It's February, and Asiavision was supposed to be held on March.
No news?
What happened again?

Eurovision Asia is confirmed YAY (so excited to see South Korea shred this contest in pieces and becoming the new Swedish successful Eurovision Country for Asia)

Does this count as announcing Kazakhstan?

What if they didn't? South Korean songs are mostly annoying that I wouldn't bear a single "K-pop group entry"... :?

Not in the ESC yet.

If this contest ever takes place, I'm confident South Koreans will slay because K-pop music enjoys quite some success worldwide (like Japan and their J-pop), so in an Asian-centered contest they'll certainly be popular. It's not unusual for Korean groups to tour abroad in the region (China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines...).

By the way, K-pop - like European pop - just means popular music, it doesn't refer to a specific style: they could send club bangers, vocal ballads, avant-garde pop, midtempo songs... It would be up to them. :) To me, their asset is that they know about modernity, catchiness and creativity.

I'm sure Eurovision Asia would be worth watching for the visuals too, Asians are much more into elaborate presentations than we are.

Oh, I was so conviced that it was only referring to bands, though I don't know any singers nor popular songs, which aren't coming from S.Korean groups tbh.

My mistake, sorry!

No, no, that's okay! :) You were right in assuming most Korean acts are groups (that's their cup of tea), but there are also solo artists. Musically, it depends on what labels want their groups to be specialised in: energetic electro-pop "badass" music, "cutesiness" (cute and innocent music), vocal-centered songs, "sexy" acts, and so on...

Powerful Korean acts (ballads) are definitely the kind of song that they should compete with.

In Malaysia, every end of the year, we have our annual Champion of Songs event, Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) which is equivalent to Melodifestivalen, only that the winner of the competition do not get to represent Malaysia in any Asian song contest whatsoever..

This year, I hope the format changes, and the winner gets to represent Malaysia..

My top contender for this year's AJL:

Siti Nordiana & Jaclyn Victor - "Nisan Cinta"
Hael Husaini - "Jampi"
Haqiem Rusli - "Tergantung Sepi"

That's what I think will be very interesting too. Personally, I don't know much about music from most Asian countries, so it'll be a good means for me to discover new music scenes. :) If it lives up to expectations in terms of production, etc. this upcoming contest will become a very important appointment for me every year. I hope they won't set dates in May like Eurovision, ideally it would be in winter, so that us fans would have both contests to cover the whole year

I pray that it doesn't look anything like Turkvision: if the hosts bring their A-game technology-wise, it's gonna be a delight to watch. I don't want a poor stage or sound system.

The EBU is organizing the competition. I'm sure they will want the hosts to have inspiration from Eurovision and to host it more or less in the same way.

I think something the EBU will possibly do is invite the winner of Eurovision Asia to take part as an automatic finalist in the following Eurovision. Or at minimun the winner of Eurovision will perform on Eurovision Asia and vice-versa as an interval act, so they can promote both contests in both continents
