Whoa that biathlon race though ... xheat
I'm a little salty that we were unlucky twice ... Schempp "losing" to Fourcade, Lesser "losing" to Svendsen.

Russian media is reporting that the Russian bronze medal winner Alexander Krushelnitskiy in mixed curling has tested positive for meldonium. Apparently a drug he was using before it got banned in 2016, but he hasn't used it since, according to his coach. But if this news report is true, then Norway might get another bronze medal. Curling was probably the sport I least expected someone to be caught doing drugs tho...

Day 9:
Alpine skiing (men's giant slalom): After the first run, Henrik Kristoffersen seemed to be too far behind to get anything out of this day, and our hope was Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen, who was 3rd. Hirscher seemed to be cruising towards another gold. But then Kristoffersen did a great second run, and actually ended up taking the silver medal. :D Nestvold-Haugen dropped to 8th, and Hirscher was in a league of his own today. Also half a bronze medal for Norway, as Alexis Pinturault's mom is Norwegian (yes, I know it won't count).
This was on the quiz, would Kristoffersen win? Altho there was a chance, I thought Hirscher or Pinturault would get it, and guessed no, so a point for me here.

Biathlon (men's mass start): Exciting until the end. The Norwegians messed up a bit on the 3rd shooting, but in the end, Emil Hegle Svendsen was fighting for the bronze. Tarjei Bø and Erlend Bjøntegaard also in the top, but not enough to fight for the medals. Emil did the job tho, beating the Germans Lesser and Doll, and won the bronze. :D
Also on the quiz, would Norway win? I took a risk here, thought it would be between J.T. Bø and Fourcade, and guessed yes. No gold for Norway, and no point for me.

Cross-country skiing (men's 4x10 km relay): I actually fell asleep for a while during this, but when I woke up again, I saw that Norway had won, so another gold for Norway. :)
This was also on the quiz, who would do the last leg for Norway? Despite doing this quiz before the Olympics had even started, this one seemed rather easy, I was sure it would be Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, and got a point on that. :)

Freestyle skiing (men's aerials and men's slopestyle): I know nothing about the aerials competition, and didn't see it either, so can't really comment on this. No Norwegians either. I did however watch the slopestyle competition. We had 2 guys in the final, Ferdinand Dahl and Øystein Bråten. Bråten had a great first run, scoring 95 points, and that ended up being good enough to win the gold. :D Dahl also had some great jumps in his second run, but was rather poor on the rails, and since the rails are important as well, he got a rather low score, and ended 8th. Had he performed well on the rails, I'm sure he would have gotten a medal as well, but no.

Speed skating (women's 500 m): The Norwegians ended 18th and 27th, so not a good day for us here. Not a Dutch gold, not even a Dutch medal.

Day 9: 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze; and first in the medal table. :D

Canada also got a medal in men's ski slopestyle, a bronze thanks to Alex Beaulieu-Marchand!

What a shame Simon Schempp missed the golden medal in biathlon mass starts event very very barely...if the track was only 10 metres longer Schempp would have won the final sprint against Fourcarde as he had the higher pace at the end... Anyway, its wonderful how greatly our male biathletes are performing in Pyeong Chang... the whole season we only had two 3rd places in the individual male events and in this olympics we already have the full set by three different athletes (gold for Peiffer, silver for Schempp and bronze for Doll. Today we had three athletes in the Top 5... I think we have realistic gold chances in the team events...bring it on!

Talking about Gold... I think we didnt win a gold for three days now and therefore lost the lead in the medal table.
Tomorrow we have good chances to win our 10th gold in the two-man bob. Moreover, tomorrow an event Ive been lookin forward a long time finally takes place...Ski jumping team event! xheat Good memories of last olympics in Sotchi when we won the gold...it will be hard to repeat this cause the Norwegian team is flawless and perfect. Theyve got four world-class jumpers and this should pay out for them. We probably fight for Silver against Poland.

Prediction for tomorrow: 1 gold,1 silver

I would add another medal in bobsleigh (probably a bronze) to your prediction. Other than that I completely agree with what you said.

Finally a medal for :lv: in these Olympics! xyaay Bravo team Melbārdis/Strenga! xbow xcheer And so exciting and close competition in 2-man bobsleigh in general when positions and leaders changed after every run. Congrats :de: and :ca: with gold. :D
The day before start here was a big discussion and many were puzzled why the coach Sandis Prūsis decided to put Jānis Strenga as pusher not Daumants Dreiškens (usual brakeman of Melbārdis' team and also flag bearer at the opening ceremony). But seems he knew what he did. :D

Also really glad for  team in ski jumping. Well deserved victory! xcheer

A :ca: - :de: tie for gold in 2-man bobsleigh, wow! This is Canada's first gold in this event on the men's side since 1998... which coincidentally the Canadian sled tied for gold with the Italians!

Guaranteed at least a silver in women's hockey after our girls demolished the OAR, and of course tonight is the free dance in figure skating, I know Tessa and Scott can grab the gold here!

Not really a great day for me today, as I spent most of the day sick in bed, and there weren't really that much happening in Pyeongchang either that I was interested in, at least not until about 12 CET. But it got better. :)

Day 10:
Bob (two-man): Great battle between several teams, which ended with a shared gold between Canada and Germany. And Latvia only 0.05 seconds behind.

