Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

Pretty low to start a political discussion when you know it's inappropriate. Who other than Swedes are interested in how things should be rather than how it really is.

Well, I only explained to why it's so damn expensive and how come we have this image of being "green" but why they can't deliver what they preach about...

I already said I didn't want to dig any further into that, and I leave it with what I said.

OK, going to and from Herning to Copenhagen in a bus would be terrible indeed. :D Not really what I intended though. I've seen plenty of jokes already about delegations staying at Youth hostels bring their own linen and queuing to cook in the common kitchen or living in stapled worker barracks. My first reactions was: yeah so what? :D But really, it can't be that poor variety in reality? Anyway, why can't the delegations stay locally in Herning? I mean a big city is a big city, they are all pretty much the same. Personally I would jump for a bed at a local farmer rather than a hotel room, but that's me.

I'm not opposed to having the contest in a smaller city, Malmo was reasonable due to the close proximity to an International airport. However unfortunately Denmark's other cities are so far away from everyting it seems rather unreasonable to me. Germany's Duesseldorf is another example of how a "smaller" city can host the contest but I just don't see that happening in Denmark.

With Aalborg as the closest outsider, the unibet-odds are in huge favor of Herning and Copenhagen to host ESC 2014:

It'd only make sense to bet on the first 4 cities...Odense withdrew their bid and are now bidding on DMGP instead, and I really haven't heard the latter 5 being mentioned anywhere in relation to ESC.

oh PLEASE can you guys have it in Ronne?! pull a Baku on it and build a massive wasteful arena on the docks in Ronne. Bornholm 2014, can you imagine?!

I don't want another Millstreet Eurovision :?

What was wrong with it?

Wiki:
The location for this year's edition of the contest was unique, in that Millstreet, with a population at the time of just 1,500 people, was the smallest host town ever chosen for Eurovision, and indeed was the most remote. However, the venue, a large indoor well- equipped equestrian centre was deemed more than suitable as the location by RTÉ. With huge support from local and national authorities, plus several businesses in the region, the town's infrastructure was greatly enhanced in order to accommodate an event of this scale. It was also the largest outside broadcast ever attempted by state broadcaster RTÉ and was deemed a technical triumph for all involved. The stage was created by Alan Farquharson, who was also chief production designer two years later in Dublin.

BTW Rønne would truly be absolutely amazing given they have a arena big enough.

Eurovision is very major and important competition. That couldn't be hosted in Fredericia/Horsens/Herning or any other tiny city (anyway sorry). We have XXI century.

Well it is up to the host country to decide. A small show for 5.000 in Aalborg is not to exclude for the time being

I dont mind the show being held in a 15000 arena like Malmo, it was a fantastic show, one of the best ever. However, a 5000 show would be downgrading Eurovision way, WAY to much.

It will be very good change, if Denmark will host it in that prison that I've read recently somewhere that is bidding to host...!

Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

Finally! Some official statements from the head of entertainment about our hosting next year. Still no clues are given as to which city we're heading next year:

"But we need to make sure it doesn't become too big next year (compared to 2001 red.). That isn't our mission today. Irrespective of whether it will take place in Parken or another place in Denmark, we need to consider creating something more intimate"

"During the next week we will establish the framework for how the dialogue with the candidate cities will go. We will take all bids seriously and yes, there are of course other possibilities in the running than Parken in Copenhagen and Boxen in Herning"

"In Moscow and Baku a lot of it was about how much the organisers could present and promote the host country. But in Malmö we saw that it is possible to scale down the show and to get better TV out of it. The most important thing is that money is channelled to the right places - namely to what the viewers experience on stage"

I'm liking the sound of this. Even if intimacy is going to be the key-word, I can still se Parken being a strong contender as intimacy doesn't neccessarily mean it has to be small. And despite what he says I still don't see any other option than Copenhagen or Herning. Copenhagen has numorous alternatives to Parken, so I could easily see them having Forum or Ballerup Arena in the spotlight.

Horsen's bid is completely unrealistic as they're actually bidding to host it outside the prison, not inside. As far as I'm concerned EBU doesn't even allow outdoor venues so it's pretty much out of the question I guess.

Another thing talking against this idea is the danish weather which isn't exactly the most predictable...

Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

Could someone explained something to me ?

What's up with SVT, and now DR to think they will spend less money with a smaller arena.

I don't get the logic behind this, especially in countries where eurovision tickets were sold very fast ?

Okay, less rehearsals, only one host etc, but you still have to pay for the stage and lights, no matter what is the size of the arena. So shouldn't they go for Parken and gain maximun money for the show with the tickets ?

Gigantium's capacity is 8500 for concerts, so not as small as you're making it.

Well danish weather and all weather in general, that's global warming for you.
Anyway, it would be ridiculous to host it in an outside venue. Indeed the weather is completely unpredictable. Besides, how could they create a good show in a outside venue like the ones in inside venues the past few Eurovisions have had? That Horsens bid is the joke entry of the competition to decide who will be the host of 2014

Copenhagen would be the ideal choice also as I think all the other places are too far from Copenhagen and I'm not sure if there are any airports in the other places for the fans to travel to and hotels and stuff.

"The most important thing is that money is channelled to the right places - namely to what the viewers experience on stage". Spot on IMO. The fans have about 3,5 hour train/car drive/bus from Kastrup to Herning. Not something you would want to do regularly but not the end of the world either. Bruce Springsteen had a concert recently in Herning, sold out AFAIK.

Herning Airport? :D

Eurovision with arena's capacity less than 10,000 is farce. Eurovision Song Contest have least a one million fans around the world, and only 5-8 thousands places on audience ?

I really hope it will be held in Copenhagen. I mean for me it's not a must that the capital of a country is hostng Eurovision. Düsseldorf and Malmö were good, too. But Eurovision in a city with a population less than 50.000 :? I don't think that would be the right place for such a big event.
