Re: Balearica Island is talking about...

I had a bit of a feeling that Babymetal was something people would either love or hate. The votes suggest I had a point, as most of the people voting for this song, gave high points. :D The first 11th place for ::bal, and only 1 point from qualifying. It had to happen, I guess. :p

For NSC 108, I wasn't really sure what to send, despite having lots of entries waiting. However, earlier this week, there was an article in the local newspaper here in Trondheim, about Mr. Lemon, an artist from Trondheim making "dance music". I'd call it electro house, but like I've done with AutoLaser, I want to promote local artists that make music I think is pretty good (as there aren't that many of them), so the next Balearican entry is Mr. Lemon & Albert Kick - Talking About. Enjoy. :)

Albert Kick is btw Spanish (or Catalan, to be exact).

Re: Balearica Island lifts you up

I have too many songs to choose from on my entry list, and it's not getting any easier to pick from it, but I think I've made a choice for our next entry. No NF this time either... It's gonna be metal again, but this is the last metal song on the list, at least for now. This could change at any moment tho. :p

The 2 last entries were pretty spontaneous, but this entry has been under consideration for a while, and I figure now is the time for some American heavy metal, mixed with a British heavy metal legend (Rob Halford from Judas Priest). The entry is:

Five Finger Death Punch feat. Rob Halford - Lift Me Up

Re: Balearica Island lifts you up

Why would you do that? Is MF metal a bad thing? :p

There's very far between the really awesome songs in MF, in all genres. They make songs to fit MF, rather than send really good songs. So even metal is very watered down, to please as many viewers as possible. But fortunately, I'm not hearing any MF in this one, and I kinda hope no one else does either. :p

If it helps, the metal songs from MF are some of the only metal songs that I can stand to listen to! So everyone's a winner! ;)

No signs of MF in this for me, either. :D

I love the voice of the singer. xheart

Re: Balearica Island is a bully

That was surprising. As all except one of our previous rock/metal entries failed to qualify, I didn't have much hope for Lift Me Up. Still a bit shocked about finishing 3rd in the semi final. And it finished higher in the final than I expected as well, even if we got a good start with some early 12s. Almost 100 points is pretty nice, so thanks to everyone for the points! :D

For NSC 110, we're once again going in a very different direction. Most people who know me, also know that I pretty much hate hiphop. Which is true, but there are a few exceptions. Eminem is one of them. The track chosen to represent us in NSC 110 is a very little known track called "Bully", released in 2003, but it never made it to any official albums or singles. So here it is, Eminem - Bully:

Also, Balearica Island might have to sit out on NSC 111. I'm going on a roadtrip to The Netherlands in the end of June and beginning of July, and I might not make it back in time to vote in the semi final. It depends on how long NSC 110 lasts...

Re: Balearica Island goes русский

As you might have noticed, Balearica Island didn't skip NSC 111 after all. Fortunate timing means we'll be able to vote in the semi finals of this edition after all. :)

Just like our NSC 106 entry, we're going to Russia, but there's a story behind this entry: I've always been a fan of Flash loop videos, like Weebls Badgers song (and others they've made), the amazing horse, Loituma girl, and so on. Several years ago, I stumbled across a different one, which you can find here: Psix.swf (loop)

I love it. :D But it took me many years to find out what song it was. Now it's in the comments on that flash video, and I think that's where I eventually found out about it as well. And as you've probably understood by now, that song is our entry for NSC 111, it's Propaganda - Super Detka (or Пропаганда - Супер Детка in Russian):

Hahaaaa, bizarre background to how you were introduced to this song, but nice to know. The music video for this is almost like a Russian boy's wet dream in the late 80s/early 90s

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF?

This is just a small teaser, as I haven't really decided, but I've heard quite a few songs lately that I've considered as possible entries, so I think I'll have to do a NF this time. I'll get back to you on this tomorrow. :)

Re: Balearica Island - first ever NF!

Ok, here we go, for the first time in Balearican history, we're having an NF to decide our next entry. And here are the entries:

DJ Paul Elstak & Mental Theo feat. Gin Dutch - Raving Beats
Happy hardcore was pretty popular in the late 90s, but it kinda died around the time of the new millennium. Paul Elstak and Mental Theo didn't get the memo (which is strange, as they were both very popular in the genre), and they've brought the genre back. A brand new happy hardcore tune, with the 90's sound:

Anders Nilsen - Salsa Tequila
This year's summer hit, according to the artist himself. And it has all the ingredients: Accordion, lyric video, and saxophone, and even Spanish lyrics! And a decent house sound. The fact that Anders Nilsen, who's Norwegian, doesn't speak Spanish isn't that important in this matter:

MaVe - Monster
Another Norwegian tune here. Very different from Anders Nilsen, this is dark trap-dubstep, and despite being Norwegian, it's also been given a nice video. And I don't really mind a violent woman. ;)

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Word Crimes
The fact that this guy is still going on is pretty amazing. He's represented us in NSC before, and he released his first single in 1979. Personally, I thought he might have been over his prime now, but no. This week, he's releasing a number of new songs and videos, and this one is pretty funny. And educational, there are many who could learn a thing or two from this one... The database isn't working for me right now, so there is a chance this one might be disqualified, as it's a parody of Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines. I don't know if that one has already been entered in NSC. So, if it has, let me know, and if Word Crimes win this NF, I'll go with the runner-up instead. :)

Tom Rosenthal - Hey Luis Don't Bite Me
Not a very Balearican track, but as you've all probably heard, Luis Suarez went a bit crazy during the World Cup in Brazil recently. As a Manchester United fan, I can't help but find this funny. Good luck Barcelona, you just made me a fan of Real Madrid by buying him. And I don't hate Liverpool quite as much as I used to. Here's an ode to Mr. Suarez:

Ok, I think that's it. Our very first NF has 5 songs. Now I hope someone will see this, and maybe even vote. It would be a historical moment. :D

Vote by PM (to me, obviously), and use these points when voting: :10: :7: :5: :3: :1:
Deadline will be on Tuesday, at 21 CET. :)

I was thinking about sending Weird Al's Lorde parody "Foil" to this edition  I went for something else in the end.

I've heard that one too, and it's pretty funny. But I dislike his use of the word aluminum (which IMO is a word crime)...

In other news, we have a new voter. :D Hoping I can get the number of voters up to somewhere between 5 and 10 by the deadline. :)
