Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Why do people keep inviting a competing countries HoD to their NFs :'D Or more over, why always him. I had forgot he existed in this part of the year when ESC dies down.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Courtney's song sounds like a typical pride anthem but I didn't expect anything else from her))
Not my thing, but I'll be the 1st in line to lust after visuals  xlove

I'm wondering about the next bunch of performers

Leea seems interesting. Having had time to listen to Courtney's song, but as a performer, she doesn't interest me. Not a huge drag queen fan.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Just listened through some of the more popular / recent songs from the seven performers announced so far (except for Courtney, who's released the actual song).

Most of the artists seem to just do varying flavours of bland midtempo pop and stuff, at least as far as their backlogs go. It's a decent selection of names, and some have good vocals, but I'm hoping they're paired with more interesting songs than their usual fare for the NF.

Two artists interest me a little more, though. I'm looking forward to seeing what we get from Electric Fields, who I'd never heard of before but seem to have a cool, unique vibe of Aboriginal-inspired ethnic synth stuff. Past that, Sheppard is probably the biggest name (and is generally considered to be the favourite based on just the seven artists we know so far), and could get me on board depending on what they send: their big hit Geronimo is a little too safe and repetitive for me, but I think a song like Edge of the Night would be a good choice.

In terms of the other five, Aydan Calafiore gives off some fairly middle-of-the-road boyband pop vibes, though could maybe be boosted by the right song; Courtney Act is a fun artist to include but has ended up with a fairly bland choice here, essentially rehashing Jessica Mauboy's entry this year but with some more synths; Kate-Miller Heidke has a nice voice but most stuff I'm finding from her backlog is forgettable midtempo mush; Leea Nanos could have potential, and I'm interested to see why she was chosen as the wildcard, but I can't find too much from her, and the lack of experience could hurt; and Mark Vincent has some lovely operatic vocals, but tends to perform stuff that can be described as "Norway 2010 at Eurovision, but somehow much blander".

Obviously, a lot of this can change – we still don't know any of the songs (except one) or their stagings, and there are three more artist reveals to come. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised by someone I'm not so interested in at the moment. But for now... Electric Fields or Sheppard, please!

Listened to the contestants, but they all don't give me much, but I'll have to wait untill the songs come out. Sometimes I don't like certain singers, but the songs can change my opinion completely, so I will be patient with my opinion!

I’m just not a very big fan of Courtney’s song unfortunately - I doubt that the juries will go for it :?
Her personality and appearance on stage might help her gaining some votes though

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I was really excited about this national final but tbh, but I'm rather unimpressed.

They should have directly nominated Sheppard, in my opinion. Apparently, they couldn't get a "bigger name" when it comes to reputation in Europe.

Courtney Act would have been interesting but sadly, her song "Fight For Love" sounds like a sure non-qualifier (song-wise, not talking about the hype when it comes to Australia, or her upcoming performance)

I certainly would've preferred to see artists from a wider pool of genres (there are a lot of midtempo pop singers in the lineup right now), but I think it's a bit early to be disappointed.

We only have one song out of ten, and I'm not sure the lack of big names is really an issue; isn't pretty much every Eurovision winner a largely unknown artist nowadays? I think the last time we saw a relatively popular artist winning the contest was Dima Bilan in 2008. That's going to be 11 years ago by the time we hit next year's contest, with every winner in that timespan since being a relative unknown who's surprised with a good song and performance.

Not that I'm saying we've got a clear winner here or anything; just that it's a bit silly to rule out an NF for not being packed full of big names, especially when we haven't heard the songs yet.

Don't get me wrong. The songs can still be good (Courtney Act' s entry is pretty much average, though) but Australia was hyping it so much. SBS wanted to go "bigger and bigger" (they also said this after Guy Sebastian's participation).
I'm just unimpressed by the artists announced so far. I expected a wider range of artists - popularity and genre wise.

Courtney’s song needs a revamp because right now it’s quite fussy to listen to

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

What is so wrong with Courtneys song? It is rather "Schlagertastic" as I like to call it, very schlager-pop, not too unlike Saara Aalto last year to be fair and it did qualify. Absolutely not something that would win Eurovision, but it is a little fun, catchy, with a nice message that she will do her everything to promote the hell out of the song. I think that this might be the song the juries would like the least of the Australian songs if chosen (that it is seemed worse than "Don't Come Easy" is a joke, but oh well..), but still enough to get a middle placement and some decent amount of points from western countries. And from my understanding she is rather popular in Australia, so I wouldn't be shocked if she were to win it all and sent to ESC. Sure the song COULD have been better, but hey, I've had a hunch that Courtney would do ESC rather soon so...maybe it is in Tel Aviv '19.
