Re: Balearica Island gets down

::bal has decided! :D

Since I haven't changed my mind in days, the next entry has been decided. Da Tweekaz will become the first artist to represent ::bal 3 times in the NSC. It was a matter of "when" tho, and now is the time. Get Down isn't the latest song they've released, but it's been on my list of entries since August last year, and it is in my opinion not just one of Da Tweekaz' best tracks, but also one of the best hardstyle tracks ever. The hardstyle community these days is very torn between the subgenres "raw" and "euphoric", and which of them is the best, and altho this is closer to euphoric, it's really neither. This is simply hardstyle, the way it SHOULD be. In my opinion, that is. :p
I can add that the DopeMonkeys track I sent is one of very few raw tracks I actually like, which might be because DopeMonkeys are not actually raw artists, they don't stick to just one genre.

I've seen Da Tweekaz play live 6 times since 2009 (3 times in 2014), and this Saturday, I will see them again at Hardstyle DNA in Oslo, and that's why I decided to go with Get Down for this upcoming NSC edition. Here it is:

Re: Balearica Island remains insane (136)

So ESC is pretty much over, and there were no surprises really on how Da Tweekaz did in NSC 135, I've sent them 3 times to NSC, and the best result is still the 15th place they got in NSC 62. Get Down actually got the least amount of points of the three... Disappointing, but pretty much expected. :p

For NSC 136, it's gonna be metal, even tho it's only been 3 editions since we sent Arch Enemy, which got a very similar result to Da Tweekaz, so I guess you can imagine what my expectations are. Anyway, this next song is sort of from Facebook. I follow a few politicians on there, and as it turns out, one of them has a son who fronts a metal band. And it sounds pretty awesome imo. :D It's pretty local as well, from the same part of Norway as me, but metal is pretty popular around here, so that's not really surprising. :)

So here it is, Sandberg - The Nightmare Remains Insane

Re: Balearica Island remains insane (136)

Just a small update. I realized that Da Tweekaz - Get Down was both ::bal 90th entry, but also the song representing ::bal in the 50th edition in a row, as the last edition we skipped was NSC 85. Pretty satisfied with that. :)

Also, not long ago, I noticed a new remix of an old ::bal entry, and since it seems unlikely that I'll ever get to enter it to a covers and remixes spinoff (I already have too many of those entries waiting), I figured I'd post it here (where very few will see it). Propaganda - Super Detka was released in 2004, represented ::bal in NSC 111, and now there's a "2016 Extended" version of it (altho it was uploaded in 2015):

Re: Balearica Island has an attitude problem (137)

Can't say I'm surprised about Sandberg's result. Maybe a little disappointed, but most of my entries recently have ended around 20th in the semi, and it was pretty much what I expected. Happy that some liked it tho. :)

So how will the next one do? This is pretty different from my previous entries. It's the first ::bal entry with Norwegian lyrics since NSC 115, and from what I can see, only the fourth ever. But it's also the third entry in a row from Norwegian artists, which is a first for me. I've said many times how I dislike hiphop, so with that in mind, it's also a little surprising that I send hiphop. Not only that, but I'm not really a fan of Karpe Diem either, and I think most of the stuff they've released (especially recently) is... Well, sh*t. But I still checked out the video for this when it came out for some reason, and to my surprise, I actually liked it. Not only that, I thought it was great. So it gets a chance in the contest because of that. There's a break in the middle for some reason, which is a bit annoying, but at least there are Swedish subtitles to that part, so I guess all is good.

This song caused a lot of drama tho, because of one word in the lyrics. They list a bunch of words that sometimes are used as insults, and specifically said that these words weren't meant as insults. The word "jew" was one of them, and a Jewish Karpe Diem fan got offended. The point KD tried to make was that they didn't mean jews when they talked about Ariel Sharon, they meant Ariel Sharon (and they don't like him), but that part was lost to a lot of people. Also, they were trying to make a point out of how things get taken out of context in the comment sections everywhere, and that's exactly what happened. It's all cooled down now tho, and the video didn't get taken off the Internet like I feared for a while, so I figure it should be safe to send it to the NSC now, without fearing a blank space in the Balearica Island YouTube Playlist. :)

Here it is:

Re: Balearica Island needs YOUR help

Ok, I'm gonna need some help here. I've asked a couple of friends, who's into this type of music, but since I haven't gotten any feedback from either of them, I need to go public with this.

Eiffel65 has recently released a new song, called Panico. This song is going to be our entry for NSC 138, but there are 2 versions of it, and I can't decide which one is better. There's also an English version of it, called Critical, but it's not on YouTube, so that's not an option. And I kinda want an Italian entry anyway.

So here are the versions, the Rough Mix Demo Version, which was released in April, and an Official Live Video, released in June.

So the question is, which of these should be the ::bal entry for NSC 138?

Help...

