I hope that no one noticed that I secretly changed my score from 7 to 12

Thinking about staging ideas for all the criticism she’s faced. It’s probably too ambitious but it would be absolutely epic if Kate were to be hoisted into the air with ropes at the climax of the song. If done tastefully, she could really drive home that message of Zero Gravity while being suspended in the air. That would be something we never saw before at Eurovision and silence the haters. Bold, daring and maximum impact!

I think the key is to try to create the illusion of being suspended/flying without resorting to a big dress, which clearly is a very tired cliché for some very unforgiving people.

I think this idea sounds great, but would Kate be comfortable doing it is the question then?

This is somehow what I thought Zlata should have done

Tumblr, mostly.
Creating the illusion that Kate is flying in the air will be Australia's biggest challenge, but they should be able to afford the necessary stage props (or augmented reality) if needed. KAN will do LEDs, so that should help a bit as well (though relying on LEDs alone is lazy and stupid, friendly reminder of 2017's crappy staging). I wouldn't mind if Aus staged KMH like 'Immortality'.

(KMH has the added benefit that she can actually sing.)

But yeah, I agree that the big problem here is *the act*. "Zero Gravity" is a good composition, that's why it got jury votes in the tally...but the way it was staged, man, talk about every cliché from the Eurovision Performance Manual. Oh a growth dress. It's only like, what... the fifth time we've seen *this specific* act at Eurovision? Weirdly enough, the OTT act makes "Zero Gravity" SO BORING to me. It's stale, especially on the heels of Elina Nechayeva, who had a better song AND a better dress.

The song just sounds like a vocal exercise

So a strange thought came to me this evening - I realised that I had only ever watched the live performances of Zero Gravity up until now and hadn't listened to the studio cut at all. So I took a little listen tonight, and I was quite surprised.

The song isn't as much of a car crash as I previously thought and has some nice touches in the composition. But I have to say that the "Ze-he-he-he-he-he-he-he-he-he-ro" sections really grate on me more and more every time I hear them! It just sounds really twee and cheesy!

I honestly think that if the live performance can be made more accessible (as right now, Kate comes off as cold and the whole atmosphere and mood is just really off-putting in my opinion) perhaps it could find a way out of the bottom reaches of my ranking. But since I judge the songs on the overall live package I won't be able to get behind Australia at all if the ugly staging from the NF remains ...

Hopefully we get to see Kazakhstan or Kosovo or something next year!

I'm reading you not mentioning Kurdistan or Katar [sic] as a shade against dragvision

As much as I want to praise songs that take huge risks, this awkward blend of Kate Bush and Bjork simply does not come together for me. Even after the beat kicks in, the operatic falsetto feels extremely disconnected from the piece. There isn't anything to really latch onto throughout this song.

Yeah, that is some ugly, pretentious staging indeed! Seeing the matching audience members in the video was pretty entertaining, though!

I think cheesy is one of those words that people use in a very liberal way but it's really a very subjective term, it's all about what some think is cool or not. And not everyone even cares about coolness. In Eurovision or chart terms these days this song wouldn't be considered basic. You could argue that some 'banger' that others prefer is a lot more simple and cheesy. And to say that that kind of song isn't cheesy and this is doesn't make any objective sense. The staging could be different but I'm not letting that affect my opinion on the song. And people seem to be having a problem with what I called the operatic section. If looked at as an operatic vocal it would no doubt be heavily criticised because it isn't that, it's hinting at that style but is smoothed over enough to fit into the song's sound. It's nothing like that singer who switched vocal ranges going eventually into a full operatic vocal.

This is actually one of the better songs revealed so far. I like it quite much.
