Re: Balearica Island is a slave to the music (NSC 140)

So I have no idea how Yeah! did, but I'm assuming something similar to the previous entries. And after much thinking, I have now finally decided on the next entry.

I grew up in the 90s, listening to eurodance. Twenty 4 Seven was one of many acts I really liked, and they're actually still going strong. Well, they released a new version of their biggest hit (Slave To The Music) in 2010, with a partially new lineup. Stay-C was part of the original lineup for the hit back in 1993, while Li-Ann joined for the new version in 2010. However, the 2010 version wasn't perfect in my opinion. German producer Jason Parker has taken care of that tho, as he has released a 2016 remix of the 2010 version, and that is the ::bal entry for NSC 140:

Re: Balearica Island goes Mongolian (NSC 141)

Time for another update. :)

The 2016 remix of Slave To The Music did about the same as the previous ::bal entries, which is disappointing, but not surprising. The surprises are when my entries do well tbh.

I also noticed I forgot to post a spinoff entry here. So for the first time, we entered a Robbery spinoff, and our assigned nation was ::rld. Going thru the list of former entries, I quickly realized I could have made it all really easy for myself, and just gone with Nightwish (sent in NSC 5). But, as I've also sent Nightwish to the NSC, that seemed a bit like cheating, so instead I eventually decided to go for Shaka Ponk (NSC 91), and my choice of song was Sex Ball. Didn't do too well either tho, but I don't regret anything. :)

The next NSC entry is one I've been planning for a while. ::nac 100 stuck with me, and I eventually found more of the artist's songs, after realizing he usually goes by the name of Ethnic Zorigoo. And then I discovered he even released a CD, which was only available from a Mongolian web store. So far so good. But the way Norwegian custom taxes work, with the shipping, it was just above the 350 NOK limit, for which I would have to pay 25% extra taxes, which didn't seem like an option. So I had to wait, and I waited almost a year for the Euro exchange rate to get below the limit again. And the plan was to send this song when the CD was ordered and had arrived. Which happened last week. :D And that means, the 96th ::bal entry is Ethnic Zorigoo - Zayan Navaa. I have no idea what that means, Google Translate can't translate it, but it's called "Buriad Folk Song", which I think is a typo for "burial". Either way, here is the song:

Re: Balearica Island goes Mongolian (NSC 141)

Buriad = Buryat i.e. it's a folk song of the people of Buryatia in Siberia. It's something to do with a conquest by Hulagu Khan which dates it to the mid-1200s or later originally, and also to do with mountains and rivers (two consistent themes in Mongolian music - conquest and nature covers 99% of all of their music). The main problem is the link between Hulagu and the Buryats as the main conquests of Hulagu were related to the creation of the Ilkhanate, in modern day Iran, Iraq and Syria. However, this is the best I could glean with no knowledge of Mongolian. I know some people so I can get back to you on that.

Oh, thanks! That means I was way off then. There is some stuff in the CD written in English, but there's a few typos, so I just assumed this was a typo as well. But I was wrong about that then. :p Thanks for the enlightenment. :)

You were robbed in Robbery 3 - loved that song!!

You were robbed in NSC 140 as well. :(

Thanks for the support, guys. :) And I can't disagree, I feel robbed quite often, but I've learned a long time ago that the majority of the people in this contest doesn't like the same music as me. Which is fine, this is a Eurovision forum, and the music I send is often pretty far from ESC music. But whenever people DO like the songs I send, I think that's awesome, even if it's just a few people. :)

Thing is I don't think NSC is very Eurovision at all any more. There's a distinct "NSC" style that quite a lot of people do crazy over and I hate, so I'm like you - I send what I like and if anyone enjoys it then that's fab! xup

No, I agree, NSC and ESC have very different music. But I think that to even become part of this forum, you have to be interested in ESC. Sure, people like different types of music, but the majority of the people who listen to the music I usually listen to, don't really care about ESC, and they won't join this forum. But none of that is going to change ::bal, there will still be music I like, no matter what people think about it. ;)

Re: Balearica Island goes Mongolian (NSC 141)

Update, here's some lyrics:

Zayan zayan zayalai Zayan navan minu ho Zayan navan hoyar minu Jaahanii min ayanga
Baidan baidan baitalai Baidan jigu minu ho Baidan jigu hoyar minu Bagahani minu ayanga

My source also told me it's possible this song is as old as 1,200 years.

