How surprising

EBU need to **** off and just make them permanent cause you know that's exactly what they want. This whole "special guest," "not sure about beyond this year" bullshit is an insult to people's intelligence.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016

I was very happy about Australia joining last year. I argued against the critics.... This year I am not sure what to think. I really did think that Australia's participation last year was to be a once-in-a-lifetime. I found that very refreshing - having a totally new non-european country joining in. I would love to see that happen more often. But Australia again? I dont know.... I really dont know....
Having said that: I love Australia, I loved their entry this year - and I am sure I will immensely enjoy them in Stockholm as well...

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016

Disappointing. I thought there was no way Australia would be back this year, after the EBU specifically said they were a one off and then chose not to alter their rules to accommodate them.

It's not so much that the EBU are allowing non-active EBU members to enter, it's the fact that they are making things up as they go along. The motivation is more about global branding than the integrity of the competition.

I totally agree I can very well see a future with 3 semifinals, lees european entries, and less viewers as to day because half of the viewers are at sleep

Less viewers per country, perhaps, but I don't see why having inconvenient times in some participating countries would make it harder for those who are already a part of the contest. Yes, there might not be as many Aussies watching it live due to our 5AM starts, but that fact isn't suddenly going to make there be less viewers in any other country.

No surprise that Australia got confirmed, just confirmation that EBU are pathological-, west/anglo-centric biased, money hungry hypocrite, -liars

Anyways, it is what it is, no surprise. Seriously thinking about handing in my fan card though, this is no longer a celebration of European diversity or a European contest :(

Regardless, I will continue see this as a SONG contest and therefor review the Australian equally as all others...

In fairness, Australia are more European than a lot of the countries actually in Europe. I have no problem with this exception, and chances are they will put in loads of effort to do well, and not just make up the numbers like some countries.

How could Australia possibly be more European than actual European countries?
