The more I reflect on the Australian selection, two strong opinions emerge for me:

1) KMH is fielding an interesting song, which she can sing very well... and with a total rethink of the staging will likely qualify no problem and do well overall.

2) Australia missed out on a strong chance at a win in not selecting Electric Fields and I hope SO MUCH this isn’t the last we hear from them... 2020... or whatever?

I love hos despite the hatred coming from certain quarters, this and Italy are the only songs where 12 points is it's highest score (for the moment). If it can muster enough lovers, then the haters will be irrelevant in May.

Oh I just watched the NF performance. This is tragic in so many ways. It's a very cheap, annoying, messy, copycat-ish circus act. And that's actually the most friendly thing I can say about it. I really have no positive words for this mess. And I honestly have to downgrade it from 4 to 0 points after seeing the NF performance. This doesn't deserve a single point, I'm very sorry for :au: being represented by this.

I bet that Australia will do everything with their staging this year to make it as right as possible as Paul Clarke sounds rather desperate to make a good placement in the end.

Also apparently they had many other concepts for Jessica's staging last year, but all of them were rejected because some other countries were doing it - this sounds terrible amateurish from the Australian delegation to me
So I'm not sure that the staging that they ended up with even were their plan C or D lol

I still believe that the song itself is good but they need to fix the terrible staging to have a decent result on televoting. If they keep that staging then sorry Australia but you don't deserve to be in the final! Of course juries may save it but still on televoting it will have no luck with that staging!

When out of the three favourites you love two, but the one you couldn't care less about wins it all.....xthink

It's definitely not bad, it is just not good either. It doesn't feel authentic but gimmicky for the sake of being gimmicky.
For some reason this song feels more like it's trying to cater to the mainstream than Electric Fields or even Sheppard does. These acts at least both felt authentic in their performance. This just feels like a cry for attention. Like everything in this act just feels like a plan of a group of executives with a checklist of things you need to win or stand out at Eurovision, rather than considering whether the package in total is the best.

But this is just my opinion. This will probably end up in the middle of my final top somewhere, like Australia always does

Reminds me of an operatic aria at times (by Mozart, Magic Flute), not bad at all really. Definitely well above the normal Eurovision standard.

Really amazing reaction from Alesia Michelle, who is normally extremely critical of most entries :

So there's a bland reaction to Kate's song, with many people claiming it's too similar to previous entries. No seriously, I can see the resemblance with Elina last year but it's still a very different song. And sure there's big dresses, but Kate doesn't do any special effects with her dress like Elina. And I can see find stuff that's been done before with every entry last year:

- Netta, sure I've seen a bigger woman sing a song with an empowering message before. Song's different but it's still generic too
- Eleni, yes I've seen plenty times before a dancing woman with backing vocals and back up dancers. Not to mention the song
- Austria - seen and heard it all before
- Germany - seen and heart it all thousands times before

I hate Alesia Michelle, she is smug and conceit. She is the only Eurovision youtuber I do not watch anymore since 2017

After yesterday's underwhelming reaction I've got back to loving it again, what a journey

It does seem that a lot of people have calmed down down after yesterday's nonsense and realised that Zero Gravity isn't the worst song in human history.

Hilarious and tragic at the same time, but in a good way. Great risk, I think this might even steal a win. Eurovision in Sydney? That would be crazy.

I really love it :D It instantly stood out on the very first listening. Even though it's not like we didn't see any of this before, it still sounds original and fresh. This is the type of song that one either loves or hates and I am in the first group :D Best Australian entry ever.

12 points.

Thinking about staging ideas for all the criticism she’s faced. It’s probably too ambitious but it would be absolutely epic if Kate were to be hoisted into the air with ropes at the climax of the song. If done tastefully, she could really drive home that message of Zero Gravity while being suspended in the air. That would be something we never saw before at Eurovision and silence the haters. Bold, daring and maximum impact!

I think the key is to try to create the illusion of being suspended/flying without resorting to a big dress, which clearly is a very tired cliché for some very unforgiving people.

So I think it is a strong sign that Kate won the jury and televote considering that the field was so strong in their NF. Main question for me is could Electric Fields have won it if they had better staging? Sure better staging improves your chances but you know what I mean