Cool, thanks. :) 1200 years is old, but when you take away the electronic parts, it makes sense. It sounds like something that could be really old. :)

Re: Balearica Island goes to Russia (NSC 142)

After the result Zorigoo got for ::nac in NSC 100, I did have hopes of at least qualifying to the final with Zayan Navaa, but as usual, I wasn't even close. 39 points is the actual average score of my last 7 entries, all scoring between 31 and 44 points. Can we break the record of most consecutive DNQs? Only time will tell, but I hope not. :p

In the mean time, we've eventually picked our entry for NSC 142. After trying to show off Norway in NSC 115 (great success) and Mongolia in NSC 141 (less success), we're now gonna try to bridge the gap, and show off the mutual neighbour country Russia, as the video for the next entry is made up of drone videos across the old motherland.

Picking the song wasn't easy tho. I had already decided to send Little Big this edition, despite ::bif also sending them a few editions ago, but deciding on the song has taken me weeks. They have so many awesome videos, and the songs are great too. Their videos are usually pretty crazy, and I kinda wanted to show that, but that'll have to wait for a different time, and "Give Me Your Money" kinda already did the job there. But "Life In Da Trash" and "Hateful Love" were being considered for a long time, and could very well become Balearican entries in the future, but with my massive and continuously growing list of potential entries, it's hard to say when that could happen. But I hope it will happen. :)

The song I DID end up choosing is more of a hardstyle remake of Polyushko-polye, a song that was part of a Soviet symphony in 1934, and often performed by former ::rum artist, The Red Army Choir. It's not the crazy type of music or video that Little Big usually makes, but it is in my opinion a better song than those. So choosing it for the NSC is probably not a good idea, but we'll see. I've made up my mind, and Little Big - Polyushko Polye is the ::bal entry for NSC 142:

Kinda disappointed that you did not go with either Life In Da Trash or Hateful Love as those 2 are their best songs.

They are definitely more representative of what Little Big usually makes, and until my surprise qualification with my current entry, I actually thought they would be more fitting for NSC. It wasn't an easy choice tho. But like I wrote earlier, I'm not ruling out sending one of them (or both) in the future, but until that happens, you can always send them first. ;)

Well as of now they are an overused artist, so definitely not going to send them in the near future.

Well, they're not quite on Lady Gaga or Nightwish levels yet, so I can't say I agree tbh. :p However, I kinda see your point. I was thinking this was maybe a bit too close to their previous participation for ::bif, but I decided to not care about that. And, as I've sent Da Tweekaz 3 times, I have absolutely no problem sending Little Big a second time, but I'll probably give it a year or two. Unless they put out something even more awesome in the mean time.

I do feel "Life In Da Trash" would be perfect for ::tca tho. :p

Re: Balearica Island is falling (NSC 143)

So choosing it for the NSC is probably not a good idea, but we'll see

I guess it was. :D Thanks again to everyone who voted for it! xlove

As for the next entry, I had actually decided before the results of NSC 142, but with the unexpected PQ situation, I took a few extra days to think it thru. The thing is, I've sent vocal trance as a PQ before, in NSC 71, without any massive success. But on the other hand, none of my PQ entries have done well, the best result is a 24th (which was actually the trance in NSC 71), and I've sent hardstyle as a PQ 3 times, so... I decided NOT to change my original plan. :) My last PQ entry ended last, so it can't really go much worse tbh.

So, the next entry is a 9:21 long vocal trance beauty from 2009, which I had sort of forgotten about. But a few weeks ago, I saw Andy Duguid post on Facebook about some other old forgotten tracks he's made, which reminded me about this one. I will admit that 9:21 is a bit much, especially since a lot in this contest won't appreciate this song the way I do, but there was never made a radio edit of it. Won't be my longest entry ever tho, that's still Albuquerque. :D

The ::bal entry for NSC 143 comes from Scotland and England, it's Andy Duguid feat. Julie Thompson - Falling:

Re: Balearica Island shall suffer death (NSC 144)

9 minutes of beautiful trance went a little better than I feared. 26th place and 63 points is actually the second best PQ result for ::bal, so I really can't complain, even if I'd want to get out of that bottom 5 with a PQ entry at some point. Maybe next time, if there ever is a next time. :p

For the next entry, we're going in a competely different direction. Which is probably obvious when you see the thread title. :p I'm gonna explain this a bit tho. Back when I went to kindergarten, in the late 80s, we played games, like all kids do. One of the games we played was called "Bro, bro brille", and is known in the Scandinavian countries under various names. "London Bridge Is Falling Down" is similar as a game, but has a completely different melody. Fast forward to December last year. I'm not really into MMA fighting, but Trondheim based MMA fighter Emil "Valhalla" Meek joined UFC last year, and Autokarma's song "Fare, Fare Krigsmann" was the song that was played when he entered the arena. This song is based on that old game I played in kindergarten. And because the song is pretty good, and brings back memories from my youth, I've chosen this as my 99th entry to the NSC. And here it is:
