I know. Finland used to be one of my favourite countries in Europe, but they keep on letting me down with their NF winners. The only winner I agree with in the past 10 years is Saara Aalto-Monsters, and there were only 3 songs so it was 33% possibility haha.
Pretty much the exact same situation here (i.e. I've been following UMK since 2013 and haven't yet gotten my way with the exception of Monsters). I said earlier in the year that I was sort of cursed when it came to my favourites in UMK, but that I didn't really mind this year because I had no big favourite. Later on, though, Cicciolina grew on me in a major way and became a big favourite... which I guess made it subject to the UMK-curse
I actually don't mind Aksel (haven't done up a review post yet but TL;DR the song is kinda nice, 5-6 points I guess). It's just that a) I've now had almost a decade now of Finland picking the "kinda nice" song over the "12 points, please win Eurovision" song; b) I
still don't have a single 12 yet this season, after losing a lot of potential candidates in NFs; and c) Looking Back is yet another contemporary radio ballad in a year that has far too many of those already for my tastes. So the song kind of represents what's annoying me about all of those trends.
(Still though, it's pleasant enough in and of itself, and Aksel seems lovely. I wish the broader fandom would stop sending him hate messages. Just aaaaargh, Finland, get your act together for next year please, you have so much potential)
