Very good voice, strong, clear, powerful!
BUT!
What kinda song is THAT??? This is soooo way over the top, so way tooooo much!
As I said, I like the idea of a man showing emotions, but a mid-thirty man praising his mother as if she was some godess or something. That is simply unbearable. In german I'd say "fremdschämen" for the emotion it launches in me. The only translation I found was "vicarious embarrassment" but I'm not sure if that is properly translated...

xcheer Danny's review of last night's show, witnessed live @ Sportpaleis Antwerpen! xcheer

So, when we arrived at the Sportpaleis, we went to find our seats. A nice lady showed us the way. So we made ourselves comfortable and this is where we were seated.

As you can see, we had great seats. Front view of the stage :D :D

The first song was performed by Yass. I never liked him, don't like him now either. He performed well, though. :D

After that, it was Sil's turn. One of my favorites. However, she looked really tired and her performance in the semi final was better. Nevertheless, she did well and received a nice round of applause!

After Sil, it was Udo's turn. Hot mess of the Belgian selection tbh. He sounded awful in the hall, especially his last note was cringeworthy. In fact, the whole song & choreography were cringeworthy!!!

And now... whenever the name "Bandits" was called, all fangirls started ovulating on the spot. I had tweeted "Those fangirls are giving me *f-word* migraine #eurosong #sportpaleis". It was even partially read after their performance

They were actually quite good, but I didn't want them to win... :?

Next up was Eva Jacobs who was a dangerous outsider. Her song is really good and she's an excellent vocalist. Perhaps she would've won with a stronger song where she could really belt it out, because I'm sure she has no problems with hitting high notes. ;)

I took a great pic of the pyro moment which was a wow-moment.

And now... Axel Hirsoux! He was truly AMAZING. The whole arena was quiet when he performed. When he started the refrain, spontaneous clapping & cheering erupted which added even more goosebumps than I already had!

When he finished, he received by far the biggest cheer of the night AND a standing ovation! The applause really lasted for quite some time!

It was just magic xheart

And then it was time for results & stuff. You all know how it ended

Everyone was cheering for Axel and I'm glad he won. I don't care about whatever result we'll get. I'm just SO proud of our entry!

Fier d'être Belge!

And also I'd like to add that I'm positively surprised with how supportive the whole crowd was for all artists and they were really enthusiastic :D

The VRT did a great job. Hopefully next Eurosong final will be here in Antwerp again :D

Oh, there's 1 thing that I forgot and that's important in why I think this has a chance at Victory in May:

The theme of the song ("my mother is my beacon, on her I can rely, I'm forever grateful" etc) is a very popular theme to the older generations of gays. This theme seems old-fashioned and weird (or creepy as some people said) to most younger people, but I think it will appeal older gays and I can see them vote massively for it. And the type of a song (an uberemotional, wailing ballad) will add to that.

Anyway, this is just my assessment. Maybe it turns out to be complete bogus xshrug.

It's nice to see that so many people (here and elsewhere) seem to really like our entry.

But I'm not gonna get my hopes up cuz I don't wanna be possibly disappointed in May

I don't think older gays votes would be enough to make it win. If it wins, that'd be a very very small part, if it even had any influence at all.

This guy has a great voice... unfortunately not such great song (thx to the VRT again)... don't think this'll be a winner, but I do hope it'll reach the final afterall.

According to my gut feeling, they will (like often) have a sizeable influence. Eurovision has always been an (extremely) popular event for gays.

But we'll see...

His singing abilities are unquestionable yeah, but this is too dramatic for my taste and I'm totally not into this kind of songs. Norwegian ballad is a light year ahead of this IMO. 4 points from me. :)

Well, this is corny as hell. It looks like morbid, in your face lyrics are a must in 2014 edition. It is so over dramatic that you get uneasy be the sheer untastefulness of it all. Where has subtlety in song writing gone FGS?
This is like Suus went horribly horribly wrong.

I'm not against a "horribly horribly wrong" 5th place, so thanks for the compliment !

I beg your pardon. Suus was magnificent and should have scored higher than 5th actually. This belongs in the semis. What's the part of the "gone wrong" that you don't understand? :geek:

Nothing. It was a sarcasm.
