Re: Balearica Island knows the power of the dark side (+ voting stats)

While I'd severely prefer the original Imperial March, this is good too.

I see your point, but you know me... Pretty much always preferring cover versions and remixes of pretty much everything. :p A bit surprised it hasn't been sent before tbh.

Re: Balearica Island goes Korean!

My first hosting ever is completed, and judging by the feedback, it went pretty well. :D Thanks for that. ;) I don't think I messed up anything, which is really all I hoped for. :D

So, good news and bad news for the DopeMonkeys. The bad news is that they became the first ::bal entry to finish last in a final. :( The good news is that despite of this, it was actually the second highest scoring PQ entry I've ever had. :D Only A Million Stars in NSC 71 scored more, all the others have scored less than 66 points, despite finishing higher. So it wasn't all bad. Thanks for all the points! :D A bit funny that it got more points from the last 6 voters (34 points), than the first 54 voters (32 points). :p

For the next edition, I'm trying a new country, Korea! But there are local reasons behind it. A friend of mine from Trondheim (Kim Hamang) started off as a hardstyle producer here in Trondheim, but moved to Korea a while ago, and is now working for the Areia Creations team, as a remixer of Kpop songs. Or arranger, as they call it. :) So far, he's made 15 remixes for Areia, and you can find all of them in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqwYqaZDqEm5JuRXLxFtMLzvnjzMwu8NB

So as you probably have guessed, I'm sending one of his remixes. My favorite is probably a hardstyle remix he made recently, but since I sent hardstyle last edition, I'm sending a different one, which is also great imo. The 205th Areia Kpop Remix, of EXID - Hot Pink:

Good luck Morty, I'm also going with a K-pop group but they're singing in Japanese. Let's see how it all works out

Thanks, and good luck to you too. :)

Paper & INK is also going with a Japanese song, which is pretty similar to my entry actually, Srivijaya & Sasentia is sending J-Rock, and I'll be surprised if Yaponesia doesn't send something Japanese as well now that they seem to be hosting, so I think 132 will be interesting. :)

I didnt liked the original, but the remix makes it definetely better. Good luck with it! :)

Thanks. :)

And I agree, I checked out the original after I had decided to go for this remix, and I didn't really like it either. Which imo makes Kim's remix even better, especially since he's kept some parts of the original. :D

Re: Balearica Island has no more regrets

So unfortunately, the Korean attempt didn't go very well, but with over 90 points combined from regular votes and reju, it could also have been a lot worse, so thanks for the points everyone, especially ::hal ::lla ::dlr ::qdq ::lac and ::pap for having it in your top 3. :D

For NSC 133, it's not been easy to pick an entry, I have SO much to choose from. But since it's been ages since the last time ::bal went metal, I've decided on a band that's been on my waiting list for years - Arch Enemy.

Picking a song from them wasn't easy either tho. Originally, I wanted to send them because I think female growling is pretty badass, and Angela Gossow did it really well. But, she stepped down as their vocalist in 2014, and Alissa White-Gluz took over, and she's also really good at it. So I've decided on one of the songs with Alissa for NSC 133, called No More Regrets:

Re: Balearica Island has no more regrets (+AATW :tr: entry)

A quick update, since there's a new spinoff coming up, AATW Turkey.

Initially, I had no idea what to send, but a quick search on Discogs changed that, as some familiar names popped up. DJ Quicksilver, Faruk Sabancı and Nurettin Çolak. Sending yet another full length trance song to an AATW spinoff was very tempting, but instead I decided to go for a guy I used to listen to a lot 15-20 years ago, DJ Quicksilver. I didn't even know he was Turkish until today. I almost went for "Planet Love", but in the end, my choice became a 2001 remake of Shaggy's old hit "Boombastic" from 1995.

So, the entry for ::bal in AATW :tr: is:

Re: Balearica Island is a million miles away from home

No luck with the latest entries. Arch Enemy finished 20th in the semi final, and DJ Quicksilver and Shaggy finished 20th in AATW Turkey. :/

For NSC 134, the ::bal entry has been on the waiting list since before NSC 100. In 103, INK held a secret NF on Balearica Island, where Dune - Rainbow To The Stars was picked as their entry. And I remember telling the INK delegation that I had plans to send Dune at some point too. So now, when INK has finally become a full nation in NSC, the time is perfect to send that entry. Dune - Million Miles From Home. :D

Hardcore Vibes! Also one of the great classics. :D
It was great to finally get to see Dune live at Defqon.1 in The Netherlands in 2011, played a lot of the old ones. :D

90ies forever :D

Re: Balearica Island is a million miles away from home

I still like Dune (alltough i only own the awesome Best of and Forever). From the tracks i know, Million Miles From Home became after years - and after i loved it pretty much - the Dune track i like the least... but yeah, that is still far away from a dislike ;)

My own fav is btw Dark Side of The Moon (piano vinyl mix) and is followed by Rainbow to The Stars (just counting the edm tracks).

Thanks for the tribute! ^^

Re: Balearica Island is a million miles away from home

A surprisingly good result for Dune, so again: Thank you to everyone who voted for it, both in the semi and in the final. :D

For next edition, I have a problem I've had many times before, I don't really know which song to pick. I have several I want to send, and I've been thinking about a Norwegian rap song, but because it has caused a bit of controversy, I think I want to wait a bit and see if it gets taken down or not. Want to avoid having my entry suddenly disappearing from the Internet... My other choices for NSC 135 are Norwegian heavy metal, Norwegian hardstyle or Italian EDM, so there's a bit of variation here. I'll probably send all of them in the upcoming editions, which kinda makes an NF pointless, the question is just who to pick first. :p

If it's just about the order you're sending them in, then I'd say let random.org be your friend.

Re: Balearica Island is a million miles away from home

I tried, but it gave me the rap song first, and I still fear it will be removed. But, after leaning towards the metal song, I've now started leaning towards the hardstyle, since I'm actually going to see that artist live in about a week. I'll give it a few more days tho, since I've changed my mind 3 times in the last hour. :p

All sound amazing except for the metal song (unless it's something like Kvelertak :D) but I would support the rap song the most, as I love rap and we usually get so little of this genre here :( (download it and in case it gets taken down, you can always reupload it to some safe site :p)

I wouldn't really compare the metal song to Kvelertak, but you'll be able to judge for yourself in a month or two. ;)
The rap song. Yes, downloading it is an option, but I have a YouTube playlist with ALL ::bal entries, so if it gets taken off YouTube, there will be a blank space in the playlist, and I'm a little too OCD to handle that. :p Which is why I want to see how the controversy goes. It's calmed down a bit tho, but I figure giving it about a month should be ok. It's been out for about 2 weeks now, but if nothing happens during the next week, I might actually go with it for 135 anyway...

Right now, the order is hardstyle, rap, metal, EDM, but that might still change, as this order will give me 3 Norwegian entries in a row... :p

You will definitely prefer the EDM entry, yes. ;) Especially since it's probably closer to italodance than anything else, but made in 2016. I'm not gonna rank them by preference tho, but I can rank them after how well I think they'll do: EDM - Metal - Hardstyle - Rap. That being said, I find it unlikely that any of them will qualify to a final, but I've been wrong about that so many times, so anything could happen.

What will help the EDM entry, is that it's not Norwegian, so I will most likely put it in between the others, to avoid 3 in a row from the same country. Not that it really matters tho. :p
