Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

Isn't it rather unconsidering to revert to the bigger-the better-thinking when it comes to Eurovision? A big arena only suits the hardcore fans, no one else is really benefits from it. Additionally the ridiculous expense race is going forward again. I can also imagine a regional dilemma where Jylland has a perfect arena, but still being abandoned when it really matters in favor of a "solution" in the capitol. Eurovision as an event isn't going to be better just because fans, press and delegations have comfortable hotels close to exciting nightlife in Copenhagen. Rather the opposite. :D

Instead I hope DR really tries to continue with minimized budget forcing the development of smart TV solutions. Eurovision would really boost Jylland and put it on the map. ESC partygoers may still have a good time.

I'm happy if Denmark won't follow SVT's "cheap is better" formula...

If they wanna spend, let them spend!... and while I agree with some of what you say, a bigger ESC also makes it possible for more fans to be able to enjoy it live... where a small arena is limiting the amount of audience and works in an excluding way.

Also, if they manage the acoustics and staging, then the impression of the TV will be even bigger with a large crowd than a small one.

Re: ESC 2014 in Denmark - where should we host it?

Yeah, it was awful.
In comparison, take a look at this video of the danish X-factor final 2011 that was also hosted in Parken:

So to draw conclusions from above I believe the key-factors of hosting ESC 2014 in Parken =

have a similar huge stage that gets more in touch with the audience + fixing whatever acoustic problems it might have + use half capacity (or less) for at least the two semi-finals = success!

Well, it does look a bit more promising indeed I must say (although I still hear a bit acoustic problem)...

I think SVT introducing a standing audience was a good thing, it makes it all seems so much more alive... I hope DR will follow in those footsteps.

Well, as I said, if they can manage a great stage, fix the acoustic problems, make a good camera work (which is a bit tougher in a big arena) and have a good solution for the public... and most importantly sell-out the tickets (I mean we don't want to make it look empty like in Moscow or Baku, then the whole idea with a big arena simply falls flat)... but yeah, if they can manage all those... then I also think Parken would be the best because ideally ESC should be big!!! (but yet functional and not empty looking!!!).

I believe you underestimte the financial situation of several countries. I've been talking to many delegations and a lot of them don't want to end up in Semi 1 cause that means they'll have to arrive earlier which costs them quite a big (hotel, food, travel etc) so imagine delegations and press having to pay all that money to get from Copenhagen to a small city which is hours away, they literally wouldn't be able to afford it.

Of course Copenhagen. I have nothing against that other city which I didn't even know before, but a 50.000 inhabitants town is really not enough for such an event like ESC.

I guess you have some experience of Denmark now and perhaps are familiar with the trains. To me most of Skåne and pretty much all of Denmark appears connected into a huge "subway" system. It's easy and fast to travel from the small towns into e.g. Malmö or Copenhagen and I assume many people do this every day. I doubt the cost for living and travel be different regardless where Eurovision is placed. I also believe it's likely they will organise acceptable living possibilities locally in Jylland. It's rather impracticable to travel all the way from Copenhagen.

Why is that? What possible impact will the size of the host city mean?

Fredericia now wants to join the club..... lets have the first Eurovision Open Air under the bridge...

Dear city of Copenhagen tell DR that they will have to pay for everything in Copenhagen and if they won't you can tell them that they can let Frederica host the competition instead

You do realize Frederecia has an arena, right? :p

It's Horsens who wanted an open-air ESC...right in front of the old prison where they usually hold concerts.

You can't use trains, the delegations will have to rent the buses which was already incredibly expensive going from Copenhagen to Malmo. So imagine doing the same thing from Copenhagen to places that are hours and hours from the International airport. It's not like two people travelling for fun; and think about the equipment, wardrobe, promotional material, cameras, makeup etc that they're brining along.

So I'm not clear how you can say the travel won't be any different.

And yes, I am familiar with the public transportation and it's freakin' expensive. Taking the train from Copenhagen to Malmo (roundtrip) is probably 30 Euros for a ten minute ride. It's the reason I only went to Copenhagen once.

With Aalborg as the closest outsider, the unibet-odds are in huge favor of Herning and Copenhagen to host ESC 2014:

It'd only make sense to bet on the first 4 cities...Odense withdrew their bid and are now bidding on DMGP instead, and I really haven't heard the latter 5 being mentioned anywhere in relation to ESC.

OK, going to and from Herning to Copenhagen in a bus would be terrible indeed. :D Not really what I intended though. I've seen plenty of jokes already about delegations staying at Youth hostels bring their own linen and queuing to cook in the common kitchen or living in stapled worker barracks. My first reactions was: yeah so what? :D But really, it can't be that poor variety in reality? Anyway, why can't the delegations stay locally in Herning? I mean a big city is a big city, they are all pretty much the same. Personally I would jump for a bed at a local farmer rather than a hotel room, but that's me.

I was shocked, I thought since it's all about being Green it would be less pricy.

Yes and that have also been suggested by some political parties. Wrong government and city rule (M and S).

Well, those are just nice words from our politicians = hypocrites xshrug

Considering Sweden throw alot of tax money in the sea (I won't even go into that discussion), they simply don't have much cash left to make the country better for the people (including subsidized public transportation for instance) xshrug

... and the most tragic-comical thing is that if our actual Green-Environmental Party would rule this country alone, we would become a third world country in a decade and there would not be even a single dime to spend on public transportation left

A-lister probably knows this better, but I think you pay the bridge fee. The bridge is supposed to be financed by itself you know (and it wasn't cheap ;)).

Yes... don't get me started on that...

And the fact that Stockholm once again wanted to punish us in Skåne to make it even MORE expensive... idiots!

Pretty low to start a political discussion when you know it's inappropriate. Who other than Swedes are interested in how things should be rather than how it really is.
