Yestersay, - 89:75
I was quite happy with the performance up to the 3rd quarter, when it was 70:45. It was surreal and I couldn't believe that we faced Serbia. Then Ivkovic ordered a pressing throughout the court, which Macedonia made couple of silly mistakes by not taking the ball out of their half on time. It was a great game and a victory that is making up for the previous two defeats, and it gives a chance to go to the next round. I was really amazed by one action by the Serbian players. One of their players, passed through McCalleb easily, passed it on and another player dunked the ball, like you would only see in NBA Playstation games. The next match is vs. and I am an optimist for that game.
Just a recap of what happened so far in the other groups:
A:
- Initially, I thought Israel will be the one to go through to the next round and that would end up 2nd. Will be kinda tough for them to go through now with Ukraine almost in and France and Belgium right behind them. I thought Ukraine will be last for some reason, with Belgium being 5th, but it doesn't look that way.
B:
Compared to group A, group B is completely opposite. It's the toughest group imo and everyone there has a victory and defeat already.
C:
I think Croatia traced its way to the next round. Their key match imo was against Georgia and they won that one. They need to win over Poland and Czech Rep to go through, but I don't think that will be a problem. Czechs still have a chance, but I don't think they can do it (not after they lost 60:39 to Spain, just now). Slovenia is doing really well and hopefully they will keep going that way in their group. Nice job Zmajceki!
Group D:
Another tough and interesting group. I knew Finland would do well, especially because 2 years ago, they were in an outsider position and they ended up third to go to the next round. Now that outsider position is for the Swedish team. Before the start, I said that the key game for Finland is to win over Turkey in the first round and they did that! A surprise for me is Italy doing so well, and Russiia so bad. Now Finland will need one more win to proceed. The biggest surprise for me was today. Sweden won over Russia with 81:62!!!
