Bah ... the explanations of the perspectives for me leave the time it finds. In this case, in national championships and European cups, the yardstick will always be at the mercy of subjectivity. One way to address the problem would be to equip the lines of the playing field and the ball with sensors in direct contact with a central computer in the VAR room and capable of correcting the referee and linesmen. Could this slow down the game and make the figure of the referee and linesmen lose their value? All right, then the VAR in this case can only act in the event of serious errors or, even better, as happens in volleyball, each bench has only 2 calls available per playing time (the second is an intriguing choice because it also plays a lot on ability and the timing of a bench to correct a referee decision and let other irrelevant ones pass).

Now, we are all happy for Japan but here I always see the faction of fans who dream of David beating Goliath. Play England - Burkina Faso or Portugal - Bhutan? They always cheers excessively for the team that has no hope and closes his eyes to the real dynamics of the game.

I think the discussion can end here xbeach

I drew in a red line on the part of the ball that is closest to the line and it actually seems it is still on a vertical plane with the goal line.. not sure if this was understandable English but I think you can see what I mean. Another Wembley 1966 kind of story we fell a victim to but in this case it seems like the decision is alright...

About our performance yesterday... first 15 minutes and last 20 minutes were good, everything in between was a devastating embarassment. Most Costa Rica players are probably on a level with 3rd division players in Germany but we gave them more and more spaces and made them look like a proper Europa League team. I could fill one or two pages of a book with matches in which we gave away 1-0 leads in the last four years.. this is a disease of the current German generation. This team lacks mental strength and the willingness to fight until it hurts... they proved they can have this willingness when they played Spain.. that was a fantastic fight but against minor sides they seem to believe they can finish them off with 70% of energy.. what the heck were they even doing after the 1-0 lead? Why didn't they keep up the pressure to the clear up this win early? The unforced errors and misunderstandings in the attack and the sloppy mistakes in the defense pissed me off and in addition to all this Neuer is definitely past his prime... he looked bad in at least 3 of the 5 goals we conceded in Qatar. Flick should consider Ter Stegen in the future.

As a Werder Bremen fan I am very happy about the performance of Füllkrug in Qatar. Many people here agree he should have played from the beginning instead of Müller who was bad once again (btw, he will probably retire from the national team). But it seems like Flick has favorite players who always play regardless of how bad they perform. Füllkrug also had a bad miss yesterday but this was also due to an amazing reaction of Keylor Navas. Füllkrug still scored once and gave one assist for Havertz. So he once again got his job done. Hope he will still be part of the national team on our way to the Euro 2024. This would actually be the only motivation for me to keep track on the German matches. In general, I lost my hope for this generation and I think I will rather focus on other national teams on the future.

Also, I am very disappointed especially since I believe Spain did not do their best.. some people who watched this match said they didnt look like they seriously tried to turn this match around apart from those 3 minutes they were actually out xcrazy and I really saw this coming... I felt like they would be happy to send Germany at home. Shame. But am I mad? No, not really because this enabled a historical success for the Japanese football ... first time they beat giants in a World Cup (well, let's call Germany a "on-paper giant") and even did so twice... stunning! My heart was melting when the ref blew the final whistle and all the staff and bench players were running on the pitch. Now this is the second time in the row they advanced from group stage and I think they will also give Croatia a hard time. Now we've got two AFC teams in the Round of 16, plus two AFC teams who won group stage matches... this is already a terrific success for the confederation. From Africa there are two teams in the R16 and another one can follow. Three African teams in the R16 would be a novelty. Fantastic story!

Who do you thin will retifre from the national team?? Or better should??

I don't understand your English but rules are rules, and rules clearly say you should look from above and not from the side.
I also think there should be censors, and then everyone would be convinced that Japan won fair and square.
Football does not make sense anyway, you can be a great attacker and have 99% ball possession and 150 shots on goal, but at the end of the day the one who scores the ball into the goal will win. It's not always the attacker team winning, sometimes if you play defense wisely you can knock down your rival.

Next to Müller, I think that maybe Gündogan will. I heard that he wanted to before this WC, but that Flick persuaded him to continue. I doubt he will after this WC.

Really crazy how with all these quality players Germany fails at WC again

It's clearly not a player problem, maybe a mentality thing ? Or a coach thing ?

I think Flick (at least in my eyes) did a few wrong things like I would have at least taken Mats Hummels to this WC, then I don't understand why he took Gündogan out in the Japan match (you could see the break-down after that) and I simply don't understand why he brought Füllkrug so late yesterday.

But it is also a mentality problem as you said it correctly - I didn't see this in the match yesterday: the true fighting spirit. Schweinsteiger said it perfectly yesterday on TV: the players didn't "burn". Flick was literally pissed when Schweinsteiger said this, but it is true. And this truth hurts the most.

But in my eyes Flick should stay. You cannot say after one tournament if he is the right coach or not.

Bierhoff on the other side should finally resign, his arrogant attitutde sucks big time, it´s mainly his fault that fans and team estranged from each other.

If we are to follow your logic in 1966 England then are rightfully world champions and all controversy is dictated by conspiracy theory lovers. Personally I don't even think it's really important whether Japan won honestly or not, what matters is winning and whoever wins is always right. Do you tell the story of sterile ball possession, of the defensive game that matters and of scoring even just one goal to win? It's our DNA 😄 Italian football has always given importance to substance more than brilliance.

However, the penalty given to Argentina against Poland, the penalty given to Portugal against Uruguay and Japan's goal just now cast a lot of shadows on this World Cup that you can't say is being refereed well.

I'm sorry for Uruguay because, in my opinion, they would have been a tougher opponent for Brazil xshrug

Congratulations to South Korea. I hope they prove me wrong and manage to get the better of Vinicius and his companions.

And now it's time to celebrate! :kr:xheya

This Trolltournament cant be taken seriously.
Now watch Cameroon qualifying tonight.
I think it's very entertaining that different countries are taking the spotlight for once, it's their time to shine. I was so tired of always seeing the same countries on top, almost like a monopoly.
