group a
no big shocker at the leaders atm, but after yesterday - everything can happen. if Israel wins against Germany, France wins against Belgium and Ukraine - against UK, we have a shock qualifier - Israel.
group b
the group with loads of surprises, and everything could happen there too.
group c
Slovenia winning against Spain and Croatia winning against Slovenia were the most unexpected ones. and the qualifiers are obvious.
group d
the most obvious group with almost no surprises.

HAHAHAHA at group B. :'D
Ukraine won against UK, so they're in 2nd stage.

I just read this on wiki:

Slovenia can only be eliminated if they lose to Poland by more than 35 points AND Czech Republic beat Croatia by exactly 2 points.

THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS! :'D

Finland 86 - 77 Greece

I don't think anyone would've bet on Finland winning four out of five games and being second in group D. The media were reporting about us having to beat Russia in order to advance, because there's no chance we'll beat Greece. Few people over here cared when the tournament started, but now it's all over the media.

Woo! GO FINLAND! xcheer This might be tricky for us... I would've prefered if Greece had 2 pts in 2nd round, but eh. :D

YASSSS!!! WE MADE IT! I was so nervous throughout this match but it turned out to be our best game in this tournament. Next up we have Italy, our old customers in every sport. :'D

I'm glad I decided not to watch today's match of Lithuanians playing against BiH. From what I have read in my favourite basketball website, it seems the team was struggling during the whole match. To be honest, I was more optimistic before the championship begun. And now it seems that something is not right with the way we play. It's just not. :( I will keep my fingers crossed anyway and hope that we will improve and be much MUCH better in the second round otherwise we won't go very far with teams of opponents becoming more challenging to defeat.

Really, two cult teams Turkey and Russia have eliminated in first round, Finland has been qualified with a big surprise. And no surprise :D

Finland made to second group stage 2nd time in a row. :) It's a great improvement in their team. Turkey and Russia are.. dunno. I'm still confused.

We lost from :me: yesterday. Deserved, so congratulations to :me: They managed to beat us and in a triumphal way end their participation in this Eurobasket.

Generally, this match wasn't solving anything, so this defeat is not painful for us. Since :lt: and :lv: passed the group along with us (and we beated both of these teams), we will carry the maximum 4 points to the second round, just like :fr: .

The key players are rested (Stefan Markovic and Nenad Krstic and Nikola Kalinic in the second two halfs yesterday) and we played with approx. 40% of our total strength only. We are a young team who is osciallting and we need to save as much energy as possible for the second phase. Without these players, the defense didn't function at all, so :me: had a lot of easy points and even players who are strict shooters like Aleksa Popovic from the :me: team could do what they want under our racquet. Even with this "resting" type of play we had our chances but after a huge fall in the 3rd quarter we just couldn't catch up to :me: after their series of points (16-0), because there was not enough energy in the team and the motivation was not a high level. :me: wanted to win the last match, and they simply had bigger wish to win through the whole 40 minutes. They hit some hard shots in the end, and as I said, completely deserved this victory.

They generally have a good team and I expected much more from them, but I think that their coach Luka Pavicevic was actually the weakest spot. They had no play at all until yesterday's match and he definetly didn't use the maximum of what he had. Nikola Vucevic was below every expectation. Maybe it would've been better if Pekovic joined the team (although the play would be changed and it would be made for him, specially), but this team had capacity for much more.

As for our team, I am very glad how all this looks like, and if continue like this I believe we may hope to be in the fight for medals. There are several players who generally don't have quality for the national team like Andjusic, who is a totally incomplete player and except great shooting abilities he is weak in all other basketball parameters and Gagic as well (who is motivated and gives his best, but his play is extremely bad and he also makes a lot of unnecessary fouls. Yesterday he made two totally silly fouls, one as soon as the Montenegrin attack started and the second on a player who was turned with his back to the basket on 7 meters from it.....) but if they give their best like they did until now, I will respect that.

Tomorrow the 2nd round starts, and our first rival is :be: . Definetly a huge surprise and we musn't underestimate them, or we will have problems (:fr: was losing from them with +17 at one stage). I didn't watch them yet, but I know that the skeleton of their team comes from the best Belgian team :be: Spirou Basket. I will analyze them today.

First Bosnia defeated Macedonia with 62:54, and then Latvia did the same with 76:66. It was a disappointment, after winning over Serbia with a convincing point difference. Especially because Serbia is much better than Latvia or Bosnia, and they proved to be better than Lithuania as well. But you can't always win and win over all of them, so the end result is last place in the group. At least, higher ranking than Russia! Russia is an even bigger disappointment, because group D was kinda easier.
Group B ended up the same as Group C from 2 years ago. Latvia is this time playing Finland from 2 years ago, Serbia like Macedonia took maximum 4 points and was defeated from Montenegro. Group A is the easiest. I think that Latvia will even beat Belgium and Ukraine. All teams from group B were capable to show a good fight. Italy is a surprise for me. I didn't expect them to go through. I actually expected Finland to squeeze in. Some surprises definitely on this championship as well and it is good to see new teams making progress. :) Congrats to all who made it in the second round and fight hard for at least a 1/4-final!! :D

^^ I am sad that we will not see :mk: in the next round :( Generally, I think Pipan destroyed your team play that existed on the last championship. McCaleb is a top-class playmaker, and imo, the best playmaker in Europe, and he is certainly a player that makes the difference on the field, but I think :mk: was relying on him too much on this tournament, and basically when he was either stopped or lowered on a minimal number of points, :mk: would lose. What happened to the previous :mk: coach? He was a better expert than Pipan, IMO. You suffered the fate of our soccer team in 2010  We managed to defeat :de: but we got knocked out

I am also sad for :ba: :( They had a great chance against :lt: yesterday. They played a great match, and even though they needed a victory with +10 to pass, they had an advantage of +17. That is when they had to change the tactics. They also got scared of the victory. Even despite that great play the problems in the team were seen in the most critical period. There is a certain of indiscipline in their play, some players like Teletovic have too much freedom (even though he is the biggest star of the team and can score a great number of points, especially from the distance, he can also ruin it with various mistakes if the rivals, in basketball terms said, duplicate him), and they are building the basket very bad, so as result of that they can't control the rebounds. They should have changed the tactics to keep and defend the result, and kill the tempo of the match. They got scared of the victory, and a lot of attacks finished in a non-reasonable way, either with quick shots in the first seconds of the attack, or getting in some dead corners, or just soloing too much........ :lt: had a bit of luck too and that's it.

