Re: Creating new contest on the forum

I'd support going for juries based on languages. That would cut the huge influx of world hits from English speaking world (which was the reason that i quit fsc quite early)

Agree! Great idea SpZ :)!! It would create a totally different contest, because if we work with countries, there will not be much difference, besides no WL or RoW. I find this the most interesting option though. And finding a name would be easy as well: Language Song Contest.

Most likely. Otherwise it would be quite impossible to send anything in Korean.

Yeah, that's mainly why I am asking it :) All of the Kpop songs have english words in them... it's popular there or something...
If that would be allowed then I am all for the language rule :)

No, in FSC song can be in any language

Well yeah, but if I would go for the French language jury, you can choose from Belgium, France, Switzerland, Canada, etc. It gives you more option and no French song would be excluded :D.

Language Song Contest
No, I'm against it. language may be one, and the music completely different (Brazil and Portugal, Spain and Mexico) It is better to introduce a rule to send the song in the native language of the country

Oh if you're going to do it languages based, so the main language(s) must be the dominant one in a song (aka at least 50% of the lyrics)

Yes, I agree

Having a language rule will mean loads of people will join the juries of USA/Canada/UK/Ireland/Australia #justsaying

Disagree with that one as that would exclude all songs for example which have 3 equal parts in 3 languages from being entered anywhere.

In Mexico they speak also Spanish (with mexicanismos). I don't see why they should be considered as seperate languages. They have the same language. French in Belgium, France and Canada is also completely different with many dialect words. SO that shouldn't be a problem.

Why would it be ROW?
Not necessarily, they could choose songs from any country as longs as it's French, if I'm understanding it correctly.

Yeah, that's what I though as well. It would create a clear difference between the existing contests.

Because if a person wants to represent their country (for example Chile), but can not do this in FSC (from ROW), here he will be able to do this (as well as his native language)
So in any case be based on countries

Where I would find issues with the language rule is when we look at languages that are really similar like Bosnian/Serbian/Montenegrin/Croatian. Would they be grouped together?

I see David's concern as well, that if this were to happen, the English jury might be over bloated. That would bring us to another issue, how many people do you guys expect to have in a jury?

Basically I am going ahead and say that the big languages, we are mainly speaking about English, Spanish, French and Portuguese here perhaps are really over represented in almost all the contests. I would all be for not having a song from USA or France every edition for example. Variety FTW!

And I have nothing against most of the mainstream international pop people joining forces and join the English/Spanish juries and decrease the amount of big international hits to only around 2 per edition.

It's not the same IMO, but I see where you're coming from.

If this contest were to happen, people will be representing languages rather than countries (well on the guise of countries). That's how I'm personally seeing it