Curling (men's): Another match on the quiz at work, would Italy beat Korea? I guessed no, and Korea won, so a point for me. :D

Ski jumping (men's large hill team): After several very good team competitions in the World Cup lately, this was the big goal for the Norwegians, to win the team event. And they did! After several bronze medals, Norway got their first Olympic team gold in ski jumping ever! :D
This was also on the quiz, would there be a new hill record? And since this came after the individual competition, I figured that nobody would beat the record, and Kobayashi's record wasn't beaten, so another point for me. :)

Speed skating (men's 500 m): If the 100 meter is the main event of the Summer Olympics, then this is probably the main event of the Winter Olympics, and it's not an event Norway has very good traditions in. We have won it before, but the last time was in 1948, so it's been a while. And before the competition, they were saying that there were 15 potential winners here, so it wasn't going to be easy to get a gold here. But Håvard Holmefjord Lorentzen did his best 500 meters ever, and beat Cha Min-kyu by 0.003 seconds (apparently), and set a new Olympic record! :D
This was also on the quiz, would Norway get a medal? I didn't necessarily think it would be a gold, but I thought we had a shot at a medal, and guessed yes. Another point for me. :D 3 out of 3 today. :D

Day 10: 2 gold (not bad on a day with only 3 medal events). ;)

Very happy about our silver medal in the ski jumping team event.

That was the best we could achieve. The Norwegian team didnt make any mistake, impressive performance, well deserved!!. I just thought about how strong we could be if Severin Freund wasn't injured for so long already ... 3 jumpers on top level & Geiger in brillant form. We could have beaten Norway.
Anyway, from a neutral perspective the ski jumping team events become a little boring. It has such a three-class structure. Norway, Germany and Poland are dominating easily so there wasnt even a question about whih teams will win the medals. Then far behind there are the decent nations, namely Austria, Slovenia and Japan who are fighting for the 4th place... then, with another landslide below, are following all the uncompetitive nations.
I remember in Sotchi I was very excited beforehand cause there were 5 nations that were serious fighting for gold or silver at least...and then out of the blue the 6th nation (Japan) sneaked into the medal ranks... This year, everything was decided before. The only exciting fight was the one between us and Poland for the silver medal. What a luck Stoch had one of his worst jumps at a bad moment.
Moreover, around 10 years ago, also Czech, Russia let alone Finand had at least one or two athletes who regularly had Top 20 results..so you could expect something of those teams in team event.. at least contributing some big jumps. These days I wouldnt notice a difference if Czech, Russian and Finnish athletes dont take part in single events cause they are invisible. Well, at this point, I digress from the topic...

We finally won our 10th gold.. it was about time xcrazy Congrats to our bob pilots... I didnt see the race but it must have been exciting as hell considering there are two gold medalists at the end  Congrats to team Canada as well ´

Tomorrow we have chances for 2-3 medals

I hope for another gold medal in Nordic combined, either by Frenzel or Rydzek. After our athletes seemed to refind their good form in ski jumping I think they are the biggest gold contenders... with all due respect to Watabe and the Norwegians.. in this seaosn they benefited a lot from bad ski jumping performances of the Germans.. on the ski trail we are on fire, anyway!

In Biathlon mixed relay we can fight for gold too but I have no idea what nations will be our main contenders. In the only mixed event in this winter it was Norway who won the gold, Italy got the silver and we won bronze. Italy has a balanced team for sure, but actually from what I know about Biathlon France might be the bigger rival, beside Norway. Let's see how it turns out. I wont miss it!!

My optimistic prediction for tomorrow (dont nail me down on this!): 2 gold, 1 bronze (a second medal in NoCo)

The Mixed Relay is going to be a nail-biter for sure. With 5 teams fighting for the medals: Norway, Germany, France, Sweden and Italy. I expect either Norway or Germany to win the gold.

In Biathlon there actually realistic gold chances. Depends on the team nominations, which are not official so far and I haven't heard anything. My guess is that all the 6 ladies will get another race, two in the mixed and four (the best?) in the women's relay. So Dahlmeier probably sits out. Also Roman Rees might make his olympic debut, alongside Lesser/Schempp/Peiffer or Doll.

Anyway. France and Norway "struggle" a little to find two great athletes of each gender (mainly the women) these days. Not ruling them out tho. They have them, they're just not showing it often enough. And then the best team has to compete. Italy is always good for a medal in mixed like 4 years ago and maybe Sweden with their younglings can surprise us after all. So far the theoretical chances, but we all did expect Fourcade and Boe to share the gold medals between each other, so the shootings are up to change everything :D
Let's do not rule out the OAR, Czechia or Ukraine on a great day

EDIT: Simon Schmepp will compete tomorrow. The rest remains a secret. Actually surprising he's going to race all the 6 competitions, after his back injury problems this season

Swedish team in the mixed relay apparently will be: Mona Brorsson, Hanna Öberg, Jesper Nelin and Sebastian Samuelsson.
Norway: Marte Olsbu, Tiril Eckhoff, Emil Hegle Svendsen, Johannes Thingnes Bø.
Don't know about others yet.

So both are definitely in. If Norway is (close to) the top after the womens part it's quite given they'll be grabbing the next gold

It's Hinz, Dahlmeier, Lesser, Peiffer for the mixed relay. On the female side that's probably the best we have right now. Simon Schmepp stated that he would compete though, but maybe the coaches told him its better for his health not to run every race. Dahlmeier maybe deserved a break as well, or she isn't running the womens relay, but that would be an error imo.
