Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

^^ No reason to be confusued, Herning is as much in it as they have been all the time. Those sites obviously has no idea what they're talking about.

It's has been claimed that Herning and Boxen "forgot" the Andre Rieu concert, which is also completely nonsense.

Already on May 21st, CEO of MCH (and Jyske Bank Boxen) said that the Rieu concert would be cancelled or moved if Herning is choosen.

Here's the article from the local paper (in Danish): MCH: Vi er klar til grandprix

And the part in question through Google Translate:

Article from May 21st 2013

Clears calendar

Jyske Bank Boxen will be busy for six weeks, if you get the Grand Prix. During this period André Rieu and his orchestra already on the poster.

- But if Herning is pointed to as the host city, so there will be room in the calendar, notes Georg Sørensen (the CEO).

[/confusion off]

Since it won't be Parken, they may as well go all the way and go for Horsens. It would be different at least. I still have concerns about Boxen.

Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

Randers has 60.000 habitants while Horsens has 55.000...it's hardly that big a difference. :p.

The four biggest cities; Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense or Aalborg would've been preferable options in terms of infrastructure, culture, nightlife, and hotel capacity, but since neither of them have any appropriate arenas I don't see why ESC should be held there at any cost. Copenhagen (and others) think they can rely on their name and location alone to host an event like ESC, so on the bright side I think it will be a bit of a wake-up call for "the big four" if Herning, a hard-working, provincial city in the middle of Jutland with 47.000 habitants, gets to host Europe's biggest TV-event.

Although I live in Aarhus now, I'm born and bred in Copenhagen, and even I can see that Herning and Horsens have by far the most competent and well thought out ideas for ESC 2014. Herning's got an incredible, top-modern arena and Horsen's got great location (very close to Aarhus) and possibly the most original idea for an ESC-hosting ever.

The only bid Copenhagen's got left now is a fucking tent!

To me this is a complete no-brainer...Horsens or Herning to host ESC 2014!

I so totaly agree with you rather let the audience and the artists sleep in a tent, than perform in one!!!!!

And by the why Herning has a big turist atraction the Arnborg ZOO.... who hasn't heard of Ismelda the famous got, who can tell the future by just stamping with her feet into the ground.......... amazing isn't it!!

Herning, we are ready

Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

I am still very hesitant about Herning's odds. Almost 50 000 tourists visited Malmo during the Eurovision week, how in god's name will they be able to provide accommodation for that many people? Malmo benefited from being super close to Copenhagen and Herning doesn't have that luxury. And logistics would be a nightmare for the 40 delegations having to travel hours and hours just to get to the city. If anyone has ever been to a live event of the contest will understand the magnitude. Things like the Euroclub, concerts, events....etc.

Now with the dates moved, I have zero idea what's going to happen though.

Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

After all, Herning will host in January the final draw of the Handball European Championships. So it's ready to host international events...

European Handball Championships had their finals in 2012 in Belgrade Arena (ESC 2008) and in 2008 in Lillehammer Haakons Hall (JESC 2004). So Herning seems logical !

BTW, the time chage seems to have been done not to move André Rieu's concert... (If I read what is written higher) I didn't know that André Rieu had so much influence... xrofl3

Exactly. That's why I think ESC 2014 should be in Copenhagen. Herning would make it more unconfortable travelling for hours and, especially, more expensive for the same reason.

+ I really like the whole concept of Copenhagen with the green thing and stuff. I think it's pretty innovative.

I have no problem with a smaller city hosting the venue but in this particular case it seems a bit unreasonable. I read a report on escxtra and Luke Fisher who went to see the Danish NF at that arena explained that the trains to that place are rather tiny...I'm just clueless on how this is going to work but if the broadcaster decides to go with Herning I'm really curious how they're going to make that happen. I mean I'll go regardless but I'm just so confused why this is considered a front runner.....

Depends on where you live. Travelling from north and central Sweden (e.g. Stockholm), Finland or Norway, Herning (via Gothenburg - Frederikshavn) by train or car is preferable (unless you fly to Kastrup). British could go by ferry to Holland or Esbjerg Denmark and further by car. Trains via Hamburg etc.

The idea to live in Copenhagen and travel every day to Herning isn't realistic BMO.

Herning is front runner, because Copenhagen doesn't have appropriate arena to offer for ESC, which is IMO a bit embarrasing. And DR's main job is to create great TV show, not to please tourists.

When do you think we will know where it is going to be held? I'm so desperate to know so I can put some sort of plans together to go next year :p

Actually the touristic aspect is quite significant. If they can't provide the accommodation (which is in the rules) that would disqualify them. But even if you don't consider the tourists, you also have to look at it from the delegation perspective. They come from all over the continent (and beyond)...imagine the additional travel costs and logistics for them.
I'm not saying it's not going to happen, there are just a lot of question marks that need to be addressed.

REgarding the front runner status, keep in mind that's only based on the odds. DR hasn't made a statement on their preference.

The thing is, Copenhagen's venues simply are not suitable at all.

Neither is Herning though, at least not at its current state.

But why aren't the venues in Copenhagen suitable? Parken Stadium wasn't the only option. The other options seem feasible.

Ah good so. From the researching I've done I would prefer if it was to be held in Copenhagen as it looks like a fairly easy place to get around :p

The capacity is just too low in the arena. And the tent...please.
