Midnight, it's time to put your face on
Game set, a killer shark in heels
I'm just the first shot on your hit list
High kicks, a predator on wheels
Woke up with bruises on my body
Hands tied, like Jesus on the cross
Your name's in lipstick on the mirror

Jezebel
I don't know how you got in my blood
Was it the dangerous things you do?
You always wanted to be a star
Jezebel
If you're the hunter then I'm the prey
You lick your lips as you walk away
Your final kiss is to leave a scar
On a heart
Jezebel

At night you turn into a tiger
A girl who looks like she's a boy
The world's most ultimate survivor

Jеzebel (Jezеbel)
I don't know how you got in my blood (Jezebel)
Was it the dangerous things you do? (Jezebel)
You always wanted to be a star
Jezebel (Jezebel)
If you're the hunter then I'm the prey (Jezebel)
You lick your lips as you walk away (Jezebel)
Your final kiss is to leave a scar
On a heart

Sunrise, you crawl under the covers
Sleep tight until the dying sun
Tonight you'll catch another lover
Jezebel

Jezebel (Jezebel)
I don't know how you got in my blood (Jezebel)
Was it the dangerous things you do? (Jezebel)
You always wanted to be a star
Jezebel (Jezebel)
If you're the hunter then I'm the prey (Jezebel)

Your final kiss is to leave a scar

I think it's because it's something you'd normally find in the Finnish pop radios or platforms. To me it actually represents more accurately the Finnish pop scene.

This can actually be their weakness, UMK viewers and voters usually go for something different than what they would listen to in daily basis. Also, most of the Finns are convinced that Finnish language would never do well in Eurovision.
The Finnish language is wonderful. Tolkien was convinced that the Finnish language was, along with Italian, Greek, Latin and Welsh the best languages (so much so that he used them for the creation of his fantastic languages). Finland must believe in its language. Italy has shown that it is not necessary to conform to the English language to be successful.

If you watch the reactions on various ESC YouTube channels, you will often find the opinion that "I would wish I knew what the singer is singing about". If this attitude influences the way people vote, I can understand that many countries don't dare to send songs in native languages. There may be some who find native languages charming - but they are not quite as many.

I've noticed that while some non-English songs have had success at Eurovision, it's often songs that are different - or it's songs from one of the big countries. How many pop songs performed in native languages by a small country have had success in ESC? It's very few.

Aye, Quenya is based on Finnish and Oonagh, one of our bigger Ethno artists in Germany, uses it to great success in her songs. Finnish may sound strange to ears unfamiliar with its sound, but it also is a very melodic language.

Although Finns embrace and are proud of the uniqueness of Finnish language, the poor results makes people feel pessimistic, unfortunately. Let’s see …

2015 Aina mun pittää, dead last.
2010 Työlki Ellää, dialect, tanked by the jurors, eliminated.
2008 Missä Miehet Ratsastaa, bottom 4 in the final

Some classics like Niin Kaunis On Taivas (last), Sata Salamaa (15th), Katso Sineen Taivaan (bottom 6) got very poor results, but they are anthems in Finland.

We can argue other factors for those results, but general public tend to reduce it to the language as one of the main reasons.

I know that generally Finland has not been very successful and same bad results were accomplished by entries in English, but the best results, including the only winning song, were sang actually in English. While I agree with you, Italy doesn’t work as a reference as Italian is seen as big language and a big country in music. Somehow, Finland has developed this “small man syndrome” based on their own experience.

"Työlki ellä" and "Missä miehet ratsastaa" were both big childhood favourites of mine lol, still don't really get why neither of them went through, very fun songs. I know that I as a Swede I'm not really the most impartial judge (having grown up to a certain extent with Finnish shown on TV, Finnish music, etc) but I've always found it to be a very pretty language.

I agree that most viewers outside of the Nordics + Estonia might not be too familiar with Finnish and thus it might be an uphill battle (compared to one in say Italian or Spanish), but if the song is strong enough and especially the stanging is done right, I am sure that it'll go well and that at least the juries will reward you. After all "Monsters", which was much weaker than any of the Finnish language songs that are contenders in UMK this year, went through to the final.

At this point, I would like to introduce my TOP5 of Finnish entries of all time:

1. Saara Aalto
2. Hanna Pakarinen
3. Blind Channel
4. Lordi
5. Aksel

Finally caught up with the songs on Spotify. Did watch the lyric videos for most of them but nothing register except Bess's one, and it's not because of the song, but the concept of the music video.

My ranking:
  1. Bess - It's a pretty good pop-rock track. Sounds something P!nk will do in the late 2000s.
  2. Cyan Kicks
  3. Isaac Sene
  4. The Rasmus - Can't believe they are participating though. But it's an alright track considering their standards.
  5. Olivera
  6. Younghearted
  7. Tommi Läntinen
I am yet again disappointed with another NF. Not a single song has made an impact. Feels pretty meh.

Dear Finland, oh dear God, you have officially the best NF like ever. I literally love all the songs, but Cyjan Kicks is jest perfect. When I saw they will be in UMK, I knew they'd slay and they did. People of Finland, please chose them xheart

Mine would be:

1. Waldo's People
2. Blind Channel
3. Darude & Sebastian Rejman
4. Lordi
5. Hanna Pakarinen

Even though I enjoy listening to many Finnish entries, they usually don´t make my Top 10 and therefore, :fi: is one of the countries which are very low in my "all-time" Eurovision ranking.
My Top 5 would be looking like that:

#1 Norma John 2017
#2 Teräsbetoni 2008
#3 Saara Aalto 2018
#4 Kuunkuiskaajat 2010
#5 Waldo´s People 2009
