I really hope they are not coming back. It was a one-off. End of. Get one of the European countries that keeps talking about entering in instead. If you want it to include Australia and other non-European countries, make a new competition called "Worldvision" or similar and do that.

Personally I think Australia should be given the offer of paying more to join the Big 5, or paying less to be part of the semis. If the same offer is made to Russia too, that seems fair.

I don't think that the Aussies will accept the offer to be in the Big 5, because could be rude gesture specially for and and many European people!!

Semis for them could be a fair thing.

If the rules still stipulate that there'll be a maximum of 26 countries in the final, then I'd imagine that we'd be in the semis. Of course, it still isn't confirmed that we're the 41st yet, likely though it may seem.

To me, the unexpected news would be that you're not the 41st country. I'm pretty sure you're in.
Regarding the semis, I don't know what they'll do to you. On one hand, being pre-qualified would be an unjustified privilege since you're not part of the Big 5, but at least you can't be blamed for taking the place of someone else in the semi. I'm looking forward to knowing how it'll work.

I really liked the Australian entry and I wouldn't mind having more of this style in the contest. So if Australia is in I'm hoping for a good song.

But we have 39 countries confirmed so far (SWE, FIN, BEL, DAN, EST, LAT, IRL, NOR, GER,FRA, NED, LIT, ISL, SUI, BLR,CZE,GRE, MAL, UK, CYP, AZB,AUT, ESP, SLO, GEO, ITA, BUL, UKR, ISR, ALB, SAN, MAZ, ARM, RUS, MON, POL, MOL, HUN, SRB) that leaves 2 countries to fill the "magical" "Jan-Ola-Sand-41-Number". I'm pretty sure the 40th will be Romania and then there still is a chance for CRO or BiH. Perhaps even one of the countries who already said, they would not participate could have changed their mind. We have seen this in the past. So, Australia is just ONE out of multiple possibilities....

There are currently 41 countries confirmed. The number may go up if other countries join. But at this point in time (well when he said it) there were 41.

There will be a maximum of 26 countries in the final (big 5, Sweden, 10 from each semi final), unless they make an exception and add another country to the final for whatever reason

I didn't know they had stated we'd be back to 26 countries in the final. That's interesting as far as Australia is concerned.

Guy Sebastian would be ONE hard act to follow...

I would love to see Australia compete again - Guy Sebastian was a very strong debut artist into Eurovision for Australia in 2015 - we sent the best the first time - SAMANTHA JADE is also vocally blessed with a pure voice and great stage presence and with the right song could represent Australia respectfully in 2016!

I do not think for a moment Australia could ever win it - but for us Aussies it was just so much fun seeing us on the stage with all the other artists/songs as we do love watching Eurovision every year - the tv ratings prove it
