Really? :eek:
Which one isn't blocked? I'm kinda guessing the Luis song, since I don't think that's on any labels...

Thanks for voting so far guys, this is great. :D

And since we're on a new page here, here's the NF again:

Ok, here we go, for the first time in Balearican history, we're having an NF to decide our next entry. And here are the entries:

DJ Paul Elstak & Mental Theo feat. Gin Dutch - Raving Beats
Happy hardcore was pretty popular in the late 90s, but it kinda died around the time of the new millennium. Paul Elstak and Mental Theo didn't get the memo (which is strange, as they were both very popular in the genre), and they've brought the genre back. A brand new happy hardcore tune, with the 90's sound:

Anders Nilsen - Salsa Tequila
This year's summer hit, according to the artist himself. And it has all the ingredients: Accordion, lyric video, and saxophone, and even Spanish lyrics! And a decent house sound. The fact that Anders Nilsen, who's Norwegian, doesn't speak Spanish isn't that important in this matter:

MaVe - Monster
Another Norwegian tune here. Very different from Anders Nilsen, this is dark trap-dubstep, and despite being Norwegian, it's also been given a nice video. And I don't really mind a violent woman. ;)

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Word Crimes
The fact that this guy is still going on is pretty amazing. He's represented us in NSC before, and he released his first single in 1979. Personally, I thought he might have been over his prime now, but no. This week, he's releasing a number of new songs and videos, and this one is pretty funny. And educational, there are many who could learn a thing or two from this one... The database isn't working for me right now, so there is a chance this one might be disqualified, as it's a parody of Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines. I don't know if that one has already been entered in NSC. So, if it has, let me know, and if Word Crimes win this NF, I'll go with the runner-up instead. :)

Tom Rosenthal - Hey Luis Don't Bite Me
Not a very Balearican track, but as you've all probably heard, Luis Suarez went a bit crazy during the World Cup in Brazil recently. As a Manchester United fan, I can't help but find this funny. Good luck Barcelona, you just made me a fan of Real Madrid by buying him. And I don't hate Liverpool quite as much as I used to. Here's an ode to Mr. Suarez:

Ok, I think that's it. Our very first NF has 5 songs. Now I hope someone will see this, and maybe even vote. It would be a historical moment. :D

Vote by PM (to me, obviously), and use these points when voting: :10: :7: :5: :3: :1:
Deadline will be on Tuesday, at 21 CET. :)

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF!

Seriously, what is up with Germany and its over-zealous YouTube blocking? :lol:

Constant bitchfights between Google (aka YouTube) and the GEMA, the "Society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights", which represents a lot of national or international artists/lyricists/composers on the German market and manages the German reproduction rights for music. By their logic, every person who watches YouTube MVs won't pay for the music provided for free on YT, which will eventually lead to the artists' poverty, bankruption, closing of record labels and whatnot :lol: It doesn't take a genius to figure this is rubbish basically. Now, the GEMA constantly puts pressure on YT to give them small revenue from every click on an MV, which leads to never-ending legal processes which are sometimes won by one side, sometimes by the other.

The most ridiculous thing about it is that many of the blocked videos have been uploaded by the artists themselves or their respective record labels. Take a second to think about it. Does it sound childish? It is.

There are however plenty of ways to avoid blocking, such as special browser add-ons which do a fairly good job, proxies, or even Vimeo and Dailymotion (which strangely don't seem to have those problems at all). It's quite an easy thing to cope with. And if all should fail, there are still Luki's MP3s (which are fantastic in every way).

Really? :eek:

That's very surprising! :eek: I guess GEMA hasn't found out about it yet then... I'm pretty surprised Tom Rosenthal is blocked too, I thought he was just making that for fun. But then again, from what I've heard, GEMA isn't familiar with the word "fun". I'm following a lot of music pruducers on Facebook, and many of them also post separate links for their German fans, so that they can enjoy the music as well. It tells me copyright laws have gone way too far, when even the artists find ways to get by GEMA, who is supposed to be protecting the artist's rights...

I also have a playlist on YouTube, with all the ::bal entries, and country restrictions also apply to one of the songs there, which is only available in Belgium and Luxembourg. Pretty annoying stuff, but at least GEMA isn't involved in that one (altho they probably would be if EMI hadn't blocked it in 99.9% of the world already).

Thanks to everyone who's voted so far, there are already more voters than I dared to hope for. :D

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF!

Judging from the tastes of the other voters so far, I fear for the chances of my favourite :(

*runs off to find some Pot 1 allies to balance things out :lol: *

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF!

Well, without spoiling too much, I can say that one of the songs is starting to run away a bit, but that can change with just one more voter, so it's not a massive lead yet. ;)

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF!

We have another voter, which makes it 7 in total now :eek: (check the original NF post for the list of voters), and things are getting quite even in the top, with just 4 points separating the top 2. The deadline is now about 25 hours away, so if you want to be part of history, and vote in the very first (and who knows, it might be the last) Balearican NF, then now is the time to do it. ;)

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF!

Because it's so tight in the top of the results list right now, I'm extending the deadline until tomorrow. Still 21 CET tho. :) Results will be announced shortly after the deadline.

Re: Balearica Island - NF results

And here are the results of the first Balearican NF:

In 5th place, with 33 points, the Norwegian monster MaVe. This song was last during the entire NF.

In 4th place, with 37 points, raving beats from DJ Paul Elstak & Mental Theo. This song got the most 1's.

In 3rd place, with 51 points, "Weird Al"'s Word Crimes vendetta. Had a good chance at winning, and was only 4 points behind the leader after 8 voters.

In 2nd place, with 53 points, an ode to Mr Suarez from Tom Rosenthal. I never expected this song to be fighting for the win in this NF, but this song was actually in the lead after 8 voters. :eek:

So that means, the winner of the very first NF, and the first ::bal entry to be decided by the community, is the Salsa Tequila combination from Anders Nilsen!!! This song got the most 10's, as 5 of 9 voters had it as their favorite, and it was in the lead for almost the entire NF. The opinions were mixed tho, as the rest of the voters only gave it 10 points combined, giving it a total of 60 points.

Thanks to everyone who voted:
::moi
::zom
::doi
::rum
::rld
Artyomka
::cyd
::ans
::fer

:D

I'm not ruling out that one or two of the other songs could end up as an entry in the near future as well tho. ;)