Aca Trica (The Bosnian coach) cried after the match :(

And Edin, the Bosnian commentator, is definetly the king  xrofl3

These were his best moments from yesterday:

Aww poor Aco, but there's a huge potential in :ba: so I think he should move on and come to the next Eurobasket even stronger. :)

^^ I died on that as well  I adore Edin, he is definetly the best basketball commentator in ex-yu and his columns are also very good. Many things can be learned from them.

Although, this Bosnian commentator is unbeatable

I am dying every time when I listen to him xrofl xrofl3  "Dzekoooooo Dzekooooo Dzekooo dijamantuuuu dijamantuuuu dijamantuuuuu" xrofl3

I agree! :ba: has a great potential and they have have shown it after the bad play in the first two rounds. They especially played well in the last 2 matches. There were those limiting factors though that I mentioned that sadly stopped from proceeding :( First, it is obvious that they don't believe in themselves because when they had the chance to get their first victory on the championship against :me: they started making ridiculous mistakes in the last minutes and they had a solid lead for that phase. They were sliding on the floor, losing the balls like nothing, throwing the balls to their rivals directly.........and generally play like "flies with no head". They managed to save the lead against :me: but not against :lt: . Yet again they were scared of the victory, and instead of killing the tempo of the match and trying to keep the difference going they yet again entered the panic cycles were the attacks were finishing after 3 seconds and often by Mirza's shots from the parking lot  If they played smarter in that period they would've passed. Also, Teletovic had too much freedom. He knows to score from positions like that, but he can also be like that cow that is struggling to give huge quantities of milk and once she does she outpours everything. And also, they are very bad in controling the rebounds. They needed a calm hand to catch the missed shots of :lt: team, but as they were all anxious they were either too slow to react, couldn't battle for better positions or just simply the ball slips through hands.............when the luck factor is added (and it wasn't on their side) this outcome is expected.

Too bad really, as I really like their team and Aco as the coach too, but I think they can do better next time. With these corrections that I mentioned.

I agree Milos, Pipan wasn't the person to lead this team. He had some great results with MZT and also in the preparation games (such as defeating Greece, Germany and Bosnia - picked a wrong time to do that ). Apparently, he does not address the players in an equal way. He yells a lot at the twins or Samardziski. I don't know. Macedonia played a game of their dreams against Serbia, but ended up playing as a zombie against Bosnia. :?
Dokuzovski didn't wanna lead the team and he got out after Eurobasket 2011. He wasn't even there for the Olympic Games qualifications. KFM didn't put effort to keep him or the condition trainer. xshrug

Funny thing, Aco Petrovic blamed Macedonia for Bosnia not qualifying. He said that Macedonia should have tried against Latvia. Well they tried and they failed. Anyway, that's an irony coming from a Bosnian coach. Congrats to Bosnia for winning 3 games though! :)

^^ Tbh, I didn't like how he coached MZT either (I think it is good that Vlada Vukoicic took over the team and I think with him, MZT can be a surprise in the next season's ABA League. They were close to final 4 in the end even with Pipan but now with these newest signings and Vukoicic as a coach, I believe we may see MZT battling for the final four). I dunno........he seems to me like who has good knowledge of basketball but doesn't show that a lot in practice. He has problems to compose the "harmony" in the team, and that is why it happens that some matches are played abnormally good and then the others unbelivably bad. Against :rs: you really played great, euphoric, a lot of shots got in, our defense didn't work and we were confused and apathical so a huge difference was created at the start and when the water gets inside one's ears, as they say, it's tough to play.........McCaleb also had almost 30 points in that match which says enough, and not to mention the other positive things he gave to his team. Too bad KFM didn't keep Dokuzovski as I think he would do a great job on this championship, much better than Pipan did now.

Also, Ivkovic made the same mistake on the last Eurobasket, he was treating Teodosic like his own child while he was yelling at everyone else, especially at Stefan Markovic, who always gives his best, while Teodosic could have done what he wanted, he didn't even listen to Ivkovic, and that created a chaos in the national team. In the key match against :gr: we saw players cursing each other on TV like "pusi kurac" or "jedi govna", etc.......for example, Paunic gets out and Teodosic laughs at him and tells him that he got out because he knows nothing and then Paunic replies "Pusi kurac govnaru jedan" etc...........also, on the field, Teodosic behaved like he is Derrick Rose. He didn't want to be a team player and wanted to score from all sorts of crazy positions, totally non-reasonable........and Duda had no streingh to tie him to the bench even though Teodosic f****d us all in the healthy brain with what he was showing.......Teodosic destroyed the previous generation, and I am glad we will not see him on this tournament!

I didn't know Aco said that. They didn't pass because of the things I mentioned above (both tactical and psychological). They gave their best and they have potential, but it needs to be worked more and harder.

OMG what is :lv: doing to :ua: currently...........

This is literally............raping in practice. 18+ only.

I don't know how :ua: had such score in the first phase, they look like they didn't train at least 3 weeks. Complete disaster and circus in every aspect.

This is the first time that I watched them on the tournament.
