NPO visited Maastricht and MECC today and are positive about it. 'It is possible to organize a great Contest here', according to Sietse Bakker. 'The venue resembles the Kyiv and Tel Aviv venues in terms of height, depth and length.'
Tomorrow, they'll go to Rotterdam

They picked a beautiful day, Maastricht is a beautiful city but on a sunny summer day it's even more beautiful ;). That is if they even left MECC for a bite on in the city center hahaha.

I'm fine either way, we live 10 minutes from Maastricht but my in-laws all live in Rotterdam.

I was hoping for Arnhem, it would have been a great host city. Eurovision + history and a big stadium too!

But between the final two, I would go for Rotterdam. It is a big city and better connected internationally. I just have a feeling they are going to go for Maastricht though for symbolic reasons to do with the European project.

Hey, I've posted this on debanbloggs recently but since it's pretty long it might be worthy to be a post of its own too, so here we go.

You guys had probably get sick of me pushing Ahoy at literally all the time. So I'll try to put my 'analysis' on MECC.

Maastricht MECC's eligible option for hosting the stage is the South Hall with an area of 10.000 m2 and the height of 12,5 m. The North Hall can be used for the green room since its height in only 10 m, and the West Hall for the dressing rooms inf necessary. Considering that in the main hall we will have a big stage and logistics, a third of the centre would have been consumed on this alone. We are also going to have camera rigs installed and some satellite cameras if necessary, and also approximately 40 commentator booths. I'm unsure if the booths could be stacked like the ones in Tel Aviv, it could have eaten some additional space due to the lowness of the venue. That would leave possibilites of having 20.000 into probably 10.000 or less. They could add seats in the green room too, though, so total yield of spectators could have been 12.000 or less-

wait I forgot about the press centre. Might they use the big auditorium for this? and the Press Conference in the other auditorium?

I still think Ahoy is a more versatile option. Aside of the Arena, it also has six exhibition halls with a simmilar approximate area to the arena (Even the Hall 1 has an exactly similar build to MECC SH! (10.000and 12)). And these halls can be made into Press Centres, Press Conference room, Dressing Rooms, Foods n Goods Haul Centre, Registration centre, Green room!, etc. It also has its own conference rooms which can be made into the Press Conference room. Overall, Ahoy provides more space and more possibilities in transforming it into a Eurovision venue.

It's definitely gonna be Ahoy and Rotterdam let's be realistic, Rotterdam also has a great help in neighbouring big city, "The Hague". While Maastricht could have been fun, we all know since the start it would be one of the 4 big cities, and with Rotterdam you immediately have 2

In the end, the UK is the only country which had been part of 10 final shows without reaching a Top 10 placing at least once xD

And on average, only 11 countries benefitted from the last decade, those 11 being :cz::sm::bg::me::hu::by::lt::ro::se::ru:, with every other country ending up with a worse average placing following the decade.

Austria worse this decade than in the 00's? I don't buy it. Especially, with the introduction of semis in 2004 that totally dilutes average placings in the first decade. Worst possible rank was 24th or so until 2003. Then it was 37th, 39th and 43th.

Please God change your sig

The figures above were just with average placings. If we look at relative average position (i.e. last place in e.g. 1957 holds the same sway as in 2019), then there are only 25 countries that have improved over the last decade. The 11 mentioned above, and :be::dk::tr::at::nl::de::ba::cy::pt::ee::es::gr::fi:

Only 25`?? That's more than 50%. And that's what you'd get anyway. A half'll do better in the 20's, a half'll do worse.

The wait for the host city announcement is starting to leave me cold. Now I'm just hoping NPO would announce it ASAP.
