) than this Conchita/Madame Monsieur mid-tempo hybrid that's not memorable in the slighest IMO.

That's his style though, go check his MVs: he's more into light butt-shaking music than anything else. and the couple of snippets from his album that he shared on social media have that vibe as well.

Not that I particularly longed to hear such a genre (that's trendy in France right now), but I think he would have pulled it off better.

it's mid march and we are still sleeping on bilal? at this point if he flops it will be more of a self-fulfilled prophecy like manel being last place than anything else. i remain steady on the "if he goes top 5 it won't surprise me at all" boat, even if now i have to consider flopping too just out of that manel effect. hopefully bilal and the delegation are paying zero attention to the fanbase.

So all 41 songs are out and Bilal is found dead and forgotten in a ditch
Let’s see what kind of drama they’ll come up with in may to bring this back to the topic.

I already see "somebody will threat him to death" before ESC in Tel Aviv.

Exactly. It's obvious that some broadcasters are aware of press exposure on results, and are trying to take their share of drama.

Nobody is advocating death threats or anything, but what you do in that case is going to court and seeking your rights. Not informing the media of all your actions. I just don't see any news quality in that.

If you were a little bit more aware of what's going on with that, you'd knew that he reported some of his aggressors. He just can't control everything the medias says about him.. He talked a lot about cyber harassment in his Youtube videos and now he's basically asked about it in each interview he does, but you can't blame him or the delegation for that. Moreover, Madame Monsieur had a lot of media coverage last year with the song being inspired by Mercy, and still, that didn't help much with the results.

This song is a bit rubbish. I don't like how it switches from English to French and so on. Just sing in french. We all expect this from France for fucks sake. Something about Bilal makes me cringe too. He looks like a really bitchy receptionist that wants to win the X Factor. If he has in France, please excuse my ignorance.

Actually, he did the X Factor but in the UK.

Tumblr, mostly.
lol, I love pretty much everything about Bilal's style tbh, but I understand why it turns people off. "Yasss Hunny *z-snap*" style in-yo-face homosexuality ain't for everyone, but you know, that's how he is.

Bilal acts sassy and fierce as a means of appearing strong and unflappable due to the massive backlash he's received during his life (not even after Destination Eurovision, long before that).

Nobody can force you to like him, but hating him because of his sass kind of makes me feel.. idk, icky. Either way, just be respectful in your dislike. That is Roi's message, after all. (which is also why I think Roi is secretly a really strong song, let down only by its unoriginal orchestration)

His song is meh but I like Bilal himself. He's a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to all his interviews with the ESC press :)

I don't have problem with him being sassy or smth..

I have huge problem because my ears are bleeding of his singing and my brain is getting damaged of how bad that composition is..

He can do everything you described, but his place is not in a music festival..

So that's how you're being respectful. People like you are just pissing me off.. of course you can dislike his song or the way he sings (both are now that bad tho), but here you're just being rude. If he's in Eurovision then he is, respect that and get away with it. Moreover, you're not having any constructive commentary, so what's the point of your intervention here?

Well Antho, the huge difference is I'm honest...
I really wouldn't have problem with him being in music contest if he could sing and had at least slightly better coomposition..
