Russian media is reporting that the Russian bronze medal winner Alexander Krushelnitskiy in mixed curling has tested positive for meldonium. Apparently a drug he was using before it got banned in 2016, but he hasn't used it since, according to his coach. But if this news report is true, then Norway might get another bronze medal.
Curling was probably the sport I least expected someone to be caught doing drugs tho...
Day 9:
Alpine skiing (men's giant slalom): After the first run, Henrik Kristoffersen seemed to be too far behind to get anything out of this day, and our hope was Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen, who was 3rd. Hirscher seemed to be cruising towards another gold. But then Kristoffersen did a great second run, and actually ended up taking the silver medal.
Nestvold-Haugen dropped to 8th, and Hirscher was in a league of his own today. Also half a bronze medal for Norway, as Alexis Pinturault's mom is Norwegian (yes, I know it won't count).
This was on the quiz, would Kristoffersen win? Altho there was a chance, I thought Hirscher or Pinturault would get it, and guessed no, so a point for me here.
Biathlon (men's mass start): Exciting until the end. The Norwegians messed up a bit on the 3rd shooting, but in the end, Emil Hegle Svendsen was fighting for the bronze. Tarjei Bø and Erlend Bjøntegaard also in the top, but not enough to fight for the medals. Emil did the job tho, beating the Germans Lesser and Doll, and won the bronze.
Also on the quiz, would Norway win? I took a risk here, thought it would be between J.T. Bø and Fourcade, and guessed yes. No gold for Norway, and no point for me.
Cross-country skiing (men's 4x10 km relay): I actually fell asleep for a while during this, but when I woke up again, I saw that Norway had won, so another gold for Norway.
This was also on the quiz, who would do the last leg for Norway? Despite doing this quiz before the Olympics had even started, this one seemed rather easy, I was sure it would be Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, and got a point on that.
Freestyle skiing (men's aerials and men's slopestyle): I know nothing about the aerials competition, and didn't see it either, so can't really comment on this. No Norwegians either. I did however watch the slopestyle competition. We had 2 guys in the final, Ferdinand Dahl and Øystein Bråten. Bråten had a great first run, scoring 95 points, and that ended up being good enough to win the gold.
Dahl also had some great jumps in his second run, but was rather poor on the rails, and since the rails are important as well, he got a rather low score, and ended 8th. Had he performed well on the rails, I'm sure he would have gotten a medal as well, but no.
Speed skating (women's 500 m): The Norwegians ended 18th and 27th, so not a good day for us here. Not a Dutch gold, not even a Dutch medal.
Day 9: 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze; and first in the medal table.