Eiffel 65 is back .....this song reminds me to "Cosa Resterà" and a great summer 2002 in italy.
"Cosa Restera" and "Welcome to my Life"were everywhere :D :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdoZcPD2Fd8

I grew up in the wrong country, Italy sounds awesome! Only "Blue" and "Move Your Body" became famous in Norway of Eiffel 65's songs, but I don't think they were taken too seriously because of the music videos with Zorotl. I liked them tho. :) There were other italodance songs that did make it on to the charts and compilations here, but Hotel Saint George is pretty much completely unknown around here. Sad really, they have many great songs, and I've been trying to find their album on CD, but it's really rare. I have a list of classic italodance songs that I consider sending to NSC at some point, and "Welcome To My Life" is on that list, together with about 50 others. But it's really hard to pick just one, the entire genre is full of gold. :D

When it comes to Eiffel 65, I knew they were still around, DJing and doing concerts. Mainly in Italy, just like Gigi D'Agostino, but I saw them on a 90's event in Norway a few years ago. Sadly, they only played 3 songs (the 2 obvious ones, and "Too Much Of Heaven"), but at least I got to see them. Would still really love to see them do a full gig, but I think I'll have to do some traveling to make that happen. It's great that they've started releasing new music again tho, "Panico" is great, so they haven't lost their touch, so I hope there will be more to come. :)

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Awww so nostalgic xheart
I think I prefer the official version, I mean, admittedly, I can't hear much of a difference  But the official version is more professional and complete as a whole so that one

I'm gonna assume Eiffel 65 is the nostalgic part here, since "Panico" is a new song. :p And yeah, I always get a smile when I hear about them, or one of their songs, I've been a huge fan of them since they released "Blue". So happy they're back at it again. :D

There isn't much of a difference for me either, but the order of the verses and choruses and stuff is different, as well as some other details. My problem is that I'd listened to the Rough Mix for 2 months until the official one came, and as I had already decided that Panico would be an entry, I've been trying to find differences in the official version, instead of just enjoying it like the other one. Annoying tbh. :p

Thanks for the feedback. :)

What I do know, is that I definitely prefer the lyric video. The live video isn't really synced with the music at all, and I also like lyric videos. But this isn't a music video contest, so I don't know if I should let that influence me tbh...

It's 3-1 to the Rough Mix tho (2 opinions here, one on PM, and mine), but I'll decide tomorrow, so there's still time for more opinions. :)

Re: Balearica Island needs YOUR help

There is not much difference between them like its already told... but i go with the official version because it sounds a bit more diversified to me.

I love Blue, it is three times in my playlist ^^

Once from Eiffel 65 itself
Once as a pretty strange orchestral coverversion from german singer Max Raabe [Link]
Once as background in a mashup (Eiffel 65 feat. Daisy Dee - Blue Riffin) [Link]

If you dont know the third: i think you would like it.

Yes, they sound quite similar-ish to me as well. If I were you, I’d go with the final version because it just sounds more “complete” to me in a way. (:

I knew the version from Max Raabe (and it's great), but I haven't heard the mashup before. Good stuff. :D

And that reminds me, Sandra Lyng just released what is more of a tribute to Blue: [Link]

So this means we're at 3-3... I was hoping one of them would stand out, so right now I'm back at the starting line...

Re: Balearica Island - Hate Is The Way spinoff entry

Finally time for another ::bal spinoff entry, this time it's the "Hate Is The Way" spinoff in Vreneli's Gärtli, Papendink.

And rather than focus on the points system that will eventually decide the winner, we have decided to go for an entry that fits the name of the spinoff, with a song about Donald Trump. I honestly don't know whether this song is actually meant as support for him, or whether it's a song that aims to mock him, but I suppose that depends on whether you like him or not. I personally hate him, so for me, this song mocks him. The song is actually a fan-made mix of Five Finger Death Punch's song "Jekyll And Hyde", but I have no idea who made it. What I do know, is that one of the members of 5FDP is a Trump supporter, and that makes me question whether I want to be a fan of them or not, but their music is great, so I'll let that slide for now. Either way, here is the song:

Re: Balearica Island - NSC 139?

As expected, the Trump song got some hate, but surprisingly, it also got some love. Not a good result overall tho, but an expected one.

For NSC 139, I was actually going to sit out for the first time since NSC 85, because I'm going away on holiday for a couple of weeks, and my computer died a couple of days ago, so I need to buy/build a new one. Figured adding NSC to all of that would be difficult. NSC 85 was the only edition a different nation than ::bal sent hardstyle to the contest, that i know of. DJ Phil Ty - A Kay A, from Öösingimaed. But, since Biflovatia is now sending Coone to NSC 139, I have no choice but to join this edition as well, I can't let another hardstyle entry go unnoticed by Balearica Island. Nowhere near deciding on an entry on my own yet tho, but I have a lot to choose from, so I'll let you know when I've decided on something. :)

Re: Balearica Island says Yeah! in NSC 139

How I could mess up the A Kay A nation is really impossible to understand. Should be laws against this tbh, I'm shocked!

Anyway, from one mistake to another, I've decided on my next entry. :) Back in my college days, which is now a decade ago (yes, I feel old), I was completely hooked on a remix of Usher's hit Yeah!. It was simply amazing how great I thought this remix was, considering how much I disliked the original. And none of that has changed much tbh. Speedbreaker is a German producer who's made a few remixes, but as far as I know, his remix of Yeah! was never officially released anywhere. A shame really, because it's awesome, at least if you can hear the bass. Laptop speakers don't do it justice tbh. So, the ::bal entry for NSC 139 is Usher feat. Ludacris & Lil' Jon - Yeah! (Speedbreaker Remix):
