Honestly, I am 90% sure my village based grandfather (the one who got me so drunk I almost missed voting in Ema Freš, for those who remember :) ) has never seen a black person in person in his entire live. As much as I love him, he is super racist, "just because he sees stuff on TV". And a big part of our country with him. So from this point of view, Benny representing us is another great victory and a sign of things changing for the better here.
At the end of the day, we are not sending a vegan song as I'd hoped for, but we are sending a dark skinned vegan guy. As much as I think there were better songs in the selection, there is a big part of my heart that feels very very happy about this. :)
You actually gave me a reason to not feel disappointment anymore and maybe even support the entry a little. For the Czech republic and Eurovision it would be great if he did well. Diversity is always welcome, even though that also means that we sometimes have to #openup to things we don’t really enjoy.

But eurovision is not supposed to be like this. (When it is, i just roll my eyes) I don't care about his color or what kind of food he eats.
Racists won't change their minds just because some guy sang at eurovision.:(

I don't really want to pull a positive discrimination card, if people don't like his song, that's absolutely understandable. But if these facts make you feel somewhat better, than that's really great! :)

I 100% agree. I really don't want him gaining or losing points in the competition just because of the colour of his skin or his food.
However, I speak about a personal satisfaction that we are sending someone like him, because 10 years ago, this would have been in my opinion absolutely impossible.

Edit: True, we did send a gypsy band those 10 years ago... But Banga's group was an internal selection (and I dare say there's not many people happy with him representing us at that time, as much as I love Radek as a person), while Ben won the Czech televote.

I guess you're right. Btw your post reminded me of this video, & i wanted to share. Radek Banga is agreeing with you on racism.

Benny's song is a breath of fresh air for yhe competition. I'm pretty sure he can qualify and bring a high spot easily for Czech Republic. The only thing wrong about it is that he gives me strong douchebag energy.

I think it might take me a while to really get into this on a musical level, but I still hope it does well. It's interesting to see this kind of music (not sure if it's reggae, dancehall, reggaeton or something else, but I am both incredibly white and incredibly uncool, so feel free to point and laugh at my ignorance) represented at Eurovision, when so many countries insist on sending the most inoffensive ballads or something. I hope more countries will start sending something a bit different, by which I mean I hope the UK sends something memorable. I am not holding my breath.

I think young people don't care, but older people might have a problem with it. In 2002 the discussion about Sestre made it into a national parliament. And televoting results of Ema 2008 are still very fishy to me. (Gipsy group Langa was the favorite to win, but in the end, it didn't)

I know i'm mixing apples and oranges here, but let's assume that the same people who don't like drag queens and gypsies also don't like Afro-americans.

Meh. Really not crazy about "Kemama". if only it was the acoustic version, now that was better. At least it's not Olga or Karelll. What a waste of a otherwise promising NF. I guess it will do good, whatever.

Hmm..5 points.

Ohhh those days when EMA jury used to ruin chance to televoting faves with giving them big fat 0 every fuckin' single year in a row... :ROFLMAO:
I miss the old voting system in EMA so that can happen again.. :p

My love for Karrell was hopeless, but I thought Barbora would be an eligible alternative.

Kemama makes my head explode. It's so uncatchy. There is a chance that it would translate well on Eurovision stage, but for now it is a No from me.

Yeah, I know that year only televoting and Rebeka Dremelj (which entry i LOVEE, not teh dres in belgarde though  xgaah ) won by several votes..

But in previous years when jury and televotuing were, they couldn't agree AT ALL..
That system was inhumane to us fans and it's now burning in hell for all eternity

Very disappointing choice, especially given the fact that there were so many better alternatives, including two ballads that would definitely have swayed the juries. This song lacks variety, is very weak melodically, it's not particularly well produced, it really has just a single saving grace which is that it's going to stand out stylistically. Staging for songs like this is also very hard to pull off. Juries will simply ignore this, you're going to have to rely on the televotes. But yeah, the only votes you're going to be going for here is those who are adamant about voting for hip hop. If any other decent hip hop song is in the same semis it's just going to be game over for Czechia. In fact, I think it's just game over period.
