I prefer Maastricht. It's a host for three countries incl. Belgium and Germany. It is perfectly centered, many fans won't need airplanes. Not even me from Austria, it would be a 7h car ride. And if you need airplanes, international airports are close enough.

Never been to Maastricht, but it looks beautiful and I endorse the European spirit.

So, I have been to Rotterdam 6 years ago and I am not sure why fans are so excited about that city. It is very flat and windy and architecture is bleak. It's a concrete desert. The airport is also really small, so you can also just book your flights, if you need one to Brussels or Amsterdam and book a train ticket.

Amsterdam truly is a wonderful city but I totally get why they are not keen on more tourists. It already is overrun. And unlike Vienna, the city is not greedy for more.
I think Vienna also did not need Eurovision, because it is overrun. But then, Vienna propelled itself to the number 1 destination for LGBT in 2015, so I guess they were keen on that "reward". Graz or Linz would have been my choices, because they are lesser known and have bigger arenas, but probably not exciting places for LGBT.

But well, it is always interesting to have Eurovision not in the actual capital.

I want a big arena again. These last years it's become more and more difficult to get tickets for the actual show (yeah - I'm only looking for tickets to the finals, and maybe semis...). I am hoping a bigger arena like Rotterdam Ahoy would make it a little bit easier...

I fear that even if they did it in the Amsterdam Arena, tickets will sell out instantly because of the rarity of Eurovision in the Netherlands.

There are people out there in the Netherlands that are arguing that it shouldn't be in Maastricht because 'it is not part of the Netherlands'
????

Honestly of all the cities bidding for the hosting gig, Maastricht seems to be the most eager. They're dead serious and give everything in their power to get the job. I hope it pays off for them

Been like that for ages, jokes about Limburg being abroad, part of Belgium etc etc etc. Tiresome really.

I hope it's not Rotterdam. My dutch friend always mocks Eurovision once I bring it up, and he is gonna get it to HIS city?!

Welcome to the Netherlands. People here have been mocking Eurovision since forever and now that it comes to the Netherlands, everybody likes it all of a sudden.

I hope it will be in Maastricht only for those arrogant Dutchies who say Limburg is German/Belgian/third world country, etc. But I think Rotterdam would actually be the better option.

Tumblr, mostly.
I really don't understand why the Hollanders spit it out Limburg as much as they do. Literally 100% of the Dutch Limburgers I met (like 3) are hilarious, kindly and awesome people who speak in the most peculiar dialect ever. xheart. Limburgers are far from the worst Dutchies out there (exhibit A: they aren't from Holland.)

God I don't even dislike Hollanders (their inappropriate bluntness is often hilarious irl, especially in uptight, diplomatic Flanders), but they are the reason why the Dutch are the butt of many jokes, so, um, humble pie plz.

I don't get it why it was necessary to shortlist the candidates so soon.
What's wrong with Arnhem? They had a really good and suitable venue.

They'll leave it up to the cities themselves to publish why they aren't an option anymore. All they said is the 3 cities scored lower on "suitability of location, availability of accommodation and/or financial contribution". Arnhem might not have enough accommodation is my guess. I understood that even Rotterdam might struggle with that, but there's The Hague right next door so that's not an issue. Maastricht is in a tourist hotspot, the city and surrounding area has plenty.

It kinda bothers me that everyone is assuming the Maastricht venue isn't good enough for Eurovision while in the end it got shortlisted. Do people really think AVROTROS, NPO and NOS didn't ask the same questions to them before actually shortlist them? They promised a capacity for Eurovision of 12.000, and the ceiling is just 12 cm too low, which they discussed with AVROTROS before pursuing their bid

I really believe Maastricht can be an amazing Eurovision host city

MECC has a net height of only 12.5m. This means Tel Aviv's already tiny stage would not fit inside MECC. Its gross height might be 12 cm lower than the required height by the EBU, but its actual usable height would make it the lowest venue of this millennium.

They might be able to make something work, but why would they limit themselves like this if the other option is a venue like Ahoy?
