I'm at best lukewarm for this entry as a whole which considering my quite noticeable love of all things kitsch and weird, it's not the best sign. I'll start by saying the performance is fabulous and made me smile. I know some people don't like this kind of spectacle at Eurovision, with many feeling that this kind of crazy pomp damages the reputation of our contest, but I enjoy fun and memorable performances just as much as I appreciate a simple emotional performance. I think my problem with Zero Gravity is that I just find the composition quite dull. It's not like La Forza which was kitsch but trying to go in a serious direction. This song is presenting itself as that crazy pop-opera song that's everyone's favourite guilty pleasure, except I think it falls kind of flat. I was the biggest supporter of Opera Skaala's Eurovision attempt a few years ago and I adored Cezar. They were kitsch and took it to Mars with everything, the songs and performances. Kate has a tremendous voice and that's the main selling point here I think. I find the beat that comes in weak. Overall it's a song that sparsely scatters everything and it's disorientating to listen to, and not in a "holy gosh, I can't believe that just happened, amaaaazing" kind of way. It doesn't get me pumped.
I'm glad though Australia opted for this and not for Sheppard. At the very least it's a different flavour from what you've been giving us. With time maybe this will grow on me. I'll give it a kind 5 in the poll for now. The performance is great and it will be fun to see it at Eurovision. I hope the song gets worked on a little to give it some more flavour.
