Yes I have and I got confused by some of the wording.
The most confusing part is this one:
“We are excited by the fact that Eurovision’s appeal is crossing continental borders to Asian countries. SBS Australia has been broadcasting Eurovision for over 30 years, so we feel they are a perfect partner to build an alliance of networks with, and give Asian songwriters and artists the opportunity to perform on the Eurovision stage.“
So is this going to be a standalone project or a third semifinal for Eurovision?
And there is no mention of the ABU so we can't be sure if there is a connection to the upcoming ABU song contest.
So until further news get released people will wonder what Dr. Frank-Dieter Freiling meant by Asian artist and songwriters on the Eurovision stage.

I think, it will not be connected to Eurovision, at the moment.
But in the near future, who knows ?
Also, it has nothing to do with ABU festival.
ABU is a partner of EBU, why would EBU do something like this ?

Well according to Sietse Bakker:
The SBS contest winner going to Eurovision is a possibility (not a direct transliteration)
He talks about the SBS contest around the 2:30 minute mark.

^interesting interview! :) towards the end of the interview she mentioned about where they would draw the line of participating countries and it would probably be india and moving towards the pacific.... so i guess that means, no middle eastern countries will participate?

tbh i'm ok if it is less than 10 countries participating for the first edition. the concept is unlike anything asia has ever seen before and the logistical preparation for this would've been overwhelming. hopefully, after 2017, we can start to follow the original contest more by having semifinals and whatnot.

looking forward for more updates!

Well during the ABU meeting South Korea pushed for an Asian-Eurovision:

Also SBS was present at the meeting.

"Both SBS and the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union are currently in the process of creating song contests for Asia."

so it's true... they're both making their own asiavision. lol awkward. :D but i'm not complaining... two is better than one.

btw, it's kinda annoying that everytime i googled asiavision and the results are some indian award show. :( i don't think the new song contests can use the same name due to copyright.

I'm not sure.
But After looking at the people who were present at the meeting int looks like it's going to end up with a single competition:

The people that made me think this were:
Paul Clarke head of Blink TV and Australia HoD(in charge of the SBS contest) and Ms Qiong Gan representative of Hunan TV (co-partner of the ABU contest).
Why would they be at the same meeting and talk to each other if they are organising two different contests ?
And also Ms Irene Jungeun Kim(Korea) when talking about an Asian Eurovision didn't use plurals so they were probably discussing about a single contest.
Like I said before I hope they get it right this time so we don't have change the rules of Eurovision to accommodate more Asian countries.

I also hope it will be one contest.
And i would also be positive to participation of 3 or 5 Asian countries to the Eurovision Song Contest.
But, at the beginning it should be only the winner.

i found this podcast but haven't found time to listen to it yet. can y'all have a listen? perhaps he's disclosing the meeting outcomes with ABU... https://www.mediaweek.com.au/paul-clarke-australian-eurovision-producer/

Well he didn't talk about the meeting specifically but:
He did talk about recently meeting a Chinese media person and from the sound of it that person was from Hunan TV. He also had meetings with Koreans and Japanese people and when he was talking about the contest he described Australia as a bridge between the EBU and Asia.
So seeing how he had a meeting with Hunan TV about organising a competition together it looks like its going to be single contest and not two separate ones.
And meeting are still underway in order to adapt the Eurovision concept to the Asian market.

Well here is a new interview about the contest:
Notes from the video:
-There not aiming for a big contest from the very start (thank god) there planning to start with around 12 countries.
-Australia if invited will participate in both contests.
Also about last week interview here are more details:

The same things as I pointed out with the addition of Mongolia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
So from the looks of it here are the countries that have expressed some interest in the contest (either by atending meetings related to it or by talking in suport of it):

damn, the east asians are really enthusiastic about this! i hope malaysia will be in one of the remaining few participation slots. probably a few SEA countries as well so that we can get some neighbour votes lol.

i came across an article where SBS is considering locations for the new contest and one of the criteria is that it will be gay-friendly. i'm ok with that but i hope the contest will not turn into a full-on gay parade... it will put off a lot of asian countries from participating, i'm sure.

Yeah I hope so too while I have nothing against gay people I do feel that DR and ORF pushed the LGBT stuff way too hard that I genuinely felt left out (and it wasn't just me). I just hope SBS won't do the same thing because Asia is not as gay-friendly as Europe.

Also sorry for the late question:
But can you please post a link to the article I don't know how to find it?

I would love to watch two contests each year xheat. Maybe the winner could be a direct qualifier like :au: 2015 while the 2nd and 3rd place each compete in one of the ESC semi-Finals?
